Memorial Day weekend. Its not about 3 day weekends and picnics.

Chances are all of us know a veteran...a friend, brother, father, uncle. Take minute to tell them thank you.

And remember, those young men who were thrust into hell in the Pacific and Europe during WWII, are now in their 70s. Treat them with the respect and dignity they deserve.

Next time you mutter something under your breath when you're stuck behind some old man driving too slowly...think about it....when that man was a kid...17-20 yrs old.....he wasn't home playing video games---he was fighting his way through hell...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Freedom isn't free.

Its been, and continues to be, paid for by the bravery and honor of those who leave their home and families so that our homes and families never see the horrors of war upon our shores.

We all take the freedom were enjoy here in the US for granted. That's great, that's what they fought for, so that freedom wouldn't be threatened.

Join me in thanking those who have given us that freedom.

I know we have at least among us...

Thank you, E-boy and BeachBum, for the freedom my family enjoys today.

This is just touching...

Still, I never fought my way through hell. I'll pass the thanks on to my Father, my Grandfathers and my Great Grandfathers.

I was on the Enterprise when she was the first to strike back after 9/11. No thanks necessary for that. That was an honor. It was civilians, firefighters, and police officers who went through hell then.

Nonetheless, I am not used to being appreciated for my choice of work thank you erinj and FastalkingMom for thinking of us. Thank you more for thinking of the vets and the boys and girls overseas right now.

E-Boy...... It may sound corny but I make sure I thank anyone I meet that I know is in the service.

Just a few months ago I attended a wake of a man who he and his family lived on my street as I was growning up. I was friends with a few of his children( they had 7). One of these "kids" has a son who's now 21 and told me he just come back from Iraq a few weeks earlier. I thanked him with a hand shake and a pat on the back and told him I was glad he'd came back to us. I have to admitt I got a bit choked up because I knew this brave young man when he was in diapers, now look what's doing !

Erinj -- well said. I agree. Thank you E-boy, BeachBum, and all those living and deceased who are willing to sacrifice their lives so I don't have to. You're right, we take our freedom for granted, and too often we take for granted those in our society who are willing to lay down their lives in defense of our freedom.

Let us remember that Memorial Day is about remembering and honoring those who've made the ultimate sacrifice so that we can have our barbeques in peace.
