I was wondering why a poster is only allowed to edit that post for 30 minutes after it's original posting. People, especially ADD'ers, might come up with something to add to the post more than 30 minutes from it's conception as was the case with me.
Thanks

Yes, it would probably be a little more convenient....however, if there was unlimited time to edit, then all the responses made to your original post might not make sense anymore (depending on the changes made to the original post).

True but quoting the original post would ensure the integrity of your response to a post (quoted text in a new post isn't changed by an edit of the original). But I see your logic. Anyway, thanks for the explination!

True, Speed, and actually I agree with you on this one... but one of the other reasons I think the powers that be go this way is that these "Quotes" don't necessarily have to be accurate either... having the entire story on the record seems to be important around here.
For example:
I had lunch with the Queen of England yesterday. She snorted Coke out her nose.
OMG, I must email everyone I know immediately and tell them about the Queen!

LOL, I understand people can edit quotes and to make things spin in a number of different directions. I've seen this on a couple of the boards I admin. The checks and balances are normally the original post, whether edited or not, doesn't match the quoted post in a flamers response.
Beyond that, when a thread is spinning out of hand to such a degree that people are editing their own posts to make someone look silly and people are editing quoted posts to the same end, a moderator or admin is already laying the smack down on the thread anyway.
Most thread viewers have been involved with atleast one of the popular bullentin board programs and know people can and do act in this foolish manner.
I don't really agree with the editing limit but I know two things as an admin myself..
1. Most unique properties implemented on a board are a response to a problem that board has experienced. That property is the result of that admins solution to the problem
2. I don't argue with an admin about why a board runs a certain way. It's that way because they want it there and if they don't want something implemented or it's outlived its usefulness, it would be removed.
BTW, I did infact have lunch with the Queen yesterday. ;)
Is is true what they say about her snorting Coke out of her nose?
This is a gentle reminder to please stay on topic

why I like the edit option limited
is if someone was allowed to change their posts I would never know to go back and read the updated post and may miss something important
if that makes sense
