Watching iCarly and the episode is about pranking. Long time ago, I was in vocational school studying graphic arts. (I actually stuck with it and graduated! But I never felt confident enough to do it. How'd I graduate? I don't think I learned enough.) In the graphic arts class, we were scheduled to watch something from the tv. Before the teacher came in the room, I traded the tape with an Elvis Presley's movie. Teacher loved Elvis. So instead of watching our regular thing, we watched Viva Las Vegas. Another time I brought in our remote control and programed it to the tv. She'd turn it on and I'd turn it back off from where I was sitting. I liked that class though I didn't learn much. Outdated now anyway. Sweet little quiet Tara. No one suspected me.

Ok, I'm sweet (I guess) but not little. I like that phrase even though it wasn't true. Easier for practical joking people if no one suspects you, right? My problem is keeping a straight face though. I laugh way too easily and have the guiltiest looking face. I really wish I had the pretend innocence to go with it....

We watched America's Funniest Videos (well, AFV....whatever) and I really wished I had some stuff on video! In 1990 or so my family and I were on vacation and we were at Sea World. We had our video camera with us but of course it wasn't focused on me! (the ONE time I wish it was). I went over to the food stand to purchase a basket of fish for the seals. Animal food stand. Since this is an old memory, I could be a little sketchy on those details. I was walking back to the seals (or whatever animal) holding the basket and suddenly it disappeared! I wish I would've seen my face! A seagull had swooped down and grabbed the whole darn thing! That definately would've been on AFV!!!! If I could go back on time, I'd probably go back to that moment and have my parents film me.

I've learned to keep a straight face. I played poker for a number of years as a source of income while in college, and studied it like crazy. I think it helped me learn to conceal the "guilty face" a little bit better than I used to be able to at least.

My students often can't tell that I'm being completely sarcastic, so after a little bit of the "awkward pause" I break face and they finally catch on. It's kind of funny watching their reactions sometimes. :D

But yeah, with pranks, I definitely had so many crazy things that I did in college. Then I was usually able to gauge whether someone found it funny or not, and then decide whether to fess up. A few things I have remained 100% silent about to this day.

First time I seen Titanic was at an I-Max theater in Branson, Missouri on vacation. As theaters usually are to me, it was cold. Perfect setting. And I think there was an intermission. First time I've had one during a movie.

I remember when I was working at a party goods store (in the Halloween costume section), a little girl said she wanted to marry Jack. Her mom asked who Jack was. "From Titanic!"

Another Titanic tidbit (since I'm on a roll here), I just read a book called Titanicat. It was a little kids' book and it was pretty good. Great graphics. And supposedly it's based on a true story.

Oh! One more! When the movie was huge and I had a hoarse voice, it was fun to say, "Jack! Jack!" I sounded like Rose then.

Ever since I did a report in school on the Zodiac Killer I have been fascinated. I can't help to think that either the one's that never get caught or don't get caught for years are truly geniuses. Granted they are sick in the head as well.

I do also think about: what if those people used their intelligence for good.

What if they just had the right direction in life or help they needed what they could have done with their lives. (I guess I have empathy for them)

I can look back and say this was a hyperfocus time in my life. When I started learning about the Zodiac Killer I just had to find out EVERY last bit of information I could about him. To the point that I probably let everything else in my life go at the time.
And once in a blue moon something will come up in the news about him, and I'll get all focused on it again (but not like I did when I was in school).

The "crazy" mind is very interesting. And sad at the same time. Because I am pretty sure they call some down to mental illness not treated.

If you've never seen it I heard Dexter is really good. He's a serial killer that works as a dead body examiner that kills the people that murdered the people he looks at. Really interesting stuff I've heard. Never watched it.

I am interested more in the back story to these people. How and why that led up to the events that made them murders.

I used to think I only liked Leonard Cohen when I was drunk; turns out it's not so. So, either I was always mistaken or I'm becoming a less wicked person. Plato would probably tell me that if I'm going to go listening to Leonard Cohen, I'd better temper that with some karate lessons or something. (Too much music makes you soft, too much 'gymnastic' makes you thuggy)

But never mind that: I don't want karate lessons. It's too much money and I hate wearing weird nudist-feeling clothes around a bunch of strangers in a boomy gymnasium.

Even still... I see guys wear pink and pastels a lot... perhaps its cuz I'm int he SF Bay area?:D

I recognize (from experience) bad choices my (step) brother in law keeps making. And I said something to him because it seems no one else will (that's the way my husbands side of the family deals with things. Let's talk about it behind his back and hope it stops, but not say anything to his face).

And now my brother in law (he's 33) is upset at me apparently and told his mother (my husbands stepmother) who posted something rude to me publicly on Facebook. I haven't talked to her in almost 2 years - for no other reason than we just aren't close. And I don't know why my brother in law couldn't have said something to me himself.

