Anyone else constantly question if your psychic or not? Posted 7-12-2002 02:25

Could it be that since an ADD mind works differently, does that mind has the ability to tap into normally unused parts of the brain? I really do not think I want to be psychic, it's just that the coindences get so common and ridiculous that I sometimes get alittle scared.

Both my mom and my grandmother also question this, but they seem to want to be psychic and it seems as if they are trying hard to look for coincedences.

Hello ,I am a 32 yr old wife and mother of 2 beatiful and smart children,sorry but I have to dote,This is my first post on this site,i was just diagnosed with ADHD/ fibromyalgia/sleeping disorder...ect..the list could go on...anyway what I wanted to comment on this thread is that I truly believe that some people who are ADHD are some how interconnected with other forces of nature,some of the things ive seen and experianced would make anybody wonder(am i crazy)...but as time goes on you keep finding more evidence that you are not ,but indeed posses a gift,the hard part is discovering what it was intended for...anyway i will tell you a bit about my story...as far as the psychic thing goes...it started with strange experiences as a chid and a teen,then it hit me full blown...I started reading tarot cards with pretty good results about 3 yrs ago,and at the time was doing much research on everything unsolved or unexplained and was looking for some answers..anyway I had this terrible feeling when all the shark frenzy started happening in florida,I felt like the world was going mad and still do,To me it was like a light went on...I knew this was not right because i grew up in florida and spent as much time possible going to the beach...sharks just dont frenzy feed on people like that....so I knew somthing was up...lurking to come that was much worse than the shark attacks..I even kept telling hubby somthing was wrong ,he probably thought i was crazy,dont really know...i dont want people to think im crazy so i try not to talk about this much....the night before sept 11 I downloaded a beautiful archangel for my wallpaper,the next day when I awoke i got a phone call from a friend telling me to turn on my news,he said this is the end of the world as we know it...after this happend i took a trip to guam and had a bad time there so i went to peurtorico afterwards I had a dream once i got to peurtorico that i was indide a high rise building back in guam and i remeber the buildings shaking and coming down,i remember crouching in my dream to the floor to feel safe.....it was scary,the next day on the news there was an announcment that guam had been hit by an earthquake...i was in complete shock that i actually had a future type esp dream....so you see why i support the idea and think more research should be done...i also read somthing very interesting....it was told by someone ,cant remember who ,that certain indian tribes thought that adhd people were to be looked up to ,in some spiritual way...still need more research on this subject....anyway any questions or comments appreciated,sincerly,babygirl

Hey I'm 25 I was diagnosed with ADD/ADHD few years ago. I am studying medicin. I think we ADDers are more sensitive than other people we have more channels open in the brain at the same time (that's why we can;t focus at one specific thing for a very long time bc there are so many things at one time). I think that our subconsuisness is closer to our feelings than for non ADDers,bc we get so much info at the same time mabe not what we are supose to notise (like what's the topic of the lecture we arre listening to) I think we mabe receve info that we dont know how to synthesize, knowing then mabe more what is happening around uss than the average non ADDer, bc of this.

I don't consider myself to be psychic. I have ADD. I do, however, admit, I have an almost quarky ability to know what is going on, when other people don't have a clue. My intuition comes in very handy. Frankly, I take too many chances, because I simply sense that everything is going to be ok. And when something is going to happen, I generally have a feeling, a warning sensation in me. I've felt, not heard, but felt a presence warning me of impending harm, and guiding me away from it. And I have seen verified information afterwards that there was in fact danger that I averted.

