There is no "standard" dose for a 65lb 8yo. I am assuming that you are saying 15mg Focalin XR. Is that right. The smallest dose is 10mg. 15mg is a very reasonable dose. The Ritalin, is a booster for the afternoon. Right? That is fairly common, but I wonder why it is not just the standard short acting Focalin.

angie, my best guess would be to discuss your daughter/meds/dosing with a pharmacist.

My 8yr old girl is heavy, 80lbs. Doc started her on Focalin xl 5, 2 weeks later, increased to 10mg. Since the dose increase, she's lost a little weight - 7lbs/4 months. Since she was heavy, the weight loss wasnt a big issue.

How is your daughter doing now?

As stated, please check with your doctor!

Yes, do check. MY 16 year old at 110 pounds was on 15 mg Foclain XR and it was too high. The morning (first part of the release) of 7.5 mg was fine, but when the 2nd part of the release, the other 7.5 mg of the capsule, released about 10 am, it was too much..she would get hyper.

So she went down to 10 mg Focalin XR with a 2.5 tablet 1st thing in the morning, after one-ish she gets a 5 mg booster, anything more wires her up.

As you can see, individuals vary quite a bit!
