View Full Version : Strattera - Blunted intelligence?

I recently started taking strattera. I've been on it one week now. I posted my story already if you'd like to check it out here: http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=795932#post795932

Anyway, I've noticed that my intelligence has been blunted. I was unable to find anything about this online.

What I mean is my ability to logically and rationally analyse situations and problems has diminished. Things I would normally understand and be able to do easily I am having difficulty doing.

Has anyone heard of this before? Is this normal?

Also, and I guess this kind of goes along with thee above, I kind of feel like I'm on drugs. (obviously I am, but you know what I mean). I feel sort of disconnected from the world, almost oblivious to my surroundings. I go through my daily motions as if I'm not even making cognitive choices, that I am just going through the motions.

Like I said, I wasn't really able to find symptoms like this and was curious about it. Has anyone experianced this before? If so, does it go away in time? I've read that you are really supposed to try Strattera for at least 3 weeks before you make your opinion, but if this is how I'm going to go through life, this will just not do.

Especially the blunted intelligence part. I wanted to get back on medication because I was having trouble getting all my reading done for law school. But this is interfering with my ability to learn and recall the material. If this continues I will fail this semester, which is unacceptable.

Any advice or thoughts would be very helpful.

Yes. Calm down and give it a chance to work. Either way you can't do your law work so what choice do you have?

Hi Goride,
I know what you mean. I had a hard time dealing with the SEs too, even at the lowest dose. I was determined to ride it out but I didn't make it. I went off. Within 48 hours of discontinuing I felt so much better.

I've tried several times. I never make it through the first few weeks. Now I'm just committed to being off the drugs.

Everyone reacts differently, so don't let my experience influence your decision. I just wanted to let you know you're not alone.

I have not had such an experience with Strattera. I am on 40mg now and increase to 60mg in 13 days. I've been on it for about 2-3 months now.

I feel for me it is a far better drug than Ritalin (the only other medication for ADHD I've used).

As already said, people have different experiences to each ADHD medication, so try another!
