This is both good and bad news, in that generics usually precede the discontinuation of brand names, which usually precede the discontinuation all together.

I was wondering that my self.

I thought they would discontinue desoxyn brand alltogther. because of no sales , its meth, and instant release.

But was surprised that they added a generic. desoxyn profit was only $9 million last year which may prompt manufacturer to discontinue (knock on wood) based on declining sales only.

those pharma guys just keep you guessing.

awesome ads! The original Adderall formula (Obetrol) contained methamphetamine as the primary/majority amphetamine salt.

Obetrol was first approved by the FDA in the 60 for obesity, however, never became popular, and eventually was not profitable enough to stay on the market. Eventually Rexar Pharmaceuticals sold the Obetrol formula rights to Richwood (now Shire). They changed the name to adderall. It was a racemic mix of dex and levomethamphetamine salts . then changed to dex, and levoamphetamine instead. Desoxyn is not a racemic mix of methamphetamines (like old adderall) or crystal methits only dex-methamphetamine isomer. Thats why its mild in terms of PNS stimulation.

Interesting, if somebody tries the generic please tell how it feels compared to the Brand Desoxyn.

I've heard they have considered not making this drug anymore because of the low profits so I would say I'm pretty surprised anyone would want to enter the generic market.

Desoxyn is expensive for methamphetamine

The majority of illicit superlab product is 96-98% (pharm-grade) dextro-methamphetamine and 10x cheaper

Honestly, considering the popularity & availability of meth, i don't see how Desoxyn is worth manufacturing.. as i haven't tried Desoxyn, i'd assume the only way to make it somewhat profitable is to add a bunch of binders to the pills &/or make them slow-release - altho i've heard that doing a cold-water extraction of the 10mg pills leaves you with the pure methamphetamine crystals, i obviously have no way to validate this claim

Having said that, my brain works twice as well on meth as on d-amp. In particular meth is much more calming than d-amp is, so it allows my mind to slow down further.. while d-amp keeps my thoughts in order but doesn't necessarily slow them down a great deal or expand my learning capacity

It'd be great to have Desoxyn if i had insurance to cover it, tho i can't imagine what sort of insurance would cover it. It'll be interesting to see what people think of the generic... hopefully they don't mess it up like they did dexedrine a few years back

Thank you for that info. I stand corrected :)

My doctor had mentioned the similarities between dexedrine and desoxyn. I am on Vyvanse, currently prescribed dexedrine but it is on manufacturer back order. Even generics aren't carried by the pharmacies I visited. I may be looking for alternatives or back to Vyvanse again. I think the politics here is Vyvanse is on the front page/mainstream while others are on the back burner. Wait till Evekeo blows Vyvanse out of the scene. Out of curiosity, since this thread is old, is Desoxyn still available as generic or brand or not? From what I understand, Lundbeck is the sole manufacturer of Desoxyn? Is Desoxyn covered by Medicaid and is there a way for me to find it easily which pharmacy would have it considering I have a hard time finding dexedrine sulfate, I would think Desoxyn is a harder find.

Josh, $9 million in sales for 1 drug that's a controlled substance and the majority of the public has no idea prescription meth even exist, is no joke. That's good sales right there. Consider the inhaled insulin that came out last year from Mannkind Pharmaceuticals only had about $1 million in sales yet there's more diabetics in the world than people with ADHD yet the company is still not shelving the product. I need new updates about Desoxyn, is it only available as brand now or is the generic available? Is it covered by Medicaid?
