Hello,

I might (probably) be bringing up a topic others have discussed before. Was hoping fellow Adderall takers might have some knowledge or opinions to share that could help me however.

So the issue is getting my pipes to work properly. As a quick back story i've been off and on adderall for years so i'm no stranger to it. This last stretch has had my dosage of about 30mg of XR for the past 2 or so years each day in the morning when I arrive at work. I wait until breakfast because it stops my appetite so I have to eat first. I also do not take adderall on weekends as I don't feel the need to medicate myself when I am not at work and don't take more then one dose a day.

Within 30 minutes of ingesting the medication I always have to rush to the restroom. This has been pretty consistent for as long as i've been taking Adderall. Here is the problem however, recently i've become rather constipated on weekends. It's so bad that Mondays tend to be painful as of late. I might have to make several trips to the restroom only to have the abdominal pains still hit me in waves for a period of hours.

I am not used to this. Pain was never a problem in the past. It could be that my system is just getting too used to adderall for regulating my waste management and since I dont take the meds on weekends... well I only go 5 days a week.

I am not sure what to do. The problem has become extremely frustrating and I am sometimes in pain on sundays as result. I am thinking perhaps I should just come off the meds and suffer with the attention issues rather then deal with this any longer. This particular side effect is bad! I have tried increasing my water intake. I have also tried taking spoonfulls of fiber and washing it down with a full glass of water. Doesn't seem to help.

Any suggestions?

Anyone else with this problem?

Should I just stop the meds until my system stabalizes on its own rhythm again?

Thanks for any feedback!

Backed up pipes was a real problem for me with Welbutrin too. It isn't nearly as noticable with Addrall as long as I get enough liquid and fiber. I carry around a container of water and try to empty it twice a day. I have various types of lettuce twice a day as well, along with a lot of whole grain stuff. Even then I have occasional episodes of 'stuckness'. I have had to make myself relax during those times by remembering that forcing the issue will only cause more tension. Without being careful, I could also cause myself more harm than good.

Regular exercise helps quite a bit too, but you need to be even more careful to stay hydrated! I hope this helps.

I tried doing that too, but whenever I start the Adderall again, any rhythm I had is gone. I'm just letting it be for now.

Sounds as though there is something more or something else going on. Maybe a dietition or a doctor can help? It is awful to go through that kind of discomfort!

I've been experiencing severe dry mouth and dehydration in general. I am wondering if that is behind my "clogged pipes". I've noticed the issue, but it hasn't been a big issue for me. I do know I pee about every 5 minutes due to attempt to keep hydrated.

Yeah, that's going around for Adderall patients.

I'm having the same problem. I took a two week break from adderall recently and had a lot of pain and difficulty with constipation during that period. I am starting to wonder if I have developed diverticulitis or irritable bowel. Is that a risk of long-term adderall usage?

I have found that generic senecott and generic ducolax to be gentle enough as to not causing cramps.
Enjoy...Ken

I did not have a problem with constipation while on Adderall but I did have a hard time urinating. I do not have this problem on Ritalin.
