Hi,

I just joined and am glad to find the forums. Time is in short supply at the moment, but the 60 second version:

Im 52 Female, just diagnosed with ADHD. Im a classic case so should have known. I started on ritalin and it worked fine, but very short acting. After research decied to try Addreall. Im so surprised, Im so surprised, Adderall is a bit smoother, but doesent seem to help me focus as well and I can sleep, it hardly works at all. I think Im going back to Ritalin. I guess it does depend on your brains chemistry and everybody is different. Everybody seemed to think that Addreall is stronger, but doesent seem to work that way for me, but still experimenting.

slowly: yeah, that is how it was for me. I kept telling my NP that I did not 'feel' anything LOL except sleepy. She was shocked. I did not know about these forums yet and I thought I was some special nutcase.

Jude: what strength are you taking?

I started really low: 5mgxr 2x/day... slowly got up to 20mgxr in the am and 5mgxr after lunch.

works good for me

I am not hyper and I can concentrate.

good luck finding the med that works well for you.
adderall is the only one I have tried. I did take wellbutrin in the past for what was thought was depression, lack of motivation
I don't take that anymore but that was also a very helpful med

I have read about doctors that will prescribe small dosages of provigil (modafinal) in what they call "off label use." It's use is found in the military for troops that go on long missions, people that work crazy long boring work schedules, and people with narcolepsy.

It is popular because it keeps you awake and it:
a. is not an amphetamine and not even a stimulant at all
b. is not habit forming
c. is nearly impossible to overdose on
d. has absolutely no crash at the end

Only you and your doctor can decide, but you could ask him about it.

I just think that no matter what you feel in the beginning, it will be different 2-4 months in. For the better or worse I do not know. But what to do in the mean time, huh?
Maybe a higher dose?
Best of luck
