View Full Version : TV Characters with Attention Deficit Disorder Tara 04-14-03, 11:43 AM Who are some fictional TV characters who you think probably have AD/HD? Tara 04-14-03, 11:45 AM One that comes to mind for me is Edith Bunker from All in the Family. mark 04-14-03, 04:36 PM Tim Allen from Home Repair has gotta be ! "So were going to take this race car, see, and re-wire it so it goes a whole heck of alot faster. Hoohoohoo Ooo ooo ooo, Ahhh Ahhh Ahhh......!" misclee 04-15-03, 01:11 AM Bugs Bunny Spirit 04-15-03, 09:48 AM Some that comes to mind is: Michael & Jr from My Wife and Kids. George Lopez from the George Lopez show Bart Simpson from Simpsons Roger Rabbit Andrew 04-16-03, 12:06 AM Tazmanian Devil Pocketplayer 04-18-03, 04:51 PM Robbin Williams, Jim Carey, most Rock n' Roll drummers, David Letterman, Tom Arnold, and I'm listening to a radio show on AD/HD & Ritalin...Sean Hannity 790 KABC AM Friday 1:50PM. Not a positive outlook. Good for all to hear because it is the popular, incorrect, ignorant opinion. Tara 04-18-03, 05:23 PM yes, but the questoin was Fictional TV characters not real people...lol Pocketplayer 04-18-03, 07:39 PM Maxwell Smart, Barney Fife, Gober Pyle, Herman Munster, Fred Sanford, Mork, Steve from Beverly Hills 90210, Ray Ramano, Homer Simpson... Tara 04-19-03, 11:52 AM Lucy Ricardo from I love Lucy Mary 04-20-03, 10:55 PM I think Wile E. Coyote would have been. joanrdtobe 04-21-03, 03:06 PM Eddie Haskell...from the old Leave it to Beaver....had to have SOMETHING...if not ADD..... Flyfisher 04-22-03, 02:03 AM Clark Griswald, especially in Christmas vacation! Here's a few top reasons why I feel so strongly,lol........ His ability to hyper focus on putting up Christmas lights(and his inability to put them away in an organized way the year before)! The ladder scene where he is hanging for dear life on the underside. He can't figure out whether to put his arm over or under the rung. That is my all time favorite movie scene, since I can relate with the confusion. The part where he heads up in the attic to stash presents, and ends up finding some he stashed 40 years earlier. Then get side tracked and watches old 8 ml films he finds! His empathy for cousin Eddie. The part where he is looking out the window and has a hysterical daydream. His genious creation of cereal that is not penatrated by milk. I love that movie, and it is on TV enough that I think I can sneak him in as a TV character.:D If you haven't seen it, it provides a good laugh! unreal33 05-16-03, 03:31 PM Half the people on "Blind Date"... oh wait, those are real people. :) Fictional: Fred Flintstone. Robin, the boy wonder. Dennis the Menace (definitely). Elmo (early childhood ADD). Oscar the Grouch (ADD with borderline personality disorder). Snuffleupagus (ADD with bipolar disorder). Ernie (AD/HD). (Bert clearly has OCD, as is The Count.) Cookie Monster (Autism, too). The guy from the Jimmy John's sandwich commercials who talks so fast. Homer & Bart The kid with the helmet Mike Myers used to play on SNL. Daffy Duck. Porky Pig. joanrdtobe 05-16-03, 03:34 PM I watch Blind Date ALL the time...never thought of that!!! :) lol....perhaps they have to have ADD to qualify to be on the show...do you think that Roger Lodge MC guy has ADD too?? Toad 05-21-03, 08:34 PM Homer J. Simpson, but he's an idiot too, with flashes of genius. And Tom Green fasttalkingmom 05-22-03, 07:23 PM Originally posted by Flyfisher Clark Griswald, especially in Christmas vacation! Maybe this is why that is my favorite Christmas movie ...lol... I so agree with you  SmartIdiot 05-23-03, 04:39 PM Hehe deffinately Tom Green! "Daddy would you like some sausage?Daddy would you like some sausages...." Tara 05-23-03, 05:29 PM Yes...but Tom Green is a real person SmartIdiot 05-23-03, 11:35 PM Errrr ummmm... Tom Green's character in Freddy Got Fingered. :) :D Keppig 05-24-03, 10:44 AM How about Ed, Edd, and Eddy on Cartoon Network. Dexter and DeeDee show it runs in the family! :D SHScott1977 05-30-03, 09:29 AM Pacey on Dawson's Creek, Meadow on the Soprano's D.Lerious 06-06-03, 07:25 PM I would dare say that Mr. Bean has ADD. He's often impulsive. Tara 06-06-03, 07:30 PM I think Meadow, Tony and AJ are all ADDers. Actually I think has anti-social personality disorder too... missing_cues 06-08-03, 10:15 PM dont know if anyone has seen this show or even heard of it, but the