View Full Version : How to find a good doctor (D.C. area)?
sceneit 08-25-10, 02:44 PM I was diagnosed with ADD in 2002 and have been taking adderall for over seven years. I just moved to the Washington D.C. area and need to find a new doctor.
Does anyone know of any good doctors for prescribing add medication in the D.C. area?
Also, does anyone have any tips or strategies for finding a good doctor?
I don't have health insurance so price is a factor.
Thanks for any help.
:)

stealthology 09-30-10, 03:53 PM Hey Jeff,
I'm in the Annandale/Fairfax area. I would really appreciate any referrals from docs/psych's who you know are good.
Thanks!
Dan
Sure thing. I'll PM you....
Hey Jeff,
I'd appreciate good psychiatrist recs as well. Seeking someone who really knows their stuff when it comes to meds.
TIA!

CARTER69 12-10-10, 06:48 PM Hello, I'm new to this forum and basically asking the same thing. I live in Fairfax, have insurance that doesn't pay for much of anything. My GP says that he will write Adderall prescriptions for me provided I find a Psychiatrist or ADD Specialist who thinks that is warranted in my case.
I took the similar tests at a doctor's office 6 years ago and online recently and received both times a score of 64 suggesting that I have moderate ADD. So I'm thinking my next step is to find an affordable doctor in the Fairfax area who can begin to help me. I'm basically way too easily distracted.
Thanks, Carter

Hi Jeff,
I've been looking for a psychiatrist to evaluate ADD.
The doctors I've called are pretty expensive. Do you know of anyone in the Fairfax, VA area who is not overly expensive? My insurance is good for hospital but doctors visits just go against the deductible. Thanks, Carter
CARTER69 01-12-11, 09:30 PM :( I saw a psychiatrist and provided him the documentation I'd gathered that I thought relevant to help him evaluate me for ADD. He seemed to think that I do have ADD. He wrote me a prescription for Adderall. The pharmacy filled it for mixed amphetamine salts. The doctor had said to me, look if Adderall make your heart race or gives you headaches you can't take it. So I tried my first mini dose to begin the titration routine and I got a headache, Does this mean that I shouldn't take the drug at all, or that the generic is the problem or something else? Do most people get minor headaches at first or does that mean there is something wrong with my personal wiring?
I work in downtown DC and I have been looking for a good P-Doc and cannot find someone who specializes in adults with attention issues.... Can SOMEONE direct me?? My insurance is CareFirst but I'll go out of network at this point:(

Liquidsky22 09-14-12, 01:10 AM Has anyone had any luck? I'm in the same boat (just moved to nova, need a new general practitioner that will prescribe ADHD meds- have been taking them for 7 years) but I do have insurance so price is not a factor. Thanks.
UnfocusedEnergy 09-20-12, 02:32 PM I'm in the northern va area as well, and also need to find a doctor. I can go to dc or md if necessary, but don't want to jump through too many hoops; as I've been quite busy for the last year... can anyone help? I have good insurance
jcelia1 09-20-12, 07:04 PM Does anyone still need advice on a good DOC in the Metro DC area? If so feel free to send me a PM. I may be able to help.
tsb0404 11-13-12, 04:06 AM Hi all- I am new to the area, living in Alexandria and working in DC. I took Adderall for many years with great success- but went off of it for 6 years to have my children. I am now ready to get back on and need to find a good doctor who both professional and reasonable for the number of office visits he/she requires and will not feel the need to make me try alternative options before prescribing the one that has always worked. Please PM me if you have any recommendations.
THanks!!!
TheCapN 12-13-12, 01:04 PM Hi, I was diagnosed with ADD as a kid. Now, I need to have a doc revisit that to see if I can be given special considerations for a placement test (to take it untimed.)
I'm looking for a referral to a good doctor. Anyone?
Thanks!
I'm feeling really adrift. Could anyone familiar with the region please PM referrals for psychiatrists in the region qualified in adult ADD evaluation/prescription? Thanks.

HI,
This is my first post. I live in Arlington and work in Alexandria. Would you be able to help me find a Dr in the area -- alexandria would probably be preferred -- for adult ADD that will prescribe Adderall without requirng too many hoops be jumped through and not insisting on monthly office visits? I have insurance.
Thanks,
Patrick
hellandback 02-04-13, 02:41 PM Hey,
Don't mean to necro this thread again, but I'm lookin for some help as well. I've slowly been losing focus of my studies here and as much as I hate myself for letting it go I just can't seem to give a ****... I dont know what's up. I've found that adderall gives me crazy anxiety, but vyvanse seems to just give me the motivation I need to get through the day. Im in the Fairfax area and could use a Dr nearby. I don't have insurance and Im working short of full time and going to school full time to barely make it by so I can't afford too many stops.
I just found my way to this thread because I have the same problem.
I moved to Arlington a few weeks ago to start my job, but I'm struggling now being without Adderall. I was wondering if someone could refer me to a good person in Arlington or D.C. to help.
Thanks all!
bcd1003 02-10-13, 09:49 AM I have a similar situation. Need to find a new doctor for treatment/evaluation in the DC-Maryland area. My old doctor no longer prescribes treatment for adults with ADD/ADHD, so I've been off for about year now, and thinking I need to find a prescribing doctor. PM me if you can. Thanks!
Sashabunny 03-10-13, 09:31 PM I just moved too. I'm staying in Fairfax but moving to Alexandria. My GP wrote my last script and was in Jupiter, FL. I'm trying to find someone that won't waste my time or money. PLEASE HELP!!
