Hey all,

As you can see I am new to the forums, sorry that I am starting with a question.

I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was 17. I was pretty sure I had it all my life. I was always just labled as 'naughty' and a 'bad influence' at school. But when I finally plucked up the courage to speak to a doctor, it took 10 months to see a specialist. I had hopes of getting a diagnosis before I started college for the second time, so I could really have a crack at my A Level, unlike the year previously where I was kicked out for misbehavior and bad attendance. This never happend, I went to college as planned, ofcourse nothign changed so I was kicked out for bad attendance and misbehavior after 2 months just like the year previously.

But finally I saw a specialist, after 10 minutes she diagnosted me with ADHD. I was started on ritalin right away. 20mg per day for 1 month, then going up to 40mg per day for 6 weeks after. I reporded that I felt no difference, I was told it will take time to feel an effect. Then 60mg per day, and eventually 90mg per day. At this point I was horendously depressed, couldnt sleep, no motivation what so ever etc.

So to correct this I was weened off the Methylphenadate and started on antidepressents. These have no brought me back to where I was before I started the treatment. I keep asking to go back on ADHD meds to sort the problem out I had in the first place. I have been told that I will in a few weeks. Problem is they want me to start on ritalin again, and this really worries me. I don't want to to put myself and family and friends through what happened before. I want to tell the doctors but a part of me says 'they know what they are doing', but another part says 'Just speak your mind, it wont to any harm'.

Has anyone else been through this? And did it ever work out?

My major symtoms are, Icredibly low concentration and attention span (10 mins even with things I enjoy), low motivation, very easily distracted and most annoyingly fidgeting. Have to do more than 1 things at once or I itch all over and its unbearable.

Thanks so much for reading if you got this far,
Jaymie.
