My son who is eight is taking strattera. He started on it in March at 15 mg and now in July is up to 60 mg. The doctor said this is as high as we can go with him. (He weighs 50 lbs.)

My question is does it ever end, this upping and upping of dosage? It seems like he does so well for a month or two and then it stops working. This has happened with each med he has tried.

Is anyone else having this happen with their child?

Your thoughts and comments are most appreciate. :)

From my experince and from my research on Strattera, it only helps about 50% of the people that are on it. The other 50% get no effect from it.

Also, unlike the traditional stimulant meds used to tread ADD, Strattera takes a while to build up in the body, up to 5 weeks! If you see results in the first few days, chances are that it is something other than the Strattera that is causing them.

I have to periodically increase my kids meds simply because their needs change (later bed-time) and their metabolism changes. Apparently children often need more medication that adults because of the way they metabolise it so maybe there's some hope that your son could decrease the meds as he gets older.
