I'm back taking my original dose of 10mg Dex SR in the morning but have changed the 5mg FR afternoon dose to 3:30pm instead of 4:40pm
I think I get a bit nasty coming off this stuff. Short tempered and a bit mean. If I remember to take the afternoon stuff earlier by an hour I don't get the rebound or whatever it is until I'm alone at night and can only bite my own head off.
Does this make sense? Does Dex had a rebound somewhat like what I expereinced on Ritalin?
Cheers! Ian.

I'm on dex , 5mg twice a day.......
I take mine very early in the morning during work week.. And then again at about 12:30pm. On sat and sun. I take it whenever I get up and some times when ever I get around to it. Most of the time I don't take my second dose unless I'm going some where that I need to not spacey...lol..
I noticed on the weekends I feel grouchy. I never thought maybe it's about my meds ! It would make sense !

I guess all stimulants have a rebound effect. I'm just starting on dexedrine after finding that ritalin wasn't lasting longer than about 2 hours. I find the dexedrine starts and finishes more slowly - smoother? - and the rebound doesn't seem as "sharp" - I think I like it better than the ritalin.
I do seem to have a quicker heartbeat, but then I have just started taking it - my body was used to the ritalin. It's not bothersome or dangerously fast and I'm sure it will settle down with a little time - I'm worried about my BP however - the next Dr's appointment will the be "tell" if my BP's way high, I'm sure my Dr (my GP) will switch me back. He was very unsure about giving me the Dex - he's not familiar with adult ADHD and I think my request for dexedrine made him nervous.

Greg

I've been on Dex. for almost a year. I still get that quicker heart beat for about an hour after I take it. I've gone to the doctor during this time and my BP was up a bit but nothing my doctor worried about.Se just said something any because normally I have perfect BP. I've also gone to my doctor later in the day when my heart wasn't beating faster and my BP was fine.
2 weeks ago, I started taking Wellburtin also and this past week I had to take an antibiotic that had the same side affects as Dex. and Well. OMG !!!!!!! for 4 hours my heart was beating fast, I felt disoriented, confused ! and very hyper. I called my pharm. she told me it was ok to be taking all three together but I shouldn't take them at the same time !!! ........ She was right.... :D
Smoother is my experience with Dex too. Much smoother but I hadn't comprehended that the rebound was also present in the Dex. It's not as harsh but I was getting caught.
I was coming off the Dex SR a bit soon and ending up with a bad case of "off with their heads" at around dinner time. I set my alarm to remind me to take the second dose an hour earlier and that seems to be working. I really like Dex.
There are no generic versions of Dex in Canada according to my pharmacist. Thank-you Brian M u l r o n e y ya knob.
Mixing drugs is pretty scary for me FTM. I'd have been nervous.
Cheers and thanks! Ian.

I think the "no Canadian generic" thing may just be market driven. Dexedrine seems to be used much less than ritalin. And there may not be enough of a market for a generic manufacturer to think it worth the hassle in Canada - insurance wise, etc - to sell an "amphetamine". It definately has a more negative "reputation" - in name alone!
I think it's far superior to ritalin for me - I think it's the extra noradrenaline boost which ritalin doesn't have - which is also why it has more CNS effects - pulse and BP.
I think the lack of generics comes from Federal legislation in the M u l r o n e y years that was to drafted to encourage the drug manufacturing bigwigs to come build plants in a country that doesn't support generics.
I hate. Canadians are so docile. I can say that cuz I'm one right?...hehehe Just a sec .. I'll slip into some asbestos.
Cheers! Ian

I only take dex once a day before work, and it wears off after 6 hours. The rebound makes me irritable and uneasy, so yesterday i bought some cigars to help counteract the rebound. Glad to say it worked, when i start getting rebound i went outside and smoked half a cigar and i was calm and relaxed. Just a stragety that works.
I take 15 mg of Dex twice a day, and I find that if I take my second dose too early in the day, or if I don't take it at all, I get a very strong rebound effect where I get really silly/hyper and a case of the munchies, and sometimes it's harder to get to sleep than if I take my Dex too late in the day.

I've been on dexamphetamines (in Australia) for about three years now ( 5mg 3 times a day). I usually take one every 3-4 hours, the first one at nine and the last at about 4-5. But if I miss that last one I quickly get into this crazy mood, somewhere between paranoia and anxiety; its very noticable, especially to people close to me.
