Hi All :)
My name is Shula and I am newly diagnosed with ADHD. Dr. started me on Strattera for a month, the side effects were not tolerable, so we've moved on to Concerta.
I started taking it just a few days ago, started at 36mg, my Dr. said to titrate up if I didn't have any nasty side effects (I think he said something about 72mg being the max dose?)
I feel NO change, no focus, no decreased appetite (not gonna lie, I would love to lose the last 15lbs ;) no noticeable effects to speak of.
When should I see/feel a difference? How long do I give it before I ask him to change my presciption? I got this script for free so I don't mind flushing these down the drain and getting Adderall instead. Anything to just help me focus and make me less irritable!
Any help would be appreciated :)
Thx!

You're on a VERY low dose of concerta (and a very responsible starting dose). Don't jump the gun just yet- titrate up slowly. Small increases of stimulants can have big effects. And yes, 72mg/day is the max dose for adults (though many are on higher- whether or not this is a good idea is up to individual response. My personal feeling is it's not a good idea for many of the folks actually on those doses).

Concerta is a great medication for those who respond to methylphenidate. If you haven't felt anything yet, don't fret. Call your doctor after a week or so and let him/her know that you feel absolutely nothing on the medication and wish to increase your dose slightly. Be patient- finding the right dose takes a while, but it's well worth it. Steamrolling through this process (like most of us are inclined to do) is counterproductive.
