View Full Version : Adderall XR Capsul Half Empty?
I noticed that both adderall XR 5mg and 10mg seem like the capsules are half empty looking. I just thought it was weird because if you hold a 5 next to a 10 they appear to have the same amount of beads only filling half the capsule.
Is this how they all look?
Strange that in a foru, that has 1000's of people taking adderall you can't get 1 response?

mdrider 07-25-09, 07:26 AM O.k., for some reason your post made me stop procrastinating, stop just lurking, and actually register as a user here. :)
I just got diagnosed this past week & was prescribed Adderall XR 10mg. I received a generic, which is apparently manufactured by Shire -- it's in a blue capsule like the brand name Adderall XR. I think the capsule is the same size as the brand name, as far as I can recollect. And yes, it's half full.
I don't know about the 5mg -- haven't seen that. Maybe ask your pharmacist about it? I'm thinking maybe the 5mg has more fillers to make the assembly/manufacturing process easier.

novagal 07-25-09, 10:13 AM Hi kidder, many of us that take adderall don't necessarily have the 5mg and 10mg capsules, I don't happen to, but I do have the 15mg. :)
The 15mg looks like the beads fill half the capsule. As far as the 5mg and 10mg looking the same size and half full, it's likely that the 5's capsule is actually a bit smaller so it looks like the same amount but it isn't. (is that what you were asking?)
If something doesn't seem right, definitely ask your pharmacist.

I called the pharmacy and asked them why certain medicines only partially fill a capsule. The pharmacist said it is common and don't be concerned UNLESS there is a noticeable difference between the amounts from one capsule to the next.
For instance, if most of your capsules in the bottle are 75% full while a handful of others are only 50% full, then you may have a problem. Here's a picture I found that will help clarify my point.

The 1,2,3, and 7 capsules are consistent, while the 4,5, and 6 capsules are significantly lower in volume. In this instance, someone was try to disguise tampering with the meds by taking a bit out of each capsule.
