Hi

I am a Dad living in England. I am married and we have 2 children.
Our youngest was diagnosed ADHD in Dec 2003 at the age of 10. We tried to find a local support group in our area and had great difficulty. I ended up starting a website and have been VERY suprised by how many people are affected with ADD/ADHD. According to the figures for the UK 1 in 5 children are affected. Yet we have had real difficulties in finding support at school. Why is it that we as parents should have so many problems. Its hard enough dealing with the ADHD let alone having to constantly fight the education system:sad:

1 in 5 is the number of people that have some degree of symptoms but may be managing in life adequately. The number with official diagnosis who are having serious trouble coping is more like 5 to 7% from what I've seen. I'd guess 1/2 the population can relate to some of the symptoms, it's all relative. I'm thinking I fall on the line around the 7% area but have depression & anxiety that makes it worse. I will have to deal with those first & see what remains.

hi maddad
i also live in the uk and am only starting to find out all the difficulties i am going to have to face here with my John
I have only just found this forum and have found it a great help so far from what i've read lots of people wih lots of experience
one thing i have noticed though it seems much harder (no offence to anyone)for people over here to accept adhd as anything wrong apart from bad parenting which makes me so mad if they only knew i can't speak for anyone else but all the extra attention i have to give because of johns adhd they would soon realise its not bad parenting and maybe offer us more help when we need it
