Do you have to still go to a Physiatrist for Meds or can you go to a family doctor it would be cheaper and closer? Starting a new job money will be tight and insurence won't kick in for another 3 months.

Nucking_Futs 07-11-04, 08:50 PM I think that if you mention an original dx to your family doctor and give him the name and contact information of the doctor who dx'd you...he/she would probably write a prescription without even contacting the original doctor. As a med passer be sure and let your doctor know what meds you do take (even self meds). I have a really bad feeling that is not going to make sense. irish guy 07-11-04, 09:16 PM Do you have to still go to a Physiatrist for Meds or can you go to a family doctor it would be cheaper and closer? Sly 07-12-04, 12:09 AM Cool thanks Nucking I am tired of physiatrist I know what worked but they try and start me off on some anti-depressant and I ended up losing a job over it last time I was so out of it. Plus the expense I just want someone to prescribe me either Ritalin which I was on before or possibly adderal. I don’t know if I will tell them about the recovery thing they handle me with kid gloves if I do. I don’t even drink never really had to go to the doctor for anything besides stitches. Thanks Irish guy I will have to get a copy of my DX from the psychiatrist. I wonder if anyone else has had experience with psychiatrist trying a bunch of different meds before trying what works. I just can’t go through all that again. Ron Wheezie 07-12-04, 12:46 AM my idiot psychiatrist wanted to take me off of wellbutrin (which is working great)because he thought i wasn't sleeping in part because of the medication. i had called him to ask about drug interactions with ambien. he just didn't *listen* when i *told him why i wasn't sleeping!* -- i don't sleep well when i am in a very stressful situation and i was in a *very* high stress situation. he kept saying that i needed to come in right away so i could get off the wellbutrin. all i needed was to sleep! anyway, it's a long story. the short version is, i never went back to him. i found a good family doctor who was comfortable prescribing both my meds (wellbutrin and dexedrine) and i'm living happily ever after. ;) --this has been a very recent change. i'm just getting my scripts from the new doctor filled tomorrow. i'm so relieved she agreed to handle my meds bacause i couldn't deal with finding a psychiatrist who "gets it." good luck. wheezie Sly 07-12-04, 12:57 AM I am with you it seems that psychiatrist like to experiment or something mean while my life is falling apart. Thats exactly what I did I quit seeing him and was so frustrated about it I am just now trying to get back on meds 6 months later. fasttalkingmom 07-12-04, 01:21 AM I think that if you mention an original dx to your family doctor and give him the name and contact information of the doctor who dx'd you...he/she would probably write a prescription without even contacting the original doctor. I agree with Nucking_Futs. At one time this is what I did..... Nucking_Futs 07-12-04, 10:34 AM My doctor kept putting me on this anti depressant and that anti depressant each one making me more and more depressed until I scared even my husband...I finally said enough is enough and started following a lot of the Behavioural Management program that we use for our kids and working out a lot more and well isn't that a miracle I'm not depressed anymore...IDIOTS I tell ya....lol no not really but I've taken control of MY medical needs...MY body MY decision. |
