I've been trying to nail down studies that give a picture of the effectiveness of treatment. The effectiveness of medication is really easy to find but the effectiveness of other treatments is much more difficult.

I just happened to be reading an article by Russell Barkley and at the very end of it I found this blurb.

Advances in psychosocial treatment re-search have revealed specific subsets of indi-viduals with ADHD who may be more or less likely to benefit from these empirically proven interventions. They have also re-vealed the limitations of these approaches for generalization and maintenance of treatment effects if they are not specifically programmed into the treatment protocol.

This appears to be saying that not everyone does benefit from psycho-social treatments. So how do we find out the rates of effectiveness?