british sci-fi comedy "RED DWARF" has a character lister who is, in my opinion a great example of someone with ADD...the first two seasons are available on DVD right now and I constantly have them on my computer and watch them when I get a bit down. I also have a friend who got me hooked on the show "Scrubs" this year...while none of the people there have a lot of the symptoms, the one character, JD, seems to be pretty close...he's always daydreaming and staring off into space when people ask him a question (So me to a T) and then Dr. Cox is my other favourite character, who often says things just off the cuff and at the same time is probably the one who cares for people the most on the show....he has that short, blunt attitude that I have, but they write his character a little more harshly than I act normally, still, he makes me laugh....Other than that, I really dont watch much TV. joanrdtobe 06-08-03, 11:25 PM Watching reruns....Betty White's character on the Golden Girls...(Rose Nyland)....(her St. Olaf stories???).....and on Three's Company....Chrissy's character, the blond... Chattered 03-27-04, 11:56 AM On the TV Show FRIENDS the character Lisa Kudrow plays PHOEBE Emma S 03-27-04, 12:55 PM Originally posted by Spirit Some that comes to mind is: Michael & Jr from My Wife and Kids. George Lopez from the George Lopez show Bart Simpson from Simpsons Roger Rabbit 'Bart Simpson' actually does have ADD.:D I saw the episode a couple of weeks ago on TV(not sure how old it was),the character was shown being diagnosed with it and it showed him concentrating and then later-getting addicted to medication. Jellybean 03-27-04, 01:25 PM That is so funny! That is one show I miss (since not waching tv). krisp 03-27-04, 02:43 PM I'd say Red Green is. No linear thinker could come up with that many uses for duct tape. :D FlakeyGirl 03-27-04, 05:44 PM Jan Brady? Rhoda? Hawkeye Pierce? Blossom? I'll think of some more. I do take issue with whomever suggested Eddie Haskell earlier. I submit that Eddie Haskell, while he may have had AD/HD, deserves the primary diagnosis of sociopath. That guy was just not right. As for the Friends, Phoebe is the obvious one, but I think Joey deserves a look also. I am thinking of the natural charisma empathy aspect of his character. Nucking_Futs 03-27-04, 06:56 PM Dory from Finding Nemo---she is so much like me it's scarry lol FlakeyGirl 03-27-04, 07:38 PM Alf. Gilligan. The Professor. MacGeyver (that one's been done to death, I know) Mork. Jo Pollicek on Facts of Life. Did anyone mention Lisa Simpson? Harlan (?) the labcoated mechanic on CHiPs, Grace of Will and Grace. OOps. Pocketplayer already listed Mork as well as "Gober" Pyle. I wonder if that is Gomer or Goober, his cousin. Both would probably be correct. Shaggy. I'm sure there are a bunch more. I'll keep thinking. waywardclam 03-28-04, 12:32 AM Speedy Gonzalez comes to mind. Anya from Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Jeff Hardy from the WWE. Bull Shannon from Night Court. The Flash from the new Justice League. Mary 03-28-04, 03:09 AM Foghorn Leghorn is another one. Sylvestor would be on the list as well. IF noone mentioned Yogi bear..he's gotta be ADDed.... and the list goes on. Chattered 03-28-04, 08:47 AM Mr. Magoo I know its cartoon but you can't leave Mr. Mag:sick:  out krisp 03-28-04, 09:50 AM Larry David's character on "Curb Your Enthusiasm" .... though I'm not entirely sure how fictional he is... waywardclam 03-28-04, 10:33 AM I think Tim Allen from Home Improvement might be as well. Lafnalot 03-28-04, 12:06 PM Originally posted by joanrdtobe Eddie Haskell...from the old Leave it to Beaver....had to have SOMETHING...if not ADD..... I'm thinking ASPD...the boy was a con in the making FlakeyGirl 03-28-04, 08:53 PM Originally posted by FlakeyGirl I do take issue with whomever suggested Eddie Haskell earlier. I submit that Eddie Haskell, while he may have had AD/HD, deserves the primary diagnosis of sociopath. That guy was just not right. Lafnalot, is that the same thing as sociopath? Did anybody say Kramer from Seinfeld? He's a sure bet. Elaine, too. krisp 03-28-04, 09:02 PM Hmm, well, I'm not sure I want to claim George Costanza as one of US, but surely he had some issues too ... ;) jaimegerise 03-28-04, 09:17 PM MY FAVORITE CHARACTER of all time....Anne Shirley of "Anne of Green Gables".......She's my hero, and the poster