For those of you who take prescription meds, how long did it take you after the initial diagnosis to start meds?

For me, just long enough to get the prescription filled! I didn't wanna be bonkery anymore!

Do you mean how long did it take for the doctor to prescribe the meds or for us to decide we were going to try medication?

I was diagnosed nearly two years before I became willing to try the meds.

I always thought psych meds were stupid. I was 40 (this year) before I considered the concept then I delved into it willingly and had no luck with stimulants and wellbutrin... still thinking antidepressants were for dopes and too dangerous. Within several months I was willing to try Effexor and it's been a significant help but perhaps not ideal. I still don't like the idea of staying on them forever but think it's worth experimenting to find the right mix.

After my diagnosis I started meds as soon as I could find a doctor to prescribe them. Which I think was a week or two.

About a week........I wanted to take it on the weekend when I wasn't working to see how it effected me.

Pretty much after the diagnosis....I feel as if the doctor presented me with my problem...and he was wanting to start doing something about it right away...so why argue with him? He was right....I've never regretted the meds....:)
