I started taking Concerta a few months ago and over time the dose was increased to 54mg, which is what I am currently taking. Well, at the time, I was also taking an antidepressive. First, it was Lexapro and then Wellbutrin. I have since stopped both AD because of side effects and am left only taking Concerta.

While taking Concerta with the AD I felt the Concerta wasn't really working. However, now that I am taking Concerta alone, I feel that the dose may be too high. It is kind of difficult to explain how I feel. Kinda feels like I'm coming down with something...achey in my neck, tired, tired and hot eyes, little disconnected, hyperfocused on nothing. My pulse isn't rapid, but I feel a little awkward in the heart area. Oh, and a little constipated, grumbly tummy~

Do you suppose that my Concerta dose might be too high now that I am not taking any antidepressants? Should I try and wait it out and see if the side effects go away? They are uncomfortable, but not unbearable. I'm just tired of changing my meds and it gets to be a little frustrating, almost to the point that I don't want to take anything anymore. I hate feeling medicated. Also, I worry that I change my meds before I give them enough time to work. But, seriously, I think that if it doesn't make me feel any better now, how will it be different in a week or two or three.

What are other people's symptoms of too high a dose?

Thanks!

Trying to find the right medication can be an awful experience. I went through a period where I was switching from antidepressant to antidepressant and anti-anxiety med to anti-anxiety med, while also trying to get my ritalin dose right. I felt like a lab rat in a "lets see how many side effects one person can have at the same time" experiment.

I am not a doctor, so this is only from my personal experience, but I currently sometimes feel like my eyes burn a little and get dry, and have little aches and pains that I think are the result of my being more tense than normal because of my medication. Methylphenidate can have an effect on your stomach, which I also sometimes have, particularly if I don't eat. I think some of these may have been worse when I first started, although I don't really remember because it was a very long time ago.

If the effects you're describing are at all frightening to you(I'm not sure what you mean by awkward around the heart), or if they're interfering with your life I would talk to your doctor as soon as possible. If they're just annoying, I would still talk to your doctor, and ask how long it will be before you know whether the effects will subside or will always accompany your use of the medication. Is the Concerta still effectively treating your ADHD? Are you able to focus?

Another thing to consider, since you've gone from one antidepressant to another and then to none in the course of a few months, is that these side effects may have some connection to one or both of those medications, or be a consequence of withdrawal(I don't know if either of those drugs is associated with such symptoms).