I may get myself into jams, due to my ADD, but generally, an uncanny amount of luck comes my way, to get me out of those jams. For example, the other day, on a Sunday, I was doing a job for a church, and many people were depending on that job getting done that day, or the church festival would be delayed. Ever tried finding an important machine part on a a
Sunday? As soon as the part didn't work, I knew I should have done a test run of the equipment before the important day. I went to discount auto parts...they didn't have it. I was driving past a oil/lube place...and obviously they would not have it. but my daughter, who is ADD too, said "what about that place?" I said "no, they are only a quick oil lubrication shop..they only change oil". I was going to pass it. Then intuition hit me, that maybe they were off the beaten path, and I should take a minute and see, before I say "no". So I did pull in, and the boy there said, "Wait a second, that man over there will know, he's the manager of the auto parts store down the street" I said "I've already been to that store" He said, "Well, no harm in talking to him". I said, "OK". Well, he was indeed the manager of the auto parts store I had just come from, working part time in addition at the quick lube shop. He said he could make me the part I needed. He called the store, ordered some parts for me to be on the counter, had me go get the parts, bring them back to him, and he made me a part that would work in time for the Sunday festival, to get us through the day." He said his staff at the auto parts store would not even know he had those parts in stock!! Instead, I sensed that there was a chance the lube shop might be able to help,even if they don't carry machine parts! So that's what I mean. Good luck, almost freaky things like that, happen all the time. I follow my gut before I follow my logic, and my gut is so often correct! Other people would have followed logic, and would have bypassed the lube place, and the church would still be waiting for their equipment! So us ADDers to have intuition, and it is strong. I agree 100%

I can't "make" it happen. If I could I'd be rich. But I have had a couple of psyhic experiences that could in no way have been coincidental.
Please believe me, I am not crazy. But this is something I've noticed and wonder if it has to do with the unique way our brains are wired.
The few truly psychic messages I've had came to me while I was in a state of, for wont of a better term, relaxed consciousness. In one instance, I was brushing my teeth. In another, I was drifting off to sleep and something just "popped" into my head.
There have been other like times, when I was folding clothes or gardening, etc., when it felt like I was picking up snatches of other people's conversations. I wonder if somehow my brain has become some kind of static receiver. I wonder if I really am "hearing" bits and pieces of the conversations of other people.
I've never confided this to anyone, for obvious reasons, but I wonder if anyone else with ADD has experienced something similar? I never thought there was a link, until today

i'm very open minded, maybe some of us are psychic, but let's consider all the possibilities.

A point that hasn't been mention is that maybe because we're less aware of time, some of us are not intuitatively skilled with probability.

I have experienced some strange things. I "saw" a car crash in my mind while walking home from work one day. I shook it off. "What a horrible thing to daydream about!" One block up, and two cars crashed right in front of me.

There are other things. Sometimes it is just a feeling about someone or an even coming up. I know when something isn't quite right, but lack the ability to know just what it is until it is happening.

I've wondered if some of that might be explained by my brain taking in more information than the "normal" person. Maybe I unconsciously heard those cars and "knew" they were going too fast to stop at the stop sign. (Both cars ran stop signs!)

Maybe body language, tone, a look in the eyes, tells me something I'm unaware of.

I can't pick out the details, but my subconscious does?

I used to think I had some sort of psychic ability... I'd be (as a child) riding in the car, reading a book, and the exact word I was reading was being said aloud in conversation by my parents. And there were other weird coincidences... like waking up singing a song in my head... turn on the radio, and there's the song, right in the spot I left off singing.

However, over time I've come to believe that this is more an intuition/sensitivity issue. I honestly believe I see things more intuitively than many people around me, and while I don't do as well with actual empirical data or facts, I can sense trends, hunches, and analyze complex personal relationships much better than my colleagues or friends. I tend to also notice things they would never think to notice.

I think my earlier childhood experiences were coincidence... and "synchronicity". After all, when you think about it... if a billion thoughts go through your head every day, eventually SOME of them are going to be related to something you experience later that day, one way or another.

SO... as far as psychic ability goes, I don't think I am. That dude John Edward on Crossing Over kinda creeps me out, though... he's uncanny! I'd believe it if you told me HE was really psychic.

I am not physic, but i do see and feel spirits. It used to freak me out. But, now as long as they leave me alone. I am ok. I do have 1 spirit who is an oldman who follows me everywhere. I do not know who he is but, think it may be my grandfather. I never met him. I hear him walking around my apt sometimes and he sits at the end of my bed on occasion. Freaky, but true.

