I just registered for next semester, full time rather than 3/4s. Am I a freak for being excited?

Ehhh, as to whether you are a freak or not, it all depends on the perspective you choose to view yourself. Therefore, if you conclude you are a freak, be excited that you are a freak becuase that's awesome! Congrats on bumping up to full time. I hope it goes really well for you. :)

i have a date this weekend. ALL i want is my ex bf back but I just have to live with that now.

So... when I went through my really down/pretty much depressed stage after the 4 year relationship I was in ended... I might have taken a little bit of comfort in knowing that "love" has a connection to neurotransmitters, and I was just experiencing withdrawal symptoms from the sudden drop in those neurotransmitters.

But, I'm sciencey minded, and for some reason, explaining what I was feeling on a physical level made me feel better. Take it for what it's work ;)

First random fact: I organized things today!

I get to go shopping tomorrow for make-up (usually I stock up when in the US, but someone said they sell my brand in a particular shop, so I'm going to check it out) which meant that I wanted to clear up the dresser where I keep my makeup. I also had hair stuff and lotions and medicines and confiscated kids' toys and random photos and copies of passports and a DVD in there. It now has just makeup and hair things.

In clearing that up, I had to clear out the cupboard above, which had some vitamins and a couple of dresses and kids' medicines and some craft stuff and a little bag of baby lotions and shampoos. That now has medicines.

So I also had to go in the other room where the medicines are kept, and empty out that box and re-sort things so they would fit in our room. Then I could use the former medicine space to store fabric that was overflowing my fabric box.

The fabric box still needs to be sorted, and the arts and crafts cabinet looks like it threw up, but other than that---I got a lot done!

Second random fact: I have a hard time writing short posts. It's like I'm cutting off my arm or something every time I try and shut up already.

Buddy-- different music style, but same era-- I just finished Kristin Hersh's (Throwing Muses, 50Foot Wave) bio called "Rat Girl". It's more of a slightly fictionalized memoir of her life at 19-- momentous things happening in her life, the band on the cusp of making it. It's really good, too. The chapters are interspersed with song lyrics and childhood memories- and her writing style is humorous and quirky-- all things I appreciate in a memoir. :) It still took me forever to read it, but I read the whole thing.

RF: I love bios and memoirs. I used to feel weird about that, but since I've adopted my mid-life "whatever" attitude, I don't anymore. :p

My hubs 2 fave bands are Guns 'n Roses. and Metallica. We saw G n R in the early 90's. Axel was having a meltdown during the show and kept leaving the stage.

"Those parallel circumstances and kindred images to which we readily conform our minds are, above all other writings, to be found in the narratives of the lives of particular persons; and therefore no species of writing seems more worthy of cultivation than biography, since none can be more delightful or more useful, none can more certainly enchain the heart by irresistible interest, or more widely diffuse instruction to every diversity of condition." -Samuel Johnson

I camped out in the snow for six days, up in Oregon. I was the only camper/hiker left! Only the ranger and his dog were still around.

There were natural hot springs, and tubs with fresh water from the springs for soaking in the hot, mineral water. No roof on the area with tubs. That was really cool, to sit there, while snow was falling, soaking in the hot tubs!

This is a silly question... were you scared? Being out there alone? I love to hike - nothing like Mt. Kilamanjaro or anything.. mostly The White Mountains, The Rockies, places like that. When I see the signs on the trails saying things like "people have died here"... It scares me... it doesn't stop me but it scares me and makes me afraid that I have forgotten something...

My guess is that your answer will be "no". Good for you - what an amazing vacation!!!!!

I'm attempting to make a pumpkin pie.The first one I made has cracks all over the surface.I guess the only thing to do with that one is to eat it today. It tastes really good, but it looks awful.I'm going to try again but if the cracks are on this one, I'm going to put whipped cream on top & call it a pumpkin cream pie.

