The Long Black Line

The black line rolls into the sky,
The distance comes in fast,
A gust of wind gives me a shove,
I hold as best I can,

In the night a whirl of blue
And then a slash of red,
I hold a little tighter,
There's trouble up ahead,

Did they have a chance to see
Their loved ones one last time,
Did they think the end would come
Upon the long black line,

The black line runs behind me,
As far as I can see,
Up ahead I feel its pull
To where my dreams might be,

I've run from fear and sadness,
Happiness I couldn't find,
Until I chose this life I live,
Upon the long black line.

The horror of death and dismemberment are as close as the nose on my face. Seeing all the crosses lining the roads marking where someone lost their life put these words in my head.

A twist of fate
A turn too late,

A greasy smear
Of blood and hair,

A grounded home
A name in stone.

Fire Agate

A burning ember eons old
Trapped and held in a crystal fold,

A mighty,
Molten,
Movement from
Bowels...deep below

Set you free
For my eyes to see
And then to take you home!

The diners
Come through the door like cattle through a chute.
Their babes
Bleating
Demanding
Like calves at the teat.

My aloneness covers me like a heavy drape
Hiding
Entombing
Protecting me...from them.
