With so many professionals able to diagnose ADD I'm wondering how to find the best specialist. We requested to converse with my son's pediatrician who only sent us questionaires in the mail (for both parent and teacher). I know nothing about how thorough/competant our pediatrician is for ADD. My son will be 13 in a few more days and I REALLY need to spare him from any potential confidence busting encounters.

I could contact the school Psychiatrist but I know nothing about her/him. I have a recommendation for a different local pediatrician (from a parent with 2 ADD/ADHD children) but it's unlikely I can meet with him as he is not taking new patients. Too bad as he is apparently ADD himself.

What's a parent to do? Then there's the flip side, I'd like to speak to someone about myself and ADD. Advice?

Why not call the Dr. you have a recommendation for. even if he is not taking new patients, he may be able to suggest you to someone that is and he considers to be good. then you can call the other office and say Dr. (insert name) recommended that I call you.... :)

why not talk to the parent of 2 ADD children and see what their experience has been. there is also a wealth of information here on the forums and parents too that have gone through the same or similar experiences you are going through.

The questionnaires the Dr. are a starting point too and a follow up appointment I think would be necessary to discuss the information there.
Your Dr. may be gather ting information to then make a referral to a specialist to get him diagnosed. thats what it sounds like to me.
