Hello
How long can school administrators question an 11 year old
student before notifying the parents? Is an hour and one half to long?

I honeslty don't know if there are any specfic rules. I saw many students being questioned w/ out their parents for long periods of time. I would certainly let the school know in writing that you do not want them to question your child w/ out a parent being notified. You may even want to take it a step further is have it written into your child's IEP or 504.

What are the circumstances? Was your child in serious trouble? And where are you? I'm in Canada, you might have different rules if you are American or British, etc...

I could understand that it may take some time to extract the facts of a situation, especially if there were several children involved. The administrators would probably be interviewing each separately and possibly more than once to verify details and then again together to see what shakes out. They wouldn't want to be held liable for passing on inaccurate information to parents. That may explain the delay in your being notified.

If they were just grilling the one kid for that long, though, I say it's too much. If the circumstance is serious enough to warrant such an extensive inquiry, I'd be pretty upset about not being notified immediately.

I don't mean to pry but there are definatly some guidelines the school system must follow. The only time the guidelines are overlooked is when the child is being questioned about suspected abuse in home or at the school, the age of the child is also a factor.

I'm wondering if you can tell me what was your child be questioned about and more importantly what form did the questioning take.

For instance my son has some bruising on his legs and arms. The principle asked him how he got them and when he told them that a specific boy in his class gave them to him I was notified and went to the office what I found upsetting (even though My child was the one who was abused) the bully's parents had not been called yet.