child for inattentive ADD!!! If you've never seen the Anne trilogy....I highly recommend it! Especially for young girls! Anne is imaginitive, supersmart, and mischevious! Her imagination is always getting her in trouble because she's often paying more attention to her thoughts than what she should be! But she does grow up to be a well admired woman.....:D Lafnalot 03-28-04, 09:24 PM Originally posted by FlakeyGirl Lafnalot, is that the same thing as sociopath? Did anybody say Kramer from Seinfeld? He's a sure bet. Elaine, too. Yes ma'am sure is, somehow missed your post...see great minds think alike. BeachBum 03-29-04, 11:41 AM Bing Bing Bing! Ricochet Rabbit:) Anyone remember him? FlakeyGirl 03-29-04, 01:20 PM Beavis, and to a lesser degree, Butthead. MRB 03-30-04, 08:51 PM The inimitable Dr. Peter Venkmam from Ghostbusters - as we said in school, ADHD with a big-a** "H". As I think about it, his colleague (Dan Aykroyd's character, whose name I forget) - I'm intuiting "overfocused" subtype for him also. And my beloved River Phoenix's "Carl" from "Sneakers". The Joker (both Jack Nicholson's and Caesar Romero's). The Riddler (both Frank Gorshin's and Jim Carrey's). I think I've watched too many movies. kat_in_mich 04-01-04, 03:42 PM how about the majors friend on i dream of jeannie? and the neighbor woman marcie from married with children....hmmm who else....sylvester the cat....had to have something besides a speech impediment....lol waywardclam 04-01-04, 04:13 PM Dennis the Menace, definitely. :D And Calvin from Calvin & Hobbes. emtchick 04-01-04, 04:18 PM Doh! Tom and Ray Magliozzi :D :p :D Stranger 04-03-04, 10:42 PM I don't know about those two--one of them, I forget which, has a Ph.D and was a college professor?? Although the career changes they both have made may be indicative of something....ADD maybe! krisp 04-04-04, 10:15 AM I've known a lot of PhDs who were classic ADD, so it's entirely possible! ;) waywardclam 04-04-04, 11:52 AM Has anyone said Gilligan? kat_in_mich 04-04-04, 01:53 PM not sure clam....and the skipper too....he was always running around like a chicken with his head cut off.. mctavish23 04-04-04, 02:16 PM quizno's mutant hamsters kat_in_mich 04-05-04, 08:32 AM LOL mct....definately the quiznos spongerats i think they are called....ask sweet81corvette in chat room she will know....LOL Keppig 04-07-04, 06:13 PM True from True Calling, Any of the Gilmore Girls as well as some of their friends, Ash from Pokemon, face it most heros from Anime are hyper :D, Kathleen from Taming of the Screw... ok I'm done for now... jaimegerise 04-07-04, 06:19 PM hmmm maybe Lilo has it..... Just good ol' boys, Wouldn't change if they could, Fightin' the system like a true modern day Robin Hood. It's my belief that Hazzard County had it's share of neuroses...you name it, they had it. Avistar_sg 07-14-04, 08:03 AM The Joker doesnt have ADD nor ADHD, the Joker is just totally nuts about peanuts :) FlakeyGirl 07-29-04, 10:31 PM Lucy, the medical student from ER has(had) ADD. She talked about it on one episode and started taking ritalin again. GiggleTroll 08-13-04, 03:39 PM Probably only those from the UK have heard of this show, but Sarah the under-house maid from Upstairs, Downstairs definitely has ALL the symptoms.I like watching her daydream in almost every episode she was in.:) TheMikey 08-16-04, 03:57 PM Ricochet Rabbit is definitely ADHD. Conlaw 08-16-04, 06:53 PM He's not fictional. Or was he? Did we see the "real" person or an actor"? If I was stuck in a house with twelve other people and nothing to hyperfocus on (take me away!), I think I would respond as he did. I hope not, but I think I would. Susan vermillion 09-06-04, 06:11 AM Pippin from Lord of The Rings... mother rabies 10-02-04, 11:30 PM Who ever mentioned Red Dwarf, hats off!!!! I love that Britcom. Canuck 10-03-04, 09:41 PM How about Ernest P. Worrel? Aside from his movies, remember the commercials he did years back for Gainers suasages, bacon, etc. wher he used to bug the heck out of his "friend" Vern? Hilarious!!! exeter 10-04-04, 02:16 AM Ok, I want to add: Pinky and the Brain Dr. Emmet "Doc" Brown from Back to the Future (1.21 Gigawatts!? Lol) Ren and Stimpy Rocky from Rocky & Bullwinkle R2D2 (Hmm, robots count, don't they?) Astro from the Jetsons Johnny 5 from Short Circuit Scrappy Doo Gonzo, Animal, and Fozzee Bear off the Muppets Sir Elton