A few years ago when I was with my ex she told me I had ADD symptoms. I went got it checked out and the Psych said I had mild ADD symptoms with depression (along with drinking problems) and recommended wellbutrin. I never really followed up on it though.
3 years later I decided to go back to the psych because things for me have just not improved ( lose stuff, never finish books, unorganized as hell, get bored easily, relationships go to crap, problems at work) even when I make a conscious effort to improve them and it is very aggravating. The psych diagnosed me with ADD but did not think I was depressed and recommended either Vyvanse, Concerta or Strattera.
I have done some research and am wondering if I should ask him about wellbutrin? It seems that it helps with ADD symptoms and there has to be a reason why the psych recommended this a few years ago. I also like the fact that it is not an SSRI (I hear about bad side effects with those). Thanks

You most certainly can ask about wellbutrin.. It works well for some peeps..
it may take a little longer than some of the other more expensive meds like vyanse and concerta or strattera,, wellbutrin isnt a stimulant it was developed originally as an antidepressant that works on dopamine levels...it is more energizing than a lot of antidepressants., however. I am sure it is available as a generic so most medication plans will cover its cost,,
good luck

The generic, Buproprion, is much cheaper than brand name.
At 300 - 450 mg a day, it helps many people with adhd/depression.
But generally not as well as stims. Ask your doc if he thinks your depression is BECAUSE of unresolved adhd. The beauty of stims is that you start to see things happening in a few days. If something unwanted happens, you get over it just as fast.
With Wellb or any other antidepressant you wait weeks for a result, and if it isn't what you want, you wait to get over the side effects. Stratterra is included in that group. Wellb can cause significant memory issues for a few. It took me a month to get mine back. Now where did I leave it?
Now I take 200 - 300 mg of buproprion(SR) and 30 mg Vyvanse. The Wellb is to counter the crash and also extend the stim effect a bit.
Good luck, this is definately a journey...Ken

Thanks for the info. ATM I am taking Vyvanse, have been for a week. Doc told me to try 20mg and then 40mg. I think I need 30 mg cause 20 aint enough and 40 kind of makes me wacked out ( and holy canoly I cannot drink alcohol on this).

absolutely no alcohol...
Vyvanse will increase the alcohols effect on inhibitions many times.
there are people who have one drink on vyvanse that may as well have downed a fifth of "insert your favorite adult beverage here."

DD18 just got moved up to 300 mg Wellbutrin XL yesterday. I specifically requested Wellbutrin because there are a lot of patients who've had problems with Budeprion 300 XL. The time release mechanism is different in the generic so the release is uneven. Pdoc wasn't aware of the issue, but was happy to prescribe Wellbutrin brand. It was about $45 at Target through United Healthcare. Here are a few articles on the subject (I sent these to the pdoc):

Yeah I've heard horror stories about generic Wellbutrin more than any other generic med. I get brand, even if it costs a ton more.

How much more is the brand name than generic? I really want to try it out to see if it helps. Vyvanse has actually been really good for me.

I was on Wellbutrin a couple years back.
MY personal experience with it was awful. It made me mean as hell!
But, it definately doesn't hurt to try something.
If you do decide to go through with taking it, please be cautious of your first 2 weeks on this drug. (That's when I REALLY noticed how mean it was making me.)
Of course, I was on a higher dosage than most and I do think that that played a big role in what it did to me.
Best of luck! ;)