You are referring to "The Indigo Children"(I think). I have read excerpts from the book on Amazon.Com. The idea is that we are actually extraordinarily gifted, but we lack instruction. That kind of spiritualism is scoffed at in today's society. I'm not sure if the book gives any reliable guidance at all, but it does look very interesting!

That may explain my interest in tarot and meditation! I was raised in a strict Christian home, but was always drawn to metaphysical ideas. My mother gets "feelings" about people and sometimes foresees events happening in their lives. She believes it is a direct vision from God, but I have to wonder if it isn't a talent God gave to her at birth. She went to my evaluation for ADD with me, to support me and to tell him what I was like as a child. After talking with her for a little while, the doctor says she is most definitely ADD (so much for not turning into my mother... ;).

My Grandmother had strange abilities as well from what I have heard. With so much evidence pointing to ADD being genetic, I wouldn't be surprised if she had this "disorder".

Actually, you're probably referring to the foreword to Thom Hartmann's book, where he claims/says he was on a train in India, and talking to two Indian (not Native American) people, who he described ADD symptoms to... and who he then says told him that they call people like that "Old Souls", meaning they've seen many past lives.

The story's a bit suspect, I think, but it's a good story anyway.

Yeah, I can definitely feel the future too. But sometimes it is just common sense or maybe a mixture of that and intuition together. Like for instance, the day we went to war with Iraq, there was a higher probability of a terrorist attack, so I took a little road trip straight away from Los Angeles. Just didn't seem all that smart to be there if I didn't have to. And you don't have to be psychic or a genius to figure that out.

I wouldn't say that I was psychic, but a lot of the time, I will be singing a song in my head (could be one I aint heard in a long time) and then my wife will start singing it.
Also I get Deja Vu a lot and I am very good at reading people, 9/10 times I can look at a person and I know straight away what kind of person they are i.e. nasty, ignorant, 2 faced, deceitful.

I think that the whole psychic thing is close but not bona-fide. I tend to "feel" things in my experiences. I mean, get a feeling from a color or an inantimate object. This is added to the normal intake of information, conscious information. Un conscious information is what makes us "psychic". Unconscious detailed info, that is saved and added up brings about spontaneous insight. But, try that in controlled enviornment and we see that we are not psychic. Try the deck of cards test. Doesn't work. The psychic phenomena usually involves ppl not objects. Ppl give off signals whether they realize it or not. Ppl pick up signals whether they realize it or not. Being adhd heightens sensitivity to the signals on an un conscious level.

I have read scientific articles that say that the human brain can be amazingly intuitive... even our most powerful computers today still don't come close to meeting the potential of the human brain. Now we usually don't USE that potential, but I have also read that ADD people are MUCH more intuitive statistically. Our brain can take "clues" from the environment, process them subconsciously, and then give us a "feeling" that something is true, something will happen, etc.... we don't trust that feeling, because our conscious mind can't find any evidence that it is true. Then when it turns out to be true after all... we're as astounded as anyone!

For the most part I look at it as being highly intuitive (though at times I can be completely unplugged from my surroundings). However intuition alone does not explain how a group of fifty to sixty people in a tight packed room occupied by 2000, would suddenly create a huge exspanse of space allowing an old boyfriend and myself to see each other as if Moses himself had parted the sea of people. His best friend witnessed this and has referred to me as a witch on several occasions...never in a mean way!

It also doesn't explain thinking of someone for the first time in two years and receiving a call from them an hour later for no reason!

I'm resurrecting this post from the dead, because for one thing, I, out of curiousity felt compelled to see if there is a connection between ADD and psychic abilities. So I did a net search and I wound up right back to the ADDFORUMS.
I've had many experiences that are beyond mere coincidence or explanation.

And just as I got to the end of the post and after I read unreal33's link on synchronicity I noticed that I had a private message.

The person was curious if I was a member on a pagan, type of site, probably concerning witchcraft and developing psychic abilities.

That's a real good example of mysterious synchricity that just happened to me 5 minutes ago.