So let's just keep coddling him and hope he finds another job (he has child support to pay for 3 kids (2 different moms) and doesn't produce another kid with this new woman he is dropping his job and life for and moving a few states away.

I'm just going to keep my suggestions and opinions to myself about him from now on. I hope his pattern changes, but I can recognize what is going on, and I don't see that happening. But that's ok with the rest of his family, as long as he's not upset.

I would, but I can't afford it. I can afford one or the other. And really, I shouldn't be able to afford either, but because my SO's mom enables him to lay around the house and play his online game (not WOW, btw...) and not do anything, I put it on myself to do all the house work, yet can't bring myself to get a job because I'm scared sh*t-less (of failing again).

Hahaha! Um...Idk...I've been using it since middle school at least. It means to grab something, steal something, real quick. It's kind of the noise you make when you do it. Like if you had a pencil on your desk and I wanted to borrow it; As long as we were pretty close buddies, I'd be all like "*YOINK*" and run off...

Idk...Guess just a slang term.

"An exclamation that, when uttered in conjunction with taking an object, immediately transfers ownership from the original owner to the person using the word regardless of previous property rights."

This is a really complicated problem, and you're right, I need to find a therapist. I just don't even know where to look.

Fletcherface, there are quite a few websites that help people locate therapists nearby. Too bad I'm not in north FL. One of the facilities I work at is for the uninsured and underinsured, anyone who just can't normally afford therapy, and those who otherwise would just "slip through the cracks." The most anyone pays is $20 per session, and we reduce that fee as necessary.

Here are some sites that might potentially help you locate a therapist. I've set the links to open to the sites' FL pages.

http://www.networktherapy.com/directory/therapist_results.asp?c3=FL (http://www.networktherapy.com/directory/find_therapist.asp?gclid=CNbX3_z6z6cCFQxl7AodMDFOG A)

http://therapists.psychologytoday.com/rms/state/Florida.html

http://www.findcounseling.com/florida/

http://www.goodtherapy.org/florida-therapist.htm

http://therapists.find-a-therapist.com/florida.aspx

Hope this helps. I'm not sure if you've ever been in therapy before, but if you don't like the first therapist you see, go ahead and try someone else, and keep trying until you find someone you can work with. We're all human, with different personalities, approaches, etc. The last two counselors I saw were very nice, but their personalities and approaches didn't match what I needed, so I'm still looking.

I don't have insurance either, so I understand where you're coming from on the cost. But numerous facilities and individual therapists offer treatment on a sliding scale. It would be worth looking into, anyway.

Let me know how it goes.

The problem with wearing pink and pastel colored shirts is that not many men can pull it off. I know only a couple people that have worn these type of shirts, mainly because they're secure with their sexuality (btw, they're straight). I have a purplish-looking button down shirt and honestly it looks pretty darn good on me.

Bio, I think it's because we, "bay-destrians", have a little more sense of swagger. "ya-da-da-mean"

So I guess what I'm trying to say is....

"If you can't rock it, don't wear it." - that's my rule of thumb

C8H10N4O2
03-15-11, 09:03 AM
I used to "rock" the pink and purple attire back in high school and college. I don't anymore mainly because I tend to wear more earth tone colors or a bit of red more than anything else now. I still have my pastel pink polo, but I think I've probably "outgrown" it unfortunately. And yeah, I wore the colors on dates with my former girlfriend and everything for years.

I can't sleep when it's stuffy and muggy.

I cant sleep when the window isn't open. I'm willing to deal because my boyfriend is feeling Ill-- starting to pass a kidney stone.

I can't sleep because I was honest with a friend and feel too freed to be tethered asleep.

I heart huckabees is an excellent demonstration of life as I saw it as a kid. I'm glad the blanket truth is beginning to be more and more apparent. Existential depression sucks.

I hate being in catch 22s. My friend reminded me of the conclusion to all pointlessness : to obey ancient callings to uphold and foster the world she wants. The catch22 doesn't exist so the snake can eat it's tail, but for flexibility of perception depending on situation---a straight line circle sometimes.

My friends are dealing w/ a sexual harassment issue and I'm proud that they want to speak out against the historical pattern of abuse they've uncovered.

I am starting to agree "mental clarity is the child of courage, not he other way around.". And that people start to die without a heroic bent and that the unexamined life is a waste.

I am trying to make what I need and what I want to be the same; the subtle and sometimes drastic differences make life confusing.

The first interaction a friend remembers having with me was asking me for advice. She was conflicted over TA evaluations because she wanted to write one for the awesome sub TA not the actual TA. Apparently I told her she should write just that and also make sure to tell the sub-TA. From what I know it sounds like me.

