View Full Version : AD to dp by Barr?
DonnaNP 05-16-09, 08:08 PM I picked up my prescription today for Adderall in brand name and noticed that the tablet was different than it usually is. It was ticker, more orange like, and on the back it says dp instead of AD.
I know Barr also makes this drug available in a generic, so I’m not sure if the pharmacy gave me brand name or the generic. They are trying to find why this drug is different because in their bottle they have both kinds of tablets mixed in and none of the other pharmacies know what the deal with dp tablets is. A real mystery!
It’s hard to find out information because Barr was recently bought out by Teva and I’ve wasted enough time researching. My question is does anyone know what the Barr generic look like? Has the manufactures changed the look of the drug? Has the formula changed or does it work differently? I really hope not. L
DonnaNP 05-17-09, 12:17 AM 20 mg
Ok, the reason I asked is because I've heard each MG dose is a different color. My 10MG tabs are blue (generic), which from what I've read here, the name brand 10MG tabs are blue as well.. Something about eliminating confusion, which to me is a good idea.
I've only had generics and from the two pharmacies I've used- those bottles had the generic brand written on the outside of the bottle (Barr), and from the other pharmacy- nothing on the bottle, but the tablet itself said "Core", so I knew it was the Corepharma brand. (blah)
So hopefully someone with more of a grasp on this subject can chime in!

It's definitely not the "typical" Barr generic... Barr generic Adderall tablets have the dosage printed on one side (usually scored in between the two numbers), and on the other side, a trademarked Barr "b" along with an ID number. The pills come in two different colors (blue and orange), and different shapes (circle and oval), but the textual items are the same for each (in that they include text giving the dose in milligrams, along with a pill ID and the Barr "b").
This doesn't necessarily mean that it wasn't made by them, but it's not the typical generic Barr Adderall that most are used to seeing.
lilhotADDmama 05-17-09, 05:59 PM Barr is now owned by Teva. Teva/ Barr makes both Generic and Brand Adderall- My Barr Generic (before Teva bought them) has 10mg on one side and B972 on the other. But the Teva generic and Brand both have 10mg on on side and DP on the other.
The original brand adderall by Shire had AD on them- but since Barr/Teva is now the owner of brand and generic they are exactly the same. In fact I had the pharmacist pull both bottles and they looked exactly the same.

DonnaNP 05-17-09, 07:31 PM Are you saying Barr/Teva makes the brand and generic exactly alike? It doesn't seem fair they we paying more for brand name if so. The brand name is the generic now?
lilhotADDmama 05-18-09, 12:14 PM Unless the pharmacist's is lying- she showed me both Brand and Generic and they were exactly the same- Upon having some old generic and trying the new brand by Teva- they had the same horrible effects on me. If someone on this board has found different shapes/markings please let me know- but so far I have had the same looking for both brand and generic. It's not fair but the pharm told me it's because most places are going to start selling only generic, because insurance is not paying for brand any more. I wish they would stop messing with drugs that are used for things like ADHD, depression, anxiety etc- My doc thinks these drugs shouldn't be made in generic form for this very reason.

DonnaNP 05-18-09, 08:01 PM The Pharmacy called me back today after she had spoken to someone at Barr; they told her as of April they have changed the look of brand name (thicker, with dp instad of AD). I also asked if I can see the generic and it's oval instead of round. I haven't taken it yet, but will tomorrow.
lilhotADDmama 05-18-09, 10:38 PM Both my Generic and Brand are oval- not round- So is the pharmacy wrong? I thought the Brand was round? I am confused.

My son takes the capsule and he has had a very bad reaction to the generic. (20 mg XR) The pharmacy said that the bottles are the same and the manufactures are the same. Well I'm here to say the drug is not the same! He will be back on brand name Adderall XR tomorrow and I will know for sure.
DonnaNP 05-19-09, 12:44 AM Brand is is round, generic is oval. The bottles are both from Barr. Not the XR though, the regular adderall. If your still confused, you can call Barr or ask the pharmacy to call the manufacture for you. You can even call FDA, they're quick with response. I've had a bad reaction to the generics so i'm nervious to try these ones.
DonnaNP 05-19-09, 04:13 PM I don't feel these barr with dp are as effective as the ones with AD. This really makes me mad, sad, scared.
DonnaNP 05-31-09, 05:38 PM I contacted the FDA and this is the response I got; please make a report if you can.
Since Duramed, a subsidiary of Barr, now owned by Teva, holds the
marketing application for Adderall, they can make changes such as color,
size, etc to the brand name Adderall product. Once again, this
information would be submitted to FDA in an annual report.
If you feel you have had ineffective results with a particular product,
we encourage you to submit a MedWatch report to FDA. MedWatch is a
voluntary system of reporting to FDA problems patients' experience with
products we regulate. We view this reporting system as a source for
signaling trends. Should a trend emerge, the FDA will work with the
sponsor of the product to address the problem. Actions may include
changes in the labeling information or product packaging, change in
manufacturing processes, enhanced warnings in the labeling or
communications to health care professionals. In the most serious cases
or where other attempted actions have not been effective, the sponsor
may decide to remove the drug from the market or the drug may be
recalled.
You may report this information, electronically by going to the Internet
voluntary reporting form at http://www.fda.gov/medwatch, click on "How

you may download and complete the form and mail it to the address
provided or fax it to the number on the form.
Your report, along with others, is an important element in our continued
surveillance of the effects of this product, and collectively will
determine the content of its labeling or the future of the product.
pudge72 06-02-09, 09:06 PM I thought I'd post a visual comparison of the different markings on the old brand-name Adderall vs its recent counterpart. The generic form is included as well. Hope someone finds it of use...