And in being Jungian, I recognize synchronized events, as they unfold.
Once you start doing that, it's almost impossible, to not recognize them when they happen.

Today I just had synchron #2
Decided to call in sick (got a cold with fever syptoms) so my boss calls me, and I tell him I'm considering not coming in.
Then he tells me that he really needs me tonight. A priority job. Most of the time it's non-priority, and can be put off.

Figures,... he really needs me on the night I decide to call in sick, first time in almost 2 years that I've been working for him that I decide to call in and the very same day I got to go!

And it's pouring rain out!

I do know my husband calls me a witch..sometimes because I act like one...sometimes because...I say things he was going to...call him while is he thinnking about me,,or coming up the road...
that may be from 13 years of being with him.

I have experience a lot of seeing things before they happen.. little things...
I think a lot of it has to do with being hypersensitive to our world and surroundings and people.

I know one of the questions on my initial dx paperwork was being interested in witchcraft type, midevil, fantasy type things.....hmm interesting that is part of the dx process?

I am not a disbeliever, or believer in that realm.
However, I do believe we are maybe more in touch than others.

Reading body language is different from 'feeling' others emotions, Sis.

You utilize a totally different part of your brain, when you interpret body language, versus when you apply empathic gifts.

One has to do with intuition, and 'feeling' what others 'feel', Jen,
and the other has to do with visually observing non verbal gestures, that sometimes occur in nano seconds, and applying a set of recognized labels to those gestures.


I'm going to use myself once more as an example..so it's easy for you to understand what I'm saying..in the case of empathy...you can't shield..and empathize at the same time..it's one or another..
So if I am going to empathize...meaning 'feel' what others are feeling (and that differs from reading body language..I will absorb a person's joys, anger, hate, sadness, envy..etc.
If I shield myself..meaning I close myself off to those 'feelings' so I don't absorb them, and therefore they don't get through. Hence I become insensitive.
One or the other. You can switch back and forth..but you can't do both at once. And if you're going to argue..he he..you're allowed to..because that's what you do..and I love you for it, because that's how you figure out how things work or not...try it out...try to do both at once.
I already stated that I choose to stay open as an Empath because I absorb much more than just emotion. It's an incredible gift and I've never, perceived it as a burden, ever. And with that choice, I also, get drained, sometimes. But that's my choice..and I have my ways, of emptying out my 'cuppa'..as I say (0:

people think I am like that because I can hear things that most can't (example at home in the winter with sounds galore in the house and I could hear clocks in neighbor's houses cats crying from down the road etc) and I have a keen sense in weather changes

I dont know if this counts but I will never forget it. This past Christmas my Fiancee and I made the decision to spend Christmas Eve at his parents house. The plan was that all of the kids would spend the night and then his Grandparents would come over in the morning for breakfast. Well before we left our house that night I had this feeling like something horrible was going to happen. I went around the whole entire house and unplugged everything, and my Fiancee and his brother (we were giving him a ride) laughed at me and called me crazy. Anyway his Grandparents were in a horrible horrible accident on the way to his parents house on Christmas day. Grandpa was actually just released from the hospital about a month ago and the doctors seriously thought that he was going to die. I have had the little "feelings or thoughts" but nothing like this before. Maybe it was just a weird thing that happened but I will never forget it.

hello im 18, and new to all this, i found out about ADD not too long ago a couple of weeks i guess, i deffinately have it,for sure! and, well, i dont consider myself phycic HOWEVER i have had sooo many phycic reaccourances!

i cant help but feel peoples feelings its really annoying sometimes, when my boyfriend is depressed i feel it also,i REALLY feel the emotion i dont mean to and try very hard not to but it cant be helped and i also know its not my emotion because i would of been happy the minute before!we also share dreams, i was away in Greece the week b4 last and we shared our dreams, they were the same? STRANGE!it was like we missed each other so much we just wanted to be togetheer and somehow phycicly connected through our dreams! i also had visions that came true, i somehow knew that on our way home from our holiday that the main road to the airport was going to be closed off due to road works, and this actually DID happen!i kind of had a vision i guess? i dreamped it up through random thoughts! i also remember thinking to myself a random thought that there hasnt been any murmaid films out for years then i thought to myself they really should make one, it would be good, on the airoplane flight back, take a wild guess to what the outflight film was? Aqua Marine, a teen chick flick about a murmaid! these things are happening to me all the time, my nan does this to, her dreams come tru quite alot!

