View Full Version : Anxiety?

I'm a junior at a small, liberal arts school in Texas, and recently (in the past year or so) I have developed some sort of social anxiety. It's not very bad, I just get really nervous in certain situations and talking in class, and even worse..giving presentations in class. Last semester I skipped a class I was supposed to give a presentation in cause I felt like I couldn't do it, and it affected my grade.
I've been seeing a counselor at my school and I'm getting much better, I still get nervous, but I don't let it stop me from getting up there and at least trying.
So, my question is, does anyone else out there have this problem? Is there any chance that it's because of my ADD? I've never read anything about ADD and anxiety problems so I have no clue. Also, could my meds (Adderall, 10mg) have anything to do with it? Anybody know?
Just curious. :O)

Anxiety was my first tip off of a more deep seaded problem.

I first discovered I had social anxiety about two years ago, but only recently tied it to ADD. I think social anxiety is a lot easier to control once you're aware of it, but I don't know about ADD. ADD isn't really affecting me negatively, though, so it's not a huge problem.

I think ADD is anxiety. I don't know for sure, but I think ADD is characterized by an overactive mind, which is basically what anxiety is so it's just one form of it. I think it would be common then to have something like social anxiety as well.

I started having anxiety in similar situations but I found this has been brought on by my taking Zoloft.
Before I was diagnosed and before I started taking meds I had LITTLE bouts of anxiety speaking in front of a group that I just worked through like most people.
Some anxiety, I feel, is normal in these situations.
If you freeze up, break out in sweats, sweaty palms, or stuff like that.... this is NOT "normal".

I'm by no means a professional, but I tend to agree with what FB says above. I am officially diagnosed with GAD, and I take Klonopin for it...at least I'm supposed to remember to take it every day, even if I don't feel anxious--which reminds me...need to go take it right NOW....brb.

Ok, I'm back. MAN! Those Walgreen's generic pills are HARD to break w/o a pill splitter!

Anyway, please check out the Anxiety section in these Forums: http://www.addforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&forumid=108

I'm also going to post additional info from some web research to help answer your question. :)

I definatly have some social anxiety. My GF has told me I get red real fast when talking to people. I also feel it when I have to say something in class because I'm afraid of making a mistake. I feel my face heat up and I know I'm changing colors.

I can so relate! Do longer presentations in class makes me nervous, and school gives me anxiety overall, especially near the end of the semester :(.
