after my boyfriend left, he came back. And asked me if I had a trash bag. I said whats wrong. He said you have one less cat.
It had apparently been hit earlier within 2 hours. I don't know which one it was as I have 4 completely black cats. He said he'd take care of it, and said I didn't need to help I looked out toward the street from the porch, and under the light of his headlights saw the body of a cat lying in the road. A little ways down.

I am so glad my son didn't wake to see it. He gets up earlier than I, and goes outside first thing. He also took it to throw away elsewhere.
Anyway I am in shock a bit.
I told my cats recently that if they are going to get hit by a car, they should get all the way hit cause I can't afford the vet bills.
I just feel very sad. :cry:

Tomorrow I will find out who is missing. I think it was the toe nibbler "Fat Butt" As usually when I am on the porch he pesters me. I wasn't pestered at 2 am, yet he pestered us at midnight.

oh, JB, I'm so sorry. i know how heartbreaking it is to lose a beloved pet.. if you're like me, they're family members, not "pets".

I understand your relief that your son didn't find your cat.

Your boyfriend sounds like a good guy, the way he handled the situation.

BTW, We have...had....3 black cats, ourselves. lost one the night of the fire.

JB, if you were closer, I'd let you have my younger cat! OMG she's driving me bonkers...she's in heat and won't stop rubbing on my feet! She follows me around everywhere! I put her outside to find a boyfriend, but she's too freaked out about being outside to continue her "mating ritual"! Can't wait to have the money to get her fixed!

Anyway, sorry about your kitty, may he/she RIP.

I just broke the news to my son. He is making"SLOW DOWN" signs. The mommy kitty "Leggy" and "Fat Butt" didn't come for breakfast. That is typical for Leggy she is the morning lizard hunter. Butt Fat Butt usually is home. So we probably did loose the toe nibbler.

Last night I was irritated at "Fat Butt", and we kept shooing him away, that was about midnight. Wish I hadn't shooed him now.

oh, JB, he's making "slow down" signs...it makes me want to smile and cry at the same time. Smile, cause he's taking action, and hoping to stop another tragedy, cry, because I'm sure his heart is breaking while he writes. Give that boy a big hug for me, okay.

Some people try all their life to get rid of there Fat Butt, yet, I lost mine over night.

:) :( that's funny and sad at the same time. i bet you guys have had a lot of fun with Fatt Butt's name over the years. It sounds to me that "the nibbler" was quite a character. And from your posts, it sounds like he/she was well loved, a part of the family.



JB, How's your son doing? Are his signs up?
And how are you doing? My heart goes out to you cause not only do you mourn for your kitty, you also feel your son's loss, And that's heartbreaking.

JB, our home was destroyed by fire about a year and a half ago. We escaped with no injury, but we lost two cats that night. Our old kitty, Rowdy,the fireman found in the house, she had died from smoke inhalation. We never found the other one.

My son seems fine. Thanks. I think I need to pay him more attention though. His signs died with the rain.
All our cats have silly names. A sudden interest in toe sniffing has taken place today with the other 3 black cats. Hmmmmmm?

Uh, just how much catnip do you give your kitties, JB? just kidding. they must know how much you'll miss Fat Butt doing that.

Silly names for pets: we almost named our dog "Doorstop".

Thanks JB. It was...traumatic to say the least.
But I shouldn't have ended that last post on such a sad note. (I guess it still gets to me sometimes.)

So...on the bright side... We moved back home last week. And even though we haven't finished rebuilding,there's no kitchen at all, and the floors are bare plywood, and we have almost no furniture.and only two light fixtures.....and it doesn't matter...I LOVE BEING HOME! And...we have four 9 week old kittens rampaging through the house!
