My 7 yr old has been diagnosed and medicated since late March 2004 since then she has lost almost 10 pounds. She was never overweight so now all you can see is ribs and back bone. How and what did ya all do to help with these issues?

Johns always been a funny eater, we've started to call him snake boy because one day he would want to eat us out of house and home and the next day he just didn't want anything.

Since starting his meds (he's now on concerta) his weight has been up and down like a yo-yo every mth.

We have now learnt to listen to John, and i am trying not to force feed him so much, as what i was finding was, it was putting him off food even more.

now when John gets the urge to eat we make sure we just keep it coming, even if its at 10 o'clock at night,

I know that this isn't the answer but its the only thing that is working for us at the moment so i'll look forward to seeing other peoples ideas here and things may get better.

My son weighed in at 51lbs. at the end of first grade, when he started on meds. At the end of second grade he was 46.5 lbs. Because he was losing instead of gaining we took him off the adderall and put him on strattera. He has been on strattera for awhile but combined with the adderall. Once, he was on Strattera only he started gaining weight, and I am happy to say that since the end of May he has put on 4lbs. and seems to be eating. He takes his Strattera before bed so he is not to hungry in the morning but eats all afternoon and in the evenings.

I hope the Strattera will continue to work for him especially when school starts. I am so happy his weight has gone up, it's very scary to watch your child not grow.

Good luck on your journey.

Hi Venessa,
Thanks for your reply. I have a question regarding Adderall and Strattera does it help with night time sleeping? My daughter is on a night time med and I have been thinking that I would like to put her on Strattera but I am very aprehensive (sp) about having to put her on 3 meds. So if the Strattera will help with her going to bed maybe I will put her on the Strattera too.
Thanks Robin

My 8 yr grandson is a picky eater. I need some info from other parents with the same problem. one time he can't get enought of one food item and the next he will not even look at it.

ADD kids can have real sensitivities to food smells, colors and textures. You might try giving him a couple of things to choose from when he eats, and make note of what he eats and what he wont. Kids at that age can also be picky eaters too. My daughter has probably 7 or 8 things she likes to eat...and nothing else! They usually outgrow the picky thing as they get older.

My daughter also has eating issues. Started with the ritalin. Big is right about finding a few things they will eat. My daughter has just a few things she likes. She also is very sensitive to strong smells. So we have to be careful with that. Even if she is not eating what we have fixed for us, the smell of it often will zap her appetite, and then she will not eat anything!!
