and know ten times more information than anyone thinks just because you never have the chance to show it and you frequently just seem to lose the concentration to contribute?

Answer to the first question is no. My friend has watched the "curtains close". It's pretty apparent that when folks can see it, I'm already in another place and time.

The answer to the second question is absolutely yes!!

I feel like I'm always in another place and time but I"m still there. When i'm helping a customer, I dont look like I'm there but I still do everything on task. Except for the fact that I'm slow, but I don't feel like I'm slow!

All the time. It's like being twice as smart yet you lack the ability to function like normal human beings.

yup. My dad had no idea how much I could even speak or think until I started emailing him. It was when I was going nuts, but apparently I express myself really well in text.

^^ I'm the same way. I express myself much better in writing. People often tell me that I don't show much emotion in person, not that I seem spacey, but that I seem very calm and indifferent. But they tell me that my emails and IMs always seem very animated and expressive.

I am going crazy in the job that I have now. They hate e-mail and pretty much frown on us putting anything in writing. I think mostly because they are a shady business but it's making me nuts. I need to write stuff. I need to be able to put it down. Read it, and then make it what I want it. I think it has to do with the visual aspect of things. I can't keep track of words that are spoken. There is no tangability to it. You say something and it's gone and you can't go back to it.

It's especially bad when someone needs to tell me a lot of things at once. I have tried writing stuff down, etc but it just doesn't work. I can't focus on so many things and I have a horrible time trying to capture any understanding from auditory information. I'm so easily triggered by auditory input it's crazy. I can hear a word and next thing I know I'm in dream land thinking of something totally off topic and I have missed important stuff that the person has said.

I'm a smart person, but really struggle to express my thoughts verbally. It's like nothing that I say is in english. My line of thought never seems to make sense to anyone else.

Do you write well? If so, have you ever thought about a job/career that involves writing more than speaking or listening?

I often feel like I am not totally there in the verbal realm.
Its like my audio channels do not have enough bandwidth or a signal/noise ratio that is far too low. Behind my ears and my vocal cords there several more levels that never come out.
None of these problems occur in writing.

I have to write things down too. I find it intriguing that your employers discourage it.
