Rear ended a car and the car just drove away....it was a bump Rear ended a car when I thought my car was sitting still and it was actually moving.....no damage to either vehicle Hit pole and messed up the left front side of my car Was in the medium and got to far out into the road and was struck by another vehicle Then I got rear ended on March 24th. Oh my gosh, more than I thought once I listed all these out. I think I counted 8. I'm really a good driver. I promise Sherry Spirit 04-17-03, 01:03 AM I have been in so many I have lost count. Most of mine involve deer or turkey though. They can do a number on a car. I hit a deer when I was 18 in my 68 Camaro..I bawled for a month over that one. It is my dream car. Most of the car accidents I have been in though, another person was driving. I also lost a fiancee in one in my early 20's..we were in the back seat and going down a country road to a friends house after dark..the driver didn't see the black cattle on the road until it was to late. Almost T-boned someone.... I just got my driver license. I'm 32. Aware of problems I have (but unaware of it being ADD until last year), I was scared to even get behind the wheel. Those above? Well... I got my license three months ago. I scare myself more than I scare others, I think. One last year in January was a complete rollover. I hit a patch of ice near Grand Rapids Michigan on the highway, and rolled the vehicle, both side to side and end to end as it careened into a snow-filled ditch. I trashed the car, ended up upside down in a ditch, hanging by my seatbelt. Amazingly, I walked away from the crash without a single scratch. When it occurred (and I was not a religious person) it felt like there was an invisible hand covering me, protecting me. Glass crashed in the side, and snow and ice, and hit me in the face, knocking my glasses off. Everything I had in the car with me flew all over the field near where I landed, including my laptop bag with laptop (it still works, amazingly), and just about everything I had in my car except my suitcase. The only thing that stayed in the car, it seems, was my cell phone. I remember calling my fiancee from where I was hanging upside down, terrified, wondering if I was going to die. With the help of some wonderful travelers who stopped to see if anyone was alive in the car, I managed to climb out by putting my feet on the steering wheel and climbing out the passenger window. I definitely attribute this crash to my ADD, though, as much as it was the weather. If I had been thinking straight, I would have never ventured out in an ice storm even though I wanted to get home, and I certainly would have paid more attention to the slipperiness of the highway. My daughter's car seat was thrown from the vehicle and was found 15 feet away, and the side of the car where my son sits (you can see it in the photo) was crushed right down to the seat level. That for me was and is the scariest part of the crash. And yes, I bought another Explorer, in case you're wondering. Some people have asked why I would, and wouldn't I be afraid of rolling another one?... but I think that it might have saved my life. That, and the invisible hand I felt protecting me. :) joanrdtobe 05-19-03, 03:05 PM Well, glad you lived to tell about it, show pictures of it, and that you're here today.....(and that your kids weren't with you). :) aforceforgood 06-02-03, 05:01 AM Unreal, here's some food for thought for you; I heard a similar story from 3 utterly honest ladies from my church, one of whom is my Mom, another who's your prototype nice old lady, that they were sitting at a signal facing uphill when a truck coming downhill trying to stop went into an uncontrolled skid, went into the center divider which launched it up into the air and directly at them. We're talking this thing would have landed directly on top of the car they were in, when suddenly the truck WHILE STILL AIRBORNE just went 90 degrees to it's right "like a giant invisible hand" (their exact words) smacked it away from their car. Hard to believe, I know, they didn't believe it themselves, they even turned to each other and asked one another if they had seen the same thing. So if you've ever wondered why the world is in the sorry shape that it's in despite all the prayers asking for a better one, maybe consider how busy God is kept just smacking wayward cars and keeping nice folks like you alive... maybe the state of the world would improve if we rode our bikes more? ;p fasttalkingmom 06-02-03, 12:01 PM I've never been in a car crash, really........... I did have a women hit me once, we where in a rotary. She didn't see me as she tried to make a right turn to get out of the rotary... Not much damage to my car. Paula brianl 07-13-03, 08:37 PM I've been in two, but neither were my fault (both rear-endings)--that's in about 8 years of driving. I've gotten three speeding tickets in that time, and my insurance rates never went up. I did have one stupid incident involving rain and worn out tires. I was going too fast to make a right turn but I didn't realize just how bad the tires were until the point of no return so I decided to go straight, went over the median and THEN made my right turn. Fortunately, there were no cops around and the median was the kind with the angled curb, not the usual kind of curb that will result in needing a tow, front end work and new tires if you hit it at 30MPH (although I needed new tires anyway..) Got new tires and won't be lazy about getting them replaced when they need it from now on. jimmmaaa 07-14-03, 12:55 AM I have been in about 8 or 9 with three of being the rear-ending where nothing is broken and neither party wants to do anything about it. |