John ... oh wait, hmm, he's sort of fictional, isn't he? Or is that just me hoping so... lol. Canuck 10-04-04, 06:25 PM There's a Belgian comic book caracter named "Gaston Lagaffe" (roughly translated "Gaston The Goof) who could be a poster child for ADD. He's an office boy who works in the offices of a kid's magazine called Spirou and he isn't very motivated in his job. One of his responsibilities is to answer reader's letters but he's always days, weeks, months, even years behind in this task. When he isn't sleeping at his desk, he's either inventing all kinds of gadgets and gizmos, trying various recipes (such as his famous "codfish with strawberries" or his "hotdogs with apricot jam"), or blowing up the entire 6th floor with his junior chemistry set. Some of his more original projects: ->Growing mushrooms in the magazine's darkroom. ->Installing a monorail system throughout the office. ->Building a ski ramp over the building's stairs On two separate occasions he converted his old jalopy of a car to run on coal and then on natural gas! (The natural gas experiment was a disaster: when he started the engine, the gas tanks mounted on the roof of the car took off life missiles and hit the local police station.) The worst of it is that his boss and co-workers often suffer physical injury as a result of his creativity. The entire comic book series ran from 1958 till the 80s. There used to be a gag a week in the REAL magazine called Spirou. The cartoonist that came up with the caracter of "Gaston Lagaffe" passed away in 1995. He was in his 70s, I think. I bought the entire about 15 years ago when it was released in a special collector's edition. I must have read and re-read the entire series hundreds of times yet, I still get a kick out of it. mother rabies 10-04-04, 09:44 PM Quicksilver from the X-men Evolution cartoon. Canuck 10-15-04, 04:14 PM Bill from the "Adventures with Bill" segment of the "Red Green Show". Also, Red's nephew Harold. whiteraven 10-28-04, 08:09 PM Calvin and Hobbes. Not on tv, but definately. Avistar_sg 10-30-04, 02:33 AM LoL! This I got to say! Daffy Duck =) Daffy Duck quotes: "WOO HOO! WOO HOO! It's not that I'm crazy, I just don't give a darn! WOO HOO!" "I really pity this guy, he's just plain nuts!" "Oh yea?" "Yea!" "WOOHOO! WOOHOO!" "Drrrrrrrrrrrrt! I think I would want some drrrrrrrrt...porky pie.....drrrrrrt!" Daffy Duck acts of insanity: Kisses anyone he sees ... yuck ... Bounces on his head repetitively ad infinitum ... Propragmatic acts of attention seeking ... (holds up a signboard stating: "Duck Season opens today" in front of Elmer ... lol ) Never stops talking ... LoL ... reminds me of the good old days of watching the Looney Toon show :) Dreameralive_sky 10-30-04, 03:30 AM Coyote fox from looney toons. He is always careless and forgetful so he never managed to catch the bird. He is smart, imaginative and have many creative inventions. f_wcomboadhd 11-02-04, 08:21 AM SPEAKING OF BRITCOM: abfab girls HELLO! both...patsy and edwina..<major case especially edwina d0dg3r 11-23-04, 02:02 AM I don't think anyone has mentioned Sherlock Holmes in this thread yet. An absolutely classic fictitious example of ADHD. From his insatiable curiosity -- if I recall correctly, he's first mentioned to Watson (looking for a flatmate) as this odd character beating the corpses  at St. Bart's because he wants to know how long after death a body can be bruised -- to essentially creating his profession, to his wildly varied interests and pursuits (boxing, music, etc. etc.) his social awkwardness outside of his work, his dependance on cocaine for stimulation when not occupied with a case ("Quick, Watson! The needle!"), shooting Queen Victoria's initials into one of the walls of 221B Baker Street with a pistol more or less for the sheer hell of it... Incidentally, must recommend watching or reading the remarkable pastiche "The Seven Per Cent Solution" if you ever get the opportunity. Holmes meets Sigmund Freud, gets treated for his cocaine addiction, and the two work together on a mystery. Much fun if you don't take it too seriously. One of my oldest friends recalls to this day that when he first met me in school I was walking down the hall reading a collection of Holmes stories held with one hand, with a biography of Einstein tucked under the other arm. So I gotta represent for the Consulting Detective. ;) |