oh and ghosts dont get me started, soo many, way too many stories, right now theres a ghost i swear in the garage i am in (theres an office built in our garage) i feel its precence and hear it!i see things hear things the whole lot, i dont welcome this 'gift' tho,maybe its because i dont knwo how to use it and because its the unknown im scared of it all!

i also feel precences, i just know when something feels wrong for instance places!iv got it now as i type because of the spirit 'ghost' in our garage!i also can pretty much know what a person is like right down to the core just by looking at them! im a good juge of character, i know when ppl are genuine or not!oh and because i can read ppl so well alot of the time i know what people are thinking, lol its not like 'think od a colour' right that colour is red type thing its just i can detect whats wrong with someone type thing, am i making myself clear? sorry when i write alot of the time its hard to understand, talk in a disorganized fashion lol!

theres all sorts of strange things i do and i dont understand or know why!something to do with energies, im very in touch with energies i guess? i dont know!

i wont dare share this with anyone esle tho because they would all think im mad so i havnt told anyone these things!

well thats my experiences!sooo im guesing that ppl with ADD must have some sort of connection or 'gift' when it comes to the unkown part of science like phycics and spirits etc

My husband and I occupied the same 'space' many, many times. We've been in the same 'hallucination' several times.
It's almost impossible for us to BS each other. We are like clones. From the beginning, not from our 30 years together...
Traits we share in common are identical ( as measured by CPP and other tests ).
Traits we don't share are polar opposities of each other ( like intuitive vs analytical ).
But I've come to feel that intuition is really subliminal, nanosecond fast analysis.
Perhaps polar opposites are rrreally circular and meant to traverse that spectrum in one direction with limits in place to keep from wrapping to the next step.
Meaning the opposite traits really sit next to each other in that locus.
Perhaps we are meant to break those limits and traverse the circle bi-directionally instead of linearly.

The maternal side of my family, just about everyone has 'feelings' and dreams and can detect presence of something/someone.
Predictive dreams certainly. Which are like deja vu.
I find myself in places that I distinctly remember from dreams I had in the distant past.

My husband is sensitive as well, especially to phone calls or letters. And he is also very much a trend setter. silly example: finding and loving a song then that genre becomes popular and everyone loves the same song. Predictive or synchronicity?
I wish he shared my love of tangential metaphysics...he's more concerned with why I'm not reformulating my resume and getting another job.

i understand my add is a gift, it gives me the opportunity to think out of the box, im very creative and open minded and inovative like this, these are good qualioties, there are oh so many good qualities that come with ADD i relize this i could list them all day!

However i was being specific to the being in touch with energies and spirits, i find it disturbing, i dont welcome that! if im in a really good mood and i walk into a room where the energy is negative, i cant help but feed off that and mecome negative myself even tho this isnt my emotion its others! an example of this would be i was in my partners bedroom sleeping with him next to me and he was thinking very negative images up, i was fine, i had no idea, i was happy when i went to sleep, however i had a very vivid negative dream, i described them to him and he was amazed, i had dreampt the negative feelings, emotions and images he had in his head! these are the things i don't like, with the 'gift'!

ummmm.... i have seen things before? recently i keep seeing light, thats the best way i can describe it, like specs of light that dissappear when you focus on it! iv seen faces before and dark silohets, this was horrible tho things happen alot when im with my boyfriend, supernatural things! lol i also think he may have ADHD :) that could explain why he is sensitive to seeing and hearing things also!he's alot like me, can feel my emotion know what im thinking etc!

i see things from different angles too, its good i think two dimensionally! it helps me out alot of the time!its a usefull skill!
