It seems this can't be right, but today when I dropped my script off, my pharmacist came over to let me know that Shire was making a generic adderall xr now. I told him I wanted the brand name, and not Barr, and he said "No, this isn't Barr - it's made by Shire" and then explained to me about the patent thing (which I already knew about from here) and how Shire is wanting to keep....(some number)% of the sales, so they've begun manufacturing their own generic.
My pharmacist is a pretty sharp guy, keeps up to date on things and has always been great about sharing his knowledge with his customers - but I feel hesitant to believe this. I don't seem to be finding any information about this on the web either, I've run out of ideas for search terms.
I suppose I'll find out Friday when I pick up my script. Last month when I had it filled, I knew there was a generic and I requested the brand, and I only had a $10 copay - which is the generic copay. Before that, my script was $20. Same medication, different copay. I'm confused.
Has anyone heard about this?

I keep hearing that Shire is manufacturing Barr's generic, but my generic says Barr on the label. I don't know if I really believe that they are manufacturing it for Barr, or if they are they must be using Barr's recipe because they are definitely different.
What pharmacy do you go to? I picked mine up at Walgreens this last month because Target didn't have any in stock. I prefer Target, but I'd go anywhere to try Shire's generic.
I'm having a really hard time with these generics. I've always responded well to generics in the past so I'm surprised to be having a bad reaction to these.
Shire is producing the generic Adderall XR for the first 6 months or so for Teva (Teva owns Barr). The only difference with the generic XR is the different labeling on the capsules.
After the first 6 months the generic form of Adderall XR will most likely look very different (colors/labeling) due to FDA generic drug regulations. Generics cannot look the same as brand name meds.

Okay, I'm a little confused - so bear with me. So Shire is producing the Barr generic, the one that I'm hearing that some people are having trouble with? I'm just wondering why he said it was Shire, when I said I didn't want Barr. I guess because it is Shire. The Shire and Barr generic are one and the same it sounds like.
Well, I guess I'm going to be trying it come Friday, unless my insurance lets me get the Shire Adderall XR for the brand name copay.

Aww gees. Sorry, I just found all this info on another thread. I usually try to look before posting, to see if something's already been addressed. I'd read that thread before but the part about who was producing the meds didn't even sink in. I was only paying attention to people's results with the meds.
It looks like some folks have done fine with the generic. I'm going to plan on doing fine with it.

Well surprise for me, I went to pick up my script yesterday, and instead of the generic, it was the same Shire Adderall XR that I'd been getting, yet my copay is only $10. Second month in a row that I've been charged the generic copay price. The pharmacist double checked, and sure enough it was correct.
I guess I'll cross the generic bridge when I come to it.

I'm so jealous! I've decided to go back to Shire's or ask to try dex spansules. I hate these generic XR's.