I have waited for an answer to "where can we meet" for months. It dawned on me that I was told a month or more ago. I was surprised that she didn't realize that she answered my question either, but now sees.

Grizzly peak, Tilden overlooking the bay we watched the sun go down and lights start to twinkle on bridges that span life times. Common ground, a meeting place.

I love trees, and I cry when people cut them down. Especially the large ones. :(

I do too. Tree's have a soul (in my eyes). They are energy and life. And when a tree is cut down for reasons other than it is already dead - it makes me sad.

My family runs tree farms and I grew up on one. They plant hundreds of acres of pine trees and every 20 years they cut them and re-plant more. Though, I definitely disagree with unnecessary tree cutting (especially when they aren't replanted). ;)

Interestingly, it's been about 20 years since they've planted the last ones. I can't believe it's time already, though they're leaving the 5 acres in front of the house for privacy...They're so pretty. I used to love running through the rows of pine trees as a kid. We made forts in between them and had a million adventures. I'll be sad to see them gone, but happy to see the new ones grow! http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/9894/laughp.gif

Personally, I find that it's not necessarily waiting, but just being active in things you like to do. Though, maybe you already are... For example, if you like a certain genre of music, try to go to local shows. Get active in the community and volunteer, you meet a lot of people that way. It's all about meeting new people, in my opinion, not just waiting. And I don't think they mean to just "wait", I think they're trying to say "be patient". Which I know is hard to do. ;) Idk if any of this advice helps, but I guess I kinda know how you feel (well, did know how you feel). Though, it's better to wait and find the right person that fits with you than to be in a loveless relationship, honestly. I hope you feel better. {{hugs}}

It's not just waiting, it's also being open and not categorizing someone as a go or no go based off the first couple interactions (e.g. I met this friend at jui jit su class, so they're only forever a classmate & friend -- have to think about different people at different levels to see opportunity).

That's pretty awesome. I can't think of too many situations that couldn't apply.

My March Madness bracket is already hosed, but until Louisville lost, I hadn't missed a game yet. I think I'm wrong on two now so far.

But, for a random fact...

I hadn't watched a single division 1 college basketball game (and probably only 5 or so women's division II games) before my freshman year of college. I entered a residence life pool that had well over 100 people entered into it (free but with some pretty nice prizes), and I totally took first place. I've never even gotten close to the top of a pool since.

and i had a heck of a torturous track practice today. we did this exhausting rendition of the bleachers dril (about a mile and a half every three circuits) and did two rounds, three circuits each with inly a 2 minute break in between and had to do booth in less than fifteen minutes!!! i wanted to die. theres a reason i chose to be a sprinter and a reason i hated cross country practice. those hills totally destroyed me. I was so ****ed when Leonardo Dicaprio did Titantic.

I remember going to the movie theater in 1993, I was going into 4th grade. I came out of that theater stunned at his performance. Two years afterwards, trying to kill time, I snuck into a showing of the "Basketball Diaries". I was stunned to see the actor who I knew as Arty from What's Eating Gilbert Grape. I knew I didn't understand Basketball Diaries, but I also couldn't stop watching, I knew it needed wrestling with.

It began obsession with actors, directors, etc. I seriously think if I never saw those two movies, I'd not be OCD about remembering every body's name, every movie ever body's done... seriously. I got a smart phone specifically so I could look that **** up easily.

I rented This Boy's Life my dad took a cursory glance and said "Oh yeah! DeNiro! That's all right!" (and yes, I rented Taxi Driver (then began Jody Foster phase, thank god she's not got the breadth DeNiro does), Dear Hunter, Raging Bull, etc).

I rented Total Eclipse. To get it past my dad I said "Hey, it's got the actor from What's Eating Gilbert Grape and David Thewlis from Black Beauty." Oh boy, I certainly didn't know what I was in for...

Basically as long as a movie wasn't French my dad didn't give a crap -- I fell in love with cinematography by watching French films and learned about sex being a part of life rather than disconnected, defamed, and overridden with taboo and violence.

I even went to see "Marvin's Room" for Diane Keaton, Meryl Streep and was surprised to find Leo with a small role.

I could forgive Leo for Baz Luhrmann's "Romeo & Juliet." Even though it was mainstream -- it was still Shakespeare and I wanted to see what Claire Danes could do other than Angela from My So-Called Life (she hasn't really panned out : / but, Mia Wasikowska seems to have the Claire Danes appeal, but is actually soft and STRONG. Man I was floored by her in true grit, and am now excited to see Jane Eyre -- seriously, the director & cinematographer did Sin Nombres -- beautiful movie). The movie came and went fall of 7th grade -- hardly noticed.

