View Full Version : Wellbutrin has been the culprit!

Just wanted to share this incase anyone else is going through the same thing.

I have been taking Adderall for 8mo or so and a majority of my side effects have gone away unless I accidently do not eat enough or take too much. However one really annoying side effect has always persisted. Dry tired eyes. No matter how much water I drink to stay hydrated or mass amounts of eye drops worked. It was getting so bad after work that I would close my eyes on my drive home for a little longer than I should (a long *** blink!), followed by a hour nap just to refresh my eyes. I can't express enough how bad my eyes hurt, so bad. could not keep them open. I got to the point where I thought I just couldn't handle Adderall, plus diminishing effects of Adderall seemed to be occuring like alot of people mention.

For some reason last week I decided to actually take my wellbutrin like I should 150mg in the morn and 150mg in the afternoon. I am lazy and always took it all in the morning. Yeah..i'm dumb.
Huuuuge difference! Could feel the Adderall working again and no tired eyes. I don't typically take Adderall on the weekends, did this weekend without any Wellbutrin and it was amazing. Felt like the first day I took Adderall.

So this really makes me wonder if Wellbutrin is actually counter effective. I mean it helps with my anxiety (to a point) but it really has dulled down the effectiveness of Adderall.

Questions/Theories:

1. What caused the tired eye's (ingrediant in WB)?
2. Does 300mg of WB and 20 mgs Adderall in the morn seem extreme? Sure doesn't to me (plus another 20ms Adderall in the afternoon)

Anyone know of any studies regarding possible negative interactions between the two? I know people have been curious about the same thing I am speaking of.

so your saying taking wellbutrin helped when you took both dosages? and then your saying the adderall on it's own without wellbutrin worked better on the weekends? don't these two statements contradict each other?

I am saying two different things for two different issues ADD and Anxiety.

1.the Adderall worked well on it's own, this weekend for ADD

2. either wellbutrin 150 dosage and 300 worked well to treat anxiety, but taking 300 all at once, plus adderall seemed to have been too much, especially on my eyes. But what I am trying to state/Theorize is why? 300/20 is not too high at all.

3. Taking just adderall this weekend (although i am aware WB is still in my system) was completely different than taking 300mgs AND Adderall. Complete and very noticable difference.

4*Update* Took 150 mgs WB this morning and 20mgs of Adderall..eyes a little tired. Re-affirming something in WB is bothering my eyes or drying my eyes out.

That is what I am saying. Hope that is mroe clear.

yeah and when you stop the wellbutrin for a day the adderall works like it used to right? thats because there is more dopamine available for a few days once you stop wellbutrin. Lower the wellbutrin dosage or start with sr 75mg and see if that helps. I've had the same issue before

Thanks..I plan to speak to my Doctor about that, 300mgs is just too much for me. Agree.

well yeah, I think taking an sr version later in the day may help . That way you get fewer hours of coverage so no sleep interference with the dopamine reuptake benefit. Too bad wellbutrin doesn't help with anxiety though or it would be awesome.
