I've been doing some physiotherapy for a torn quadricpet on my left leg. I injured it on April 5th so the majority of the mending is done. I'm now working to bring it up to the strength it was originally.
I got the go ahead this week to add some heavier muscle building to the healing routine. I added a ride on my horse and that definitely did the deed. < g >
That was my first ride of the year and although I warmed up well and had been doing leg building and stretching for more than a month I am stiff from the ride. I rode maybe an hour but even in my relaxed state my legs got a huge work-out. My lungs didn't though and I guess that's next.
My mare is a 1000 pound full blood Arabian who stands 15.2 which is big for an Arab. I broke her myself twelve years ago after leaning I could train dogs pretty well. I have never been able to challenge that mares fitness. I've run her until I was seeing stars and she let me know that she wasn't nearly done if I cared to go at it again. I love taking her pulse. Now that's a pulse!
I'm having so much fun finding exercise where ever it comes up. Weeding, landscaping, fighting with the dog, riding the mare, it's all the same stuff. I suppose I could be calling "cross training" and that way it looks legitimate. < g >
I hope to ride reasonably regularly. I still have quite a bit of wood to split but it doesn't make me smile like riding does.
Now that I'm active so much more is happening around the house and yard. Will this be my year? I hope so. I am not being very successful in keeping my expectations out of the clouds.
The image is of D'zar with all her winter coat still intact.
Cheers! Ian.
