Hi guys,

It seems like a lot of people on this board ask about adderall's effectiveness and how to decrease side effects. I thought I'd make a post asking what helps you accomplish these two things. For me it's a few simple things.

1) Eat a 'basic' diet. This has everything to do with pH levels in the body. I used to have a lot of side effects with adderall but ever since I changed my diet to a more basic pH the side effects literally disappeared and the effectiveness of adderall increased tenfold. The book that helped me is here. (http://www.amazon.com/pH-Miracle-Balance-Reclaim-Health/dp/0446536199/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1241669116&sr=8-1)
If you've had any kind of troubles, especially stomach aches, read that book!

2) Work out. If I 'sweat out' the adderall from my system it helps calm me down and I don't stay up all night.

3) Drink a lot of water. I probably get at least a gallon a day, usually more.

So what helps you guys?

I try to get as much sleep as I can. I take my XR on an empty stomach. When I notice that the dosage isn't lasting as long, I take about 300-500mg of magnesium taurate about 15-30 minutes before my first dose. I stay away from soda and orange juice because of the citric acid. If I start getting anxiety or paranoid I take 200mg of B6 in the middle of the day and that seems to calm it. Amphetamines in general deplete vitamin B so a supplement is necessary.

What side effects were you having prior to changing your diet to this PH DIET?

I agree hydration is very important with Adderall. Also I've noticed its worthless if I don't get a good nights sleep.

I avoid citric food, but will definitely check out the PH book. I have reoccurring stomach issues/heartburn. Thanks!

Before my diet change I was experiencing major stomach cramps and bloating. I went to the doctor several times for this, they eventually diagnosed me with Irritable Bowel Syndrome and put me on some medication for that. I really didn't think thats what I had and I didn't want to be on another medication. So I started doing some research and came across some stuff related to diet and adderall. Once I changed my diet the stomach cramps disappeared. The only time I experience them now is when I eat a lot of acidic food like fruits and dairy.

My Adderall actually works better with a little bit of food. I take my Addy and eat a hardboiled egg right away. About an hour or so later I try to eat a little bit more and that's usually when I see the most benefit.

Also, everything already said here, but I don't really exercise. Does chasing after a crazy 1 year old count??? :p

Yes it does! Between chasing a 1 year old around and picking them up or carrying them, you can consider your gym-time fulfilled.

I have been experimenting with taking magnesium as well as L-Tyrosine supplements, although I can't say that either has helped at all. My problem is that I am really inconsistent with my dosage, I always take it at different times every day.
