I remember after reading in one of the books describing Adult ADHD about it being common to have lots of traffic violations. Omigod, I immediately went to my driving folder (OCD-kept every scrap of paper I ever generated in driving/liscensing over the years). Counted a total of 32 citations for everything from speeding, stop signs, headlights off, etc. Couldnt believe it! What a strange correlation between ADHD and driving. Big's poll on accidents reminded me about this. Are we bad drivers or something?

Boogie, your excluded from this since your only 13 :-)
But.... my friends son I told you about in another post with OCD/CD, well, he stole his mothers car one day and drove it over a railing and got stuck! He's about the same age as you. So dont be gettin' any ideas about taking Spirits car out for a spin!!!!!

Well...I think I can top that. When I have some more time, I'll post a story about how I got my 4x4 stuck in some trees

LMBO Mark..

I can only hope boogie doesn't take my car out for a spin..if she drives like she rides a bike..I'm in big trouble..;)

Think I'll Hide the keys.

Oh and btw..my ocd works great for my driving..I'm almost 39 and haven't had a moving violation YET!!! I hyper focus when I drive so maybe that's why I haven't gotten any..although I have had numerous accidents involving deers..lmbo To bad they don't have insurance. :D

I got one speeding ticket back 1994 for doing 65 in a 55. It was on a highway and I should have fought it but It was 2 hours from where I lived.

Maybe I should restate the question and base it on what type of ADHD you have? Mine, being the hyperactive kind, may be my link to those infractions. I hyperfocus too, but for me, thats the problem. I get into a steady hum going like 65mph with the sound of the car and feel of the road, and all of a sudden the speed limit changes to 45mph, and I dont see it. Whammo, police car in the rear view mirror.

Or there was my dumbest driving ticket ever:

Officer: "Do you know why I pulled you over, son?"

Mark: "No officer, why?"

Officer: "You just ran that traffic light back there"

Mark: "What traffic light officer?"

My favorite traffic ticket scenerio?

Crissy: Evening Eric ( small town cop)

Eric: Evening, Licence, Registration and Insurance Ma'am

Crissy: Eric, it's me Cris.

Eric: I know, can i see your paperwork? Do you know why I pulled you over?

Crissy: Cuz I was doing seventy in a residential?

Eric (surprised) No...you were?

Crissy needs to learn when to shut up

My last close call I was driving south to Miami for a weekend. On the way I was praying for a brother who was sick in the hospital. I was singing to God, to the humm of the car, whizzing down the interstate.......unaware of my speed. I was intensely into this singing.....and finally got pulled over doing 105 mph. The officer came up and I just smiled and handed him my drivers licence. He said "Do you know how fast you were going?" I said, "I don't know sir, but I know it wasn't the speed limit." He said "try 105", and "I been behind you clocking you for 5 miles." I just winced and said, "oh, that bad? I was unaware of my speed because I was singing... i'm sorry" and I added "Please have a little mercy on me?" he came back to the car and gave me my drivers licence back and said "slow down and drive safely!" That was it! I thanked him profusely and drove the rest of the way, thinking how incredible that I was not hauled off to jail. He even smiled. I was amazed. I figured it had something to do with the fact that I was praying. I'm male! Cops don't normally give guys such a break.

Anyhow, when I was younger, I used to get the ticket of the week. Then a "fraternity" brother who was a cop, gave me a free "get out of a ticket" card. He told me to give it to an officer with my drivers licence and not to say a word. So one day a motorcycle cop was directing traffic and he jumped out in front of my speeding vehicle with the intent of stopping me. Well, I stopped. I stomped on my brakes and came to a stop about 5 feet in front of him. I was in shock that any one could be so stuped as to jump in front of a moving vehicle just to give out a speedin ticket. When he got to my window, I was not polite. I chewed him out and asked him what he thought he was doing, that I could have killed him if I didn't see him or react quick enough! He said "well you shouldnt have been speeding!" I was shocked at the absolute stupidity. I wanted to kill this dumb cop. But he almost died when I handed him my drivers license with the card! He must have turned a shade of green before he said anything. He said something to the extent that I was one lucky SOB....this one on the card was his seargent who assigned his days off. He let me go but assured me my friend would be hearing about it. Well, after that, I never got any more tickets. Once in a great while, every few years, I would get one, but not like the old days. The once a week ticket days stopped with a little luck from my friend. I figured he broke the cycle and since then I have been doing good with tickets. I still drive a biut over the speed limit, but have been fortunate for over 20 years now.

