I get bored, restless, and frustrated after a few months at a new job. NOW at the beginning it was always great! Well I decided to go part-time and accepted a job as a marketing assistant in Real Estate. Was this a big mistake?
I am newly "self diagnosed" with ADHD and my appointment with "the professional" is in a couple of weeks. I am not on any medication(other than 8 to 10 caffine drinks per day and nicotine) but I really need this job and so far I like it but then again it always starts out great!
I know my shortcomings will appear soon and what then...
Wish me luck all!
:(
List your shortcomings so you can see them on paper and then figure out what causes the shortcomings to react
I also am on my 3 rd job this year but it is by my choice on all 3

Well it is my choice also - I have yet to be fired - "knock on wood"
My shortcomings:
Unable to start or complete assignments in a timely fashon - work is full of errors so I have to start all over.
I think it is caused by my lack of focus and the inability to sit for long periods working on the same old thing.
I interupt people in meetings and do annoying things like fidgiting and this is caused becuse I need to keep moving and when I have a thought or idea I blurt it out.
I lose everything or forget where I put it and this is from me being distracted.
I am late becuse I don't plan time well.
Well I could go on but I have been this way since I can remember. My parents said I was always in trouble in school and I dont know why. I hated homework I never planned things... heck I took the wrong books home! It is the story of my life!
well you dont sound any different than the rest of us here so in my oppinion you are perfectly ADD normal
Welcome home

Is there really medication that can help me? People think I am strange because smoking cig's and caffine relax me and I can focus with them. Heck if I drink enough soda before bed and it knocks me out. Coffee makes me drowsy. Is this the same for all of you. Shoot if there is a medication that can help me am am sure it is more healthy than smoking and soda! I could really use help at work and at home.

Yes, there is medication that can help you. If you can't get in to see one doctor call someone else and get an appointment!
Caffeine, though it helps when you first start using it causes massive confusion and probably is amplifying your focus problems rather than helping. That's what happened with me.
There are also herbal supplements you can take that will help in the interim.
Search the forum for and author by the last name of Amen.
He has a site that has this 100 question survey that will point you to a more specific type of ADHD that you have. Then you can look at what supplements and medications are best for your type.
If you can't find it let me know.
Oh, and welcome to the club. Everyone here with ADD could read your post and say... hey! That's me!

Did you look at the herbal supplements he suggests and why they should work?

Yes for a minute I did but I am doing so many things at the same time as usual. I have internet explorer open surfing it and Netscape surfing it and email open on 4 different accounts as well ans I am chatting online. LOL
- I also found out how your diet can effect your ADHD and how it can change effectiveness of medications and so fourth. It seems there is a wealth of info out there!
I agree, find a professional! Meds should help with the hyperactivity and lack of focus. Then you can start working on coping mechanisms (because the meds won't magically take care of every problem). Personally, I find it tough to think much about long-term goals, or try out new coping mechanisms, if I don't have the stabilizing influence of the meds.
Your research methods sound a lot like mine. And to think my last boss thought I couldn't multitask.... ;)

I am always multi-tasking but somehow nothing ever gets done! LOL! Or it is full of mistakes! Now if I am working on something I am interested in - well that is a whole other story! My last job was administrative and reception. I just could not stand to sit at the front desk all day long! I drove me nuts. It was full time and paid great and fairly easy but the staying in one spot was too much. Now I took a part time job as a Marketing Assistant in Real Estate. I really like it becuase I only support 1 broker and he sends me out to do research at the library and to drop keys of to clients and I am always on the go. Now I have started getting into the contract part of things and organizing marketing materials and so far I am still interested so I am doing well. I just know once I lose intrest I will get overwelmed and frustrated once again.
P.S. My boss is ADD and when I told him about me he said he could not beleive it and I thought to myself - well I have only been her a couple weeks.

I had a really bad week and I snaped at my boss! I am starting to get worried about this job and how long I will last there! The new is rapidly wearing off.
