On average I sleep 4 hours a night. Any longer than that and I'm to stiff to get out of bed. I do nap sometimes during the day, but not often because if I do I can't sleep at night. The doctors have given me meds to make me sleep longer, but I hate them, I can't get up to the alarm if I take them and then I feel hung over the next day.

I have no earthly idea. During the week, about 6-7. Saturday, all day or until I am tired of sleeping. I have to make up for lost time during the week. I like my Saturday's quiet. It is my day to unwind. Working in a cubicle environment can be stressful and noisey. But thankgoodness, in June, we are going back to the main building and there will be two to an office and the person I am in the office with just happens to be OCD.

Um, sorry, getting off topic.

As most of you know... I suffer insomnia. My body finally shuts down between 2 and 3 a.m. I get up at 6 to get kids ready for school. Sometimes I get a nap.. sometimes I don't. :( There are days that I literally run on fumes as the saying goes.

I to have cycles of insomnia but I still manage about 6 hours of sleep a night, during the summer with the sun I sleep less then during the winter when it is always dark.

meds screw it all up...even though I'm not on stimulants, you'd never know it...sometimes I'm up all night...lying there..wondering when I will fall asleep...so I guess 6 hours on average...maybe more on other nights...less on others...

On meds. I get a good 8 hours. Off meds and or the 2 weeks before my period I get 5 or less. I go to sleep and awake at about the some time each night, 1:15am. Then stay awake for 1 or 3 hours. Which is hard for me, seeing I have to wake up at 4:30am for work ! I've been so tired I've had to call out sick for the morning.

My husband I feel, never understand this and to me it seems he thinks it's an excuse I make up to avoid sex. "I'm tired" He gets upset with me when I say " I really need to sleep".

This is not new to me, I can remember waking up like this a kid. I thought everyone did it....lol...I'd sit at the kitchen with a glass of milk. My mom would get up and some times she'd make us a snack, peanutbutter on saltines...lol.. Which I still do today ..lol..
I also use to sit by my open bedroom window on a summers night and just stare out it for hours, thinking, listens, dreaming.....
Now, I watch TV, clean out my pocketbook, make out bills.

I try for 8 hours of sleep but end up with 7 all the time.
I can't get my mind to shut up so I can sleep ;)

Okay, now I'm finding when STUFF is going on in my life, changes, etc. less hours of peaceful sleep do I get. I will wake up in the middle of the night....thinking....obsessing, whatever....nothing to do with meds nowadays....oh yes life is a challenge....so I'll just start talking to God...what else can I do??:)

I don't get nearly as much sleep as I need, but when I do sleep, it is usually disturbed and unsatisfying. *sigh*

I need to split my sleep between day and night. some of my best work is done in the quiet of night.

But I can't get all of a days' sleep at once. i need to alernate on apparaenly an irregular schedule.

Makes keeping othe thing regular difficult.

6 to 8 hours at night starting at 8:30 PM. If I miss that start point it is sometimes midnight or 1 before i get to bed.

midmorning and early afternoon are two other times I get really drowsy or need a nap.

Go figure

Stimulants just screw that up.. keep me up during the day, and I get progressively sleep deprived while it looks like i'm "doing ok."

It is like my brain needs REM sleep or shalow nap sleep more often than other brains....

Lately i sleep 2-3 hours a night.. Since I started taking concerta i have had much more trouble sleeping than I ever had before.. I used to get around 5-6 hours.. I've been seriously lacking sleep, but I'm still just not tired..
I have always been both a nite owl and a morning person (the earlier I get up the more cheerful I am, it makes people angry lol)..

I have a crazy schedule.. I have a work schedule that is highly irregular (thank you Target).. And I start night school tomorrow, so now any weekday shift i have at work is 8am-4:30, then I will run home, change into scrubs (I get to wear scrubs.. I think thats the most exciting part LOL), and drive about 30 min to school.. somewhere in there im supposed to eat, and maybe study a bit too..hmm... return home at 11pm.. except this week its work @ 7am, with more of a breather in between work and school..
So I am trying to set a regular pattern, despite when i get to bed I really need to look into OTC sleep meds before I can make it back to dr... Any suggestions on those?
The plan is to start waking up at 6am, go for a run or something(yeah, right.. thats those unrealistic goals i have been blabbering about everywhere else) , then come home and get ready for work (or maybe study if no work), then be home from school by 11, knock myself out (wishful thinking), and do it all over again...

Only 1 year and 6 months left to go.

What is this "sleep" you speak of?

I dunno...I keep hearing about it. Must be some rare condition.

yea! I think I had that once ....

Any chance the sleep deprivation is partially responsable for the aADD stuff?

Hey Boogie! Did you count Kirkwood's class in that 8?

I usually get about 6 or 7. I get more on the weekend because my wife lets me take a nap or sleep in. I have the most trouble between 12 am and 3am.... Why? nobody knows.

I sleep 6 hours/night. But the funny thing is, it doesn't matter when I fall asleep. I wake up automatically after 6 hours. It's a real pain when I fall asleep at 8 PM and wake up at 2 AM and can't fall asleep again! Tonight I woke up at 3 AM (I'm in sweden)

I get 4-6 hours most nights & then about once a month I have a sleepathon where I sleep for 12-13 hours straight on a weekend. If go to bed early I just wake up early! Really I don't stay up late just to watch reruns of Buffy & Angel

i get about 6 hours if i am lucky....and my family wonder why i am in such a ill mood in the mornings....geez

the man of the house however gets about 9-11 hours and is still a bear to get up, damn i would be in a much better mood if i even got a full 8 hours. LOL

I usually sleep 6 hours or less. I like staying up late.... sometimes work just doesn't cooperate however.

04-04-04, 01:33 PM
lol apc...i know that all too well. although i dont work outside of the home...the kids are a job in itself. and they dont cooperate very well either if it had been a long night. my thing is though that i stay up late so i am up when the man gets home from work. so we can spend some kind of time together...though not much anymore...LOL

For me it varies. Some nights i can't get to sleep until 2 or 3AM and my son always wakes me up between 5:15 and 5:45 every day. I almost never get 8 hours and have to say I've gotten around 6 hours on average. When I sleep more than 8 hours I might as well be drunk...

I think I focus better on less sleep. But I AM much more irritable... go figure.

Gee, I guess that i am the odd ball you could say I get about 10-12 hours of sleep. I have been told to find out about sleep apnea (spelling is worng). It seems that i can't get enough sleep or maybe that i love to sleep and be in my sleep world. don't know

With me, I can't fall asleep until at least 1. No conditions, I just can't sleep until that time no matter how much I slept the night before. Thing is, I love sleep :-) Once I DO fall asleep, I can sleep a good 10-12 hours if someone lets me. If I get <5 hours sleep, then I'm in a weird zombie like state the whole next day.

I can always go right to sleep most of the time but staying asleep is the hard thing I dont really think I sleep over 4 hours a night

Whoever said 12 or 13 hours, must be nice.

I picked 5, but when I get a day off I'll sleep as long as I possibly can. Like 10-12 hours.

7.5 hours of sleep is when I naturally wake up...that's 5 sleep cycles. On Tuesdays and Thursdays though I have to wake up at 6:40, so I sometimes only get 6 hours of sleep on those days...which is 4 sleep cycles. It all works out though.

Hm, usually 4 or 5. Then like once a week I crash. Hard. Like 14 hours-ish.

I need 7 hours; 6 and I fall asleep at my computer at work, 8 gets the same response. 7 is just right for me.
