I have extreme difficulty sleeping.
I have difficulty settling and getting to sleep, as well as staying asleep.
I may have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and this difficulty sleeping is making my symptoms worse...

Any ideas or tips to help this?
It's interfering with my life a lot...

hi sarey...

lie down.....put a warm wash cloth over your eyes.

....start by relaxing your toes....deep breaths...inhale light, exhale darkness..
then your feet, ankles, shins, thighs, back....each time you think realx my _________
feel the gravity pushing you against the bed...
......when you've relaxed EVERYTHING....your chest arms, face, head....take some deep breath
.....invision yourself sitting on the ocean floor...and put every word you think in a bubble
and watch it float up.

....when you get down to 10 or less bubbles, this is beta conscienceness, or a meditative state....
....if you can hold yourself like that, for 20 minutes, it = 4 hours sleep
but most times, you will just go to sleep.

that's what I do.

I second Suzzanne. As a kid I kind of self-taught myself to do something like this. I would lie in bed and focus first on my feet, then legs, arms and torso, to completely relax one piece at a time from the extremities to my core. No muscle tension in each piece before moving on to the next. It's almost like closing up a building, turning off the lights room-by-room. In that relaxed state, sleep can come a little easier. I tell my kids not to focus on sleeping but to focus on relaxing.

Works for me, too. It's a simple form of self-hypnosis. Just thinking of what it's like to read the scripts for relaxation from the books I have makes me yawn. I hope this works for you. There's lots of stuff different things like that to try.

ok well im going to docs on monday
i have been up for 37 hours with only 3-4 hours time spent sleeping fragmented.
at this point, i wouldnt even mind sedatives.
this has been going on for years but past few months its gotten worse.
sigh again.
wish me luck.
hes quite a crap doctor.

I find a good stiff drink will knock me out and make me very sleepy.