Then... then... with the buildup of Titanic... I had teeny bopping friends calling me up saying, "Will you explain Romeo & Juliet to me?" etc. Oh...! I wanted to kill them all... They were making sacred into profane!

Most of all... Leonardo Dicaprio... made my teenage life hell by doing a movie pubescent girls would swoon over WHILE I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE ONE OF THEM, because... it made it impossible to actually just be an appreciative fan.

Ugh.

yeah um...that sounds a bit like me. Night of the Living of Dead, Night of the Creeps, Amityville, Re-Animator, Creepshow, Evil Dead, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari to really low budget horror films.

Actually, my oldest sister and her friend would watch tons of really scary films at night in pitch black. I was just around 8-10 years old. We'd watch Nightmare on Elm street (all of them), Friday the 13th(all of them), Chucky (all of them), Tales from the Crypt (every episode), Stephen King stuff, Halloween - Mike Myers, Alien (all of them) etc. The worst part about it was that the area we lived in got very dark and creepy at night. The nearest light post was 5 miles away...its probably why I'm so used to watching these types of films.

One of my freshman college roommates was like..."Andy, you watch the weirdest s*** (obviously he couldn't say it when he was sober)" We just LAWL at each other.

I just laughed and admitted it. I was a horror movie buff for 2 straight years. I couldn't get enough of it. Classic horror, morbid films were the best.

But I haven't watched a horror film in a while. But I did watch Young Frankenstein (horror satire), not too long ago

I don't plan on watching horror films any time soon....

I really wanted to figure Linux out so I could be an uber-nerd, but after 8 hours straight trying to figure it out, it just made me angry...http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/3659/boredn.gif

Yeah, the first time I worked with it, I spent every night after classes devoting all my time to it for around a week and a half before I finally threw in the towel. This time though, it seems like a lot of relatively necessary things are already taken care of, leaving the system functioning overall a lot better from the beginning. So then it comes down to getting having all the necessaries already up and running, and being able to move onto the "medium" priority things. I might not make it past that set of things though. We'll see. I hope I can. I'd like to minimize my reliance on windows, and I'm definitely not an apple person. (I feel like one of the very few who can legitimately say I've never purchased an apple product...I won an ipod back in college, but gave it away.)

Edit: Haha, speaking of towel, I just realized I have probably a half dried load of towels in my dryer. Oh adhd...

I went through the same exact thing when Linux first came out. Even put together a seperate computer to work with it, ended up saying F this and never touched it again.

For the record, I'll still think your an uber-nerd even without the Linux knowledge. :p

So, I went on this date with an NT and somehow this ADD thing came up. Concerning memory, she said, "you remember what you want to remember." That will be our last date.

Everyone is perfect the way they are, and can use improvement.

Did she explain her comment? Either or, hope there was other stuff for not being willing to go out on another date. 2 hrs of a day for an activity isn't that long in the grand scheme of things:)

I like coffee shops on the weekends, especially on rainy days.

I like aviator sun glasses. I bust out the yellow ones on cloudy days that have flat light from all directions. I've been compared to Hunter S. Thompson by friends. That confused me until I looked in the mirror.

I hope that biophelia will tell me what this means. I don't know how someone can be perfect as they are and need improvement.

Not-so-random fact: I have no idea what an "NT" is, and I wish someone would explain it to me.

Let me elaborate why seeking an explantion wouldn't be worth my time.

Ok. This all happened in our first date. She told me that she had HPV, but that it was gone (thank God for that:rolleyes:). She told me that she had a very permiscuous past.

Jumping in here.....HPV is VERY common and at least 50% of people sexually active have or had it (and some stats show that up to 80% of sexually active adults over 40 have/had it). Your body can usually fight it off itself depending on the strain, and there are many strains of it. It can also live dormant in your body your entire life, or if your immune system were to become compromised, it could flare up.

It's kinda like - Mononucleosis - about 95% of adults have been infected by it (even if you didn't know it) and it lives in your body dormant.

Reason I know all this is because of the new Gardasil vaccine. They want to give it to girls in their teenage years to prevent HPV. But it is not guaranteed to do so since there are so many strains. It is a risky vaccine that can do more damage than good. And knowing that your body can fight HPV itself, why take the chances of making your kid sick. (but that is all my opinion). I will not let my daughter get it.

ANYWAY.....I'm gonna say that if you had sex with 5 women in your life, you've been exposed to it at least once. It rarely effects men anyway. ;)

Ok ok. First of all, I did not know how common HPV is. I've heard from several sources that it is. However, it was scary as h*** for someone to report that on the very first date which made me consider if I could contract this thing.

Random fact: I don't know how ArtGypsy would know that I may have been exposed to it! I've never had sexual contact in my life.:p
