I've done a fair amount of searching about this, so I apologize if this is a redundant post. I'm BRAND new to Adderall- taking 10mg 2 times daily.
I eased into it a little bit, and the first couple days I didn't take my full dosage.

Yesterday, though, I did take the full amount. 10mg at 8:00am then 10mg at 2:00pm... everything felt normal through the rest of the day, but I wasn't able to fall asleep until between 2-3:00am!!! (usual bedtime is 12:00am) I'm hoping this is just a preliminary function of the drug (being a stimulant) but I'm looking for ways to offset the effects of Adderall before bed.

Is there any validity to the method of taking Vitamin C or other acidic foods/vitamins a couple hours before bedtime to offset the effects?

Any other suggestions like this would be greatly appreciated, as I'm having a very positive daytime experience with the Adderall.

thank you ahead of time :o

I can't comment on the Vitamin C thing as I have heartburn issues and thus do everything I can to *avoid* acidic foods/drinks before bed. That having been said...

When I first started taking Adderall, a friend who had been on it for a while told me to make sure I didn't ignore the "sleep window." Over the first few days, it's hard to notice it, but after a week I knew exactly what he meant. Each night, I hit a point where I feel tired. I take 20mg 2x/day and 10mg 1x/day, and about 4 or 5 hours after taking my last pill, I'm exhausted. The exhaustion only lasts about 30-60 minutes, and then I may know that I should sleep, but I'm not *sleepy.* That 30-60 minute feeling of exhaustion is what my friend meant when he talked about the "sleep window."

What I've learned is that when I feel tired, even if it's long before my preferred bedtime, I need to go to bed. If I don't, I won't be able to sleep until *way* too late. Meanwhile, if I *do* go to bed when the window hits, I tend to fall asleep more quickly and sleep better than I do even when I'm not on Adderall. I wake naturally after 8ish hours and feel *rested.* As someone who has had sleep problems for my entire life, it took me a while to even recognize what a good night's sleep felt like.

So, yeah, it's kind of a statement of the obvious, but the best advice I have is to pay attention to your body and to go to bed as soon as you start to feel tired.

In my experience, if I do not get enough food during the day after taking Adderall at about 8am, I cannot fall asleep until, on average, 4 in the morning (going to bed at around midnight.) On the other hand, if I eat at least twice (more is better,) I am able to fall asleep within 45 minutes. My guess is that it is a metabolism thing. Eating more will raise your metabolism, with the additional result of metabolizing the Adderall more quickly. Again, that is just a guess.

Hey,

I had serious insomnia issues when I first started taking Adderall. The effects are pretty much gone now that I have been on it for about a month! I think you need to just give your body some time to adjust :)

i've been on adderall for a little under a week and i've been having the same issue.
though i wonder if a lot of it depends on your sleeping habits prior to- i've always had a hard time going to sleep and this is making it worse- but only by about two hours.

i'm experimenting with taking it as early as i can in the morning in the hopes it will be worn off by the time i need to sleep. So far I'm at 6:30 am and i'll roll it back to 5 but that's def. my limit!

I have this problem every time I switch stimulants. For me, it only lasts about a week. Everyone is different though, maybe you should give it a little time and see what happens.
