I have both Asthma and Allergies. I have what is referred to as Non-Allergic Rhinitis. It can be brought on my changes in temperature, pollution, odors, perfumes, etc. It seems to be worse in the winter time for me and I get this awful hacking cough that will not go away. I have also actually wondered if the coughing and hacking is not Tourettes related in some way because of the way it sounds and the fact that a certain smell or odor can make me anxious, which can bring on breathing problems, and even tics.

I have seasonal allergies and I bet if I ever had tests done they would show several food allergies too.

I too have seasonal allergies. And smoke from a wood fire also bothers me greatly..feel like I can breath. This is a pain because we heat with wood. I do ok if I'm not asleep when hubby opens the wood burner to put wood in and forgets to close our bedroom door b4 hand.

I'm back on Zyrtec..yippee..which means I will be able to enjoy the great outdoors again.:D

I'm allergic to something, but they cant figure it out. I keep telling them its marriage, but they won't listen! No prescription meds work for me anymore, but I have found that Thera-Flu Non-Drowsy Caplets works wonders for me.

Beth has severe asthma.. has to be on 2 different allergy meds 12 hours apart... also has to have an inhaler with her at all times. Running aggrevates this situation and she usually ends up in a severe attack.

Wood smoke, cigarette smoke, dust, pollen, and more all make this situation worse. :(

I have mild athma, no allergies, but I'm hyper-reactive to weather conditions (cold, fog) and viruses (common cold) that'll get me in an asthmatic state for months. In those periods I'm very sensitive to smoke, scents, dust - name it and it'll make me feel sick. Every autumn and winter I'm at home for weeks or months at a time because of this.

Is there a connection with ADD? (Moderator: then I'd like to see asthma and allergies mentioned in the forum of connected syndromes - couldn't find it there, I think it would be good to explore this item more broadly.)

Any information is welkome because ADD combined with astma is ruining my life. O, that sounds very dramatic. I'm having a lot of fun with family and hobbies, so somehow I don't feel like my life is in a rut. But still....

I have seasonal allergies too. I am quite sensitive to tobacco smoke. Milk makes me sick but I can tolerate some once in a while.

I have never heard of any connection between add and allergies.

Cheers! Ian.

I've heard of a conneciton between ADD and psychosomatic illnesses due to raised stress levels. Also hypersensitivities are often attributed to autism spectrum disorders.

In addition many people with allergies suffer with concentration problems, lack of motivation, confusion and heightened distractibility (similar to people suffering with depression etc.) but that should in no way be mixed up with "true" AD/HD. If it goes away from taking allergy medication, it's side-effects of the allergies not AD/HD.

I was told that I had severe asthma as an infant, but had grown completely out of it by ages 8 or 9. The house I grew up in was completely devoid of anything capable of creating this slightest amount of dust; that included any form of stuffed animals or other toys :(. I somewhat think this had something to do with my slowness in learning, since I was told that the simple act of breathing, during infancy, was a constant struggle. It would be interesting to know how many others have had asthma or allergies when they were very young.

I had asthma from allergies as a kid- was very prone to illness and was always getting a bronchial infection of some sort. I grew out of the asthma, thankfully, before I was 10.

My only allergy problems today are:

Artificial Flavorings, artificial colorings, artificial frangrances (like air fresheners and such). They often make my throat sore and give me pains. I get headaches when I eat somehtings like pop-tarts with lots of junk in them.

Harsh chemicals: instant migraines.

Mild photosensitivity- sunlight makes me break out in terrible rashes. It also makes me snappy. This is an adult-onset allergy. Yet hereditary.

But from what I've been reading, except for sunlight, all of these are things that aggravate AD/HD symptoms and are best avoided anyway!

I have or had athsma, accupuncture worked wonders for that! Milk products I think aggravated it.
Tons of food allergies, I mostly just short circut mentally.
Bronchial infections often.
Sinus problems, from mold, mildew and from different foods, perfumes.
I have a "geography tongue" it hurts a lot as many foods cause it to get fissures in it. It's been painfull as of late.
Thats all I can think of for now.
