View Full Version : Attention Deficit Disorder and Computer Frustration
Ever have to wait like a total of 1.247 seconds to have a page refresh and it gets you so frustrated you pound the keyboard?
Hmmmmmm, no, not me......... Just askin'.
I dont know if its ADHD or OCD or what. But sometimes the WWW (World Wide Wait) really gets to my nerves!
No....I don't pound my keyboard...but i'll tell you...its a good thing you can't break the browser's refresh button...lol
kitty_kaht 04-12-03, 07:35 PM Have had my puter for 3 years now and this is 7th keyboard, think that kinda tells ya how I get when it takes a while to load pages
I usuallly have several windows open at once so I sometimes forget about a page that's loading slowly...lol
Energizer_Bunny 04-15-03, 08:44 PM No, I don't pound my keyboard. Besides, I hate that noise when people type hard on their keys and women with these long fingers nails hitting the keys......ewwwww the sound of that......ewwwwww
There is a girl at work that has a cover that she puts over her ESC key. The words are not very nice, but I will let you use your creative ADHD minds to visual what it says. She hits that key alot when the system is not going like she wants it to.
prumont 06-07-04, 07:07 AM I do 2 things: 1) open multiple windows, and 2) keep my PDA on hand & play games on it while I wait. Multi tasking so ADHD
As long as stuff is moving it isn't so bad. But when my pc slows down that can make me furious in splitseconds. I think that's the main reason why I hate PDF's, you have to wait for this stupid reader to load.
On the other hand, that makes me like googles cash function more. There you can just view the PDF's as html. It wouldn't surprise me if the percentage of people that use this feature would be around 3%...
Slow computers are pure torture!
Penultimate 06-07-04, 06:12 PM Two words: Cable Modem. My computer is older than dirt but I breeze through the net. You gotta get off the twisted pair.

Tell me about this unknown function of google

Hi Garry,
if Google gets a hit that is in a PDF file, then you can use the "View as HTML" option.
Like this one:
http://www.google.com/search?q=adhd+MTA+pdf&btnG=Search&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&safe=off&c2coff=1
Check out the first hit. On the second row there's the link.
Works with Doc Files too.
NightStar 06-24-04, 10:14 PM Does it count if you pound on other items? I dont beat up the key board, but I have definitley taking a good swap at the fax machine! Come real close quite a few times, to throwing it out the window and wanted to take satisfaction to hearing it break into a bunch of little pieces on the cement below.
Like the copier in "office space"? lol.
I also multitask when waiting.
The worst is when I really, really need to do/check something and I multitask because it is slow, then 4 hours later I notice the window and now it is too late for next day air to get something to me tommorrow.
Oh, and slightly off topic:
I used to use a CAD program where I would work way to fast, but could undo things if I decided to go back to a point to try something else.
I used to use the undo feature alot.
One day I was drafting on paper and made a mistake that was going to require me to erase a whole section of the paper and redraw it.
I literally sat there for at least an hour pondering why we do not have an undo button in real life.
fasttalkingmom 06-25-04, 09:28 AM My 14 year old daughter will say to me "Mom will you just wait"....... I start clicking an stuff and get all weird because I think something is wrong because it's not happening soon enough... and we now have DSL !!! ...... :o
I like this post it made me laugh with acknowledgment.....
gabriela 06-30-04, 10:46 AM I usuallly have several windows open at once so I sometimes forget about a page that's loading slowly...lol
:D
this is sooo *me* as well!
:D
NightStar 06-30-04, 11:23 AM Problem with multiple windows open, is that you get distracted to the one you were suppose to be working in the most - and just kind of get lost wandering around.
gabriela 06-30-04, 11:39 AM problem? - possibility?
;)
but, yeah, i know what you mean!
:D
NightStar 06-30-04, 11:58 AM I can tell you what is flustrating - knowing enough about computers to be dangerous, LOL Trying to problem solve when you "think" that your computer is stuck in safe more and work on it 6 hours to realize all along that the only thing wrong was that the color the monitor was using got changed by something in the system!
Realizing that each time you seen the messed up colors used, you did not actually see the words "safe mode" just assumed it was in "safe mode". LOL
