I read an article in Phychology Today that says the color green, leafy trees, green fields, and open sky relieve some add symptoms the study says age, gender, family, income, geographic region, or severity of diagnosis didn't matter it helped them all greatly .......as well as being in small groups rather than big ( that we already knew) ;) Just thought I would share it see what everyone else thinks about it.

Yeah, my girlfriend has been asking me forever why I loved green. I never had a good answer for her because I didn't know myself. I suppose this is a good enough answer huh?

I am a green lover too, and always adored the many shades of green outdoors. I was tinking just today how good I felt outside while I was looking at the green.

Hmmm, one more reason that ADD folk were happier in the hunter/gatherer days. ;) I know I feel a lot more peaceful in a nice natural setting than in a fluorescent-lit office.

Quite a few years ago, I was looking for a new apartment, and feeling very depressed about events in my life. I still remember walking into one duplex and looking out into a backyard that had trees and grass, and knowing that I just had to live there. I know it sounds silly, but there was something so therapeutic about that view.

Me. too! I miss having real mountains and trees and stuff, living here where the predominant color is brown.

I wanted to paint my room green, then my mom painted the living room green(while I was living there). Obviously that annoyed me to no end. But I moved into my recently deceased grandfathers house (throw in some anxiety from the whole situtation...) and into his room. Baby blue walls. I got used to it and found the room to be soothing to be in, but I did get tired of the color. So I picked out a nice shade of gray, and am really enjoying it. I also havea small spot that is set back where my bed is..I painted that red :) I like the color too, but it is not a very soothing area to look at.

Sometimes I feel an immediate need (like when on vacation) to get to a place where I am surrounded by thick trees . And I love to watch clouds and stormchase- Now I know why.

I love storms too. Think there might be an ADHD link there somewhere? It would make sense.

Thanks Brianne! I now feel totally justified in wanting as many plants as my apartment can hold, and I have always wondered why I wanted some green in every room in the place and what the interior designers would say. Now I don't have to give a fig - it's therapeutic! I can now guiltlessly decorate my next office in green! :D

Green is my favorite color too. :-) I always figured it was the Irish blood... Guess there is more to it than that though. I miss my mountains and forests and all the critters living there. I even miss the badgers, and I'm here to tell you Badgers don't have much in the way of an endearing personality....

"Hello Mr. Badger!"

Badger: *Makes growling agressive noises, that sound like a much bigger animal and proceeds to bite and claw your legs off.*

"ARRRRGH!!!!! AAAIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEE! MEDIC!"

Yep, a badger is an animal with little or no sense of humor, but at least you always know where you stand with them. ;-)

Besides, they don't bother anyone. At least not anyone smart enough to avoid badger dens.

I painted my bedroom green and it is very restful now.

Maybe I'll try that with the Badgers and they won't be so D@%# testy all the time. ;-) Of course, I haven't seen any here in Virginia yet...

I have seen weasels, otters, foxes, raccoons, hares, deer, and all sorts of other local fauna... No badgers yet though, I wonder if they have them here? No bears yet either, and I know they have black bear here. In anycase, otters are the most fun to watch. :-)

It's like a nigth sky full of stars

With the color of the night repaints with the color of hope.

That sounds like an interesting article.I'll have to look it over. Years ago there was a movement within some correctional facilities to use a shade of pink called Baker-Miller Pink. It was supposed to temporarily decrease aggression and reinforce passivity. I recall a friend telling me that it worked but for only short periods. I don't think it caught on but it does show how important colors are to emotion.

Thanks for the post. (btw...my favorite color is green...lol).:)

I am green with envy! My favourite indoor colour is not green but close-turquoise and teal shades, akin to what I love most in nature-water. On thunderstorms and lightening - those of us not under the bed, with our noses glued to the window, if not outside on the porch wanting to catch the the free light show and excitement of thunder in surround sound are more than likely the ADHDers in the family!

Green is my favorate color too mct..............don't know that the pink would work for me if I ever needed to use it I hate Pink! .....I think when I was younger I had too much pink stuff I think because I used to like the color but can't stand it now. I believe the article wasn't in the last issue but the one before that.

Wish I could paint a room in my apt green but I don't think they allow it. Even if they did we will only be here til Jan. I don't know if military housing cares as long as you paint it back white before you leave or not though? hummmm Guess I will find out next year.