I want to be asleep, but I am awake because I have a steamed pudding on the stove. It needs to be there until at least midnight. I'm going to get out of my nice warm bed in half an hour to go to the icebox kitchen, turn off the electric burner (gas doesn't go low enough) and then turn the water heater back on (it can't be on at the same time as the oven).

that's what adderall does to me! vyvanse more so!
i dont do adderall on weekends, school breaks, or summer unless i absolutely need it for whatever reason arises (example, on a saturday due to ACT). but working out 3-4 times a week boosts metabolism and makes me hungry despite the effects of adderall (whether hunger arises due to adderall having worn off about 2 .5-3 hours ago or because working out does make you hungry).

after seeing StoicNate's post about classes in college, it rekindled my fear of the unknown as to what college is. i know it's 100% different than highschool (maybe like 90% different from mine since my highschool is a college prep place and actually does help people according to many a graduate), but i dont want to lose and become lost in college!!!

Formaldehyde makes me sick. When my sister was in honors biology in high school, she had to dissect a cat as homework for a week. She took the thing back and forth from school for a week, and did her work on the kitchen counter. I hid out in my room the whole time...

Formaldehyde didn't bother me until then. I think it's more of an association thing than a problem with the actual smell.

Then again, air fresheners give me a migraine...

She had to do that *at home*??!! We weren't allowed to take ours home . . . we had to do the dissections at school . . .

There was one time I had to be let out of class early, but the teacher wasn't cooperating with my request and pass, so I walked out of the class wearing my apron, goggles, and carrying my scalpel, to the other teacher who was sponsoring the out of school event. . . apparently the kids in his class were taking bets on whether, upon my return, I would be dissecting the cat or the bio teacher.

Sounds like some exercise would do you well.

It would. At home, when I would get like this, I would run up and down the stairs for an hour or two until the extra energy went away. Here I can't do that and it's driving me nuts. I tried yoga, but it did nothing for me. Too much sitting still and breathing.

I'm listed in the IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1128971/) database as part of the production crew... one when I was 14, and the other when I was 20.

A good portion of my family members are listed there too. (also see: La Carpa García (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carpa_Garcia) on Wiki and on a few other sites) I started helping out a rather distant relative whose relation tracks back to having the same great-great grandfather.

I'm so frustrated it's making me sick. The CD that I had to pay thirty extra dollars for the super fast shipping was lost in the mail. Apple's replacing it, but I needed that CD tonight so I could study for my test tomorrow. The test I'm very worried about failing. This feels like the most frustrating week of my life.

Hang in there Offle....

It absolutely drives me NUTS that no one in my house can pick up anything or put something back where it belongs. I went to find a missing lid for a saucepan. It should have been hanging up on the pot rack with the saucepan that it goes with. Where it's been hanging for the past 8 years. Where is it? In the drawer with the baking sheets  I mean, really? Whoever put it there had to first hang up the saucepan that goes with the lid and then put the lid in a separate place....smh....*sigh*

Aw, boo....:( Hope you feel better soon.

I have been trying to get all of the holiday stuff out of the way and it's left ZERO time for me or for me to do anything else. I'm STILL not done. The stores don't have anything decent. It seems like things are more expensive but cheaply made (REALLY? $150.00 for a pair of 'leatherette' boots??), nothing is in stock, people are obnoxious and rude and I'm running out of patience.

Very sad because I usually love this time of year. I haven't even listened to any holiday music.

OMG. What I've said in this post has made me realize---I've officially become my mother. :(

This was my final for my synthetic methods of organic chemistry II. (a 900 level chemistry class). This will be the only class I've ever actually unsatisfactorily completed.

Oh noes....:( I'm so sorry.

Wait, did you get your score or are you speculating? Will you get another shot at it?

I got the results back. Despite it being the only class I have ever unsatisfactorily completed, it bumps my GPA 5 hundredths of a point below the minimum, which results in probation. Since probation results in loss of scholarship and my teaching position, and the benefits that came along with the teaching position, I'm kind of significantly in a bind. I actually probably just lost well more than $17k, but figuring in all the "un-priced" benefits (health insurance, tuition waivers etc,) would be just too depressing.

The professor gave me advice that was very ineffective, and that's about it. Despite talking with classmates, labmates, other random chemists around etc..., no one really wanted to pay much attention to help out.

I'm pretty sure they are absolutely not flexible on the GPA requirement. I got a "C" in the class, therefore I "failed the class" meaning I'd have to retake it, but no problems if my GPA didn't drop below the threshold. I know there is no chance I can get it bumped up to a "B", so I'm out of luck there. I don't know that there is any formal procedure for me to petition the graduate school though to grant me one semester to deal with this, considering the extensive list of external road blocks that I've had this year.