Oh yes, I'm an aggressive driver. I don't like to dilly dally when I have several hundred horse power under me. That defeats the purpose of horsepower.

Oh....I got pulled over once when I had just moved to Houston. I was excited because I had won some Garth Brooks tickets. I had exited the freeway and he got me on the exit. I said I am sorry sir I am new to the area and do not know all the speed limits yet because they change so frequently in Houston. Well, he started to write out a ticket and he said, "My pen quit' and I said well I have one if you would like to use it. I swear guys, this is a true story.

Well, he did not give me the ticket......not did he take my pen.

But I always get tickets for expried inspection stickers and tags. The last one was on March 14 of this year.

I'm only 19 but have been pulled over many times, and have gotten a few tickets. 3 for speeding, and 1 for "failure to yield" - result of a car crash. I think I'm just a bad driver, not sure if it has anything to do with my ADD.

It may sense driving requires impulse control and a selective attention span.

Before medications I would get a ticket about once every three years {just often enough to keep my auto insurance preimums higher} after medications
{"knock on wood} so far so good.

I have been on ADD medications sense 1993. Sense then I got one ticket for a registration that was two years past due {ADD medications does not make me NT} but it wasn't a moving violation so my insurance rates did not go up .

I have combined type ADHD and I have had lots of speeding tickets, minor fender bender accidents, side swipes, poles that foolishly ran into my car, spinouts on gravel, and an episode of hydroplaning 360 degrees on water at 70 mph ending on top of a culvert.

It is a miracle I am alive.

Most of these incidents have involved my car only. Except the side swipes. And the poles.

Of course there are also the countless times of running out of gas or locking my keys in the car. Oh, and parking tickets. A LOT of those. And expired driver's licenses. Fortunately the fine for that is pretty cheap, since I have to pay it every time I renew my license.

Also, once my car was broken down on the side of the road and when I attempted to push it onto the shoulder, I overshot and pushed it off the side of the road, down an embankment, and into a cornfield.

Luckly most of mine arnt on the books.... But i have thrown my car into a ditch, hit a semi backing up, and 2 of my neighbors cars, about a month ago I rearended someone. I have alo gotten parking tickets and running a red light ticket. Ohhh and expired tags.

The person I rearended when he went to get my info, I didnt have my Insurance card in the car, I could only find my expired licence and so they called a cop...My phone was dead so I had to use their phone to call my hubby to get my insurance faxed to him so he could bing it to me. Then when The cop asked me for my registration I couldnt find it, only to notice later I was writing on it. My hubbys car still fainty had "just married" written all over it so I think the people felt sorry for him marrying me "the ditz"...

I don't know exactly what I have (I'm supposed to be bipolar and ADHD is suspected). However I do have a history of moving viloations.

Sometimes I drive extrmemly fast. I have been pretty good for a while and driving a Honda Civic helps since it doesn't go that fast to begin with....but when I was young and stupid, man I got into a lot of trouble with speeding.

My worst speeding ticket was for going 129mph down the Garden State Parkway....up north where the spped limit is 55mph. Well that cost me my driver's license. I was later charged with reckless endangerment, in addition to reckless driving and a five point speeding ticket....Jersey has some pretty high car insurance to begin with, and once I got my license back my insurance was $9,800 a year......

That wasn't the only time I drove like that, it was the only time I got caught though.....

I recently got two speeding tickets like a week apart. One I was going 67mph in a 50mph zone and I flew through a stop sign.....then next one was for going 42mph in a 35mph.....

I didn't fight either of them, and one more skrew up and I lose my license again......
