View Full Version : tai chi, anyone?
gabriela 06-16-04, 02:31 PM i went to the hospital today, for pt for my bad knee.
i told the pt that i have adhd and add, and asked her if there was any form of pt to help with my overall clumsiness.
she told me that tai chi is *very* good for these problems!
she also told me that they might be starting a tai chi group at the hospital this fall!
i'll *definitely* be in that group, if and when it starts!
:D
anyone in here ever tried tai chi?
:yin-yang:
MightyMouse 07-14-04, 08:27 PM I tried it for a little while and it did help quite a bit, but I just ran out of time to do it and had problems finding a class to join. I really hope you get an opportunity to try it. It was wonderful when I tried it.

FlakeyGirl 07-14-04, 08:30 PM I lead a tai chi group for seniors, with a video. I don't couldn't teach it myself or anything like that. I was just the lifesize example at the front of the class for those who couldn't see the video very well. If they can do it you can do it. It is a thorough workout, at the same time calming.
gabriela 07-15-04, 04:42 AM yeah, i'm really excited about the tai chi thing - hope there *will* be a group starting this fall!
i go to p e twice a week, and it's really helping with my balancing!
I have tried tai chi. I fell in love with it, wish I had the money to contiune the classes. I found that helped with foucsing, it help reduse stress, and if I was able to stay with it longer I believe it would have helped with my cordination too. I hope you have the chance to take tai chi, it is worth it.

VisualImagery 02-19-07, 12:13 AM A dead thread arises from the darkness of cyber-storage.
I just got a Tai Chi DVD and started with the basic movements. I find it very calming, a hard thing for me to do. I would like to take classes, but get embarassed because I am such a klutz and clumsy physically. This way I can become familiar with it first and not feel like a giant nose zit in a class!
The movements I have learned thus far really relieved my back and neck pain. It feels good to do, which means I will probably be motivated to continue doing it!
If anyone else is doing this, share what you learned and how it helps you! Thanks.

Zach326 03-03-07, 12:00 PM I'm not going to get too much in to martial arts here as I tend to get obsessed.
Tai chi has combat elements to it as well - if anyone was wondering.
If your looking for arts with heavy meditation in general you may look to aikido as well
Aikido (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aikido) is somewhat an art of avoidance - clairvoyance even.
The redirection of energy.
Some of these arts are dying because of there lack of practical application to the all popular modern day 'cage fighting"
But the MMA fighters are mainly looking at one aspect of martial arts - the ability to damage your opponent(s).
An aikido (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aikido) expert attempts to avoid harm to himself 'AND' his opponent, sometimes by avoiding him altogether - How cool is that?
That being said though – I love cage fighting – I can’t help it … just love it :D
