So I've read that ADD'ers are adrenaline junkies. We require "highly stimulating activities". It seems, with so many of us sharing so many life experiences and personality traits, I thought I would bring up another of what I consider a positive aspect of being wired a little different! :D

So you thrill seekers out there, what do you do to get your kicks?

Hmmmmm while I do enjoy highly stimulating activities...I HATE unnecessary Adrenaline rushes like....roller coasters, etc....they make me feel AWFUL and sick.

I usually prefer something that gets my BRAIN/MIND stimulated...like....

second hand shopping.....always something new to see and look at
viewing psychodelic art, glittery fashions and things of that nature
listening and singing along with songs that have fast lyrics (One Week from Bare Naked Ladies comes to mind)
People Watching in a place where there's "strange people" (hubby's metal concerts, though metal drives me bonkers)
Watching movies that have interesting story lines, or lots of suspence, or are just plain wierd (examples - Momento, Panic Room, Tommy)
arts, crafts, home improvement projects

Yeah, I know, I'm bonkers...

I feel like I'm a the edge of being an adrenaline junkie......

I love adventurous risky stuff and at the same time my brain tells me "no way that's dangerous" I also have an awful fear of heights, so I haven't done much.

Not proud of this because it really was stupid but I've gone over 100 miles and hour on the back of a motorcycle and loved every min.

Gone for a ride in a helicopter...

Gone for a ride on an ultralight....

I have a motorcycle lic. but don't own my own bike any more...

I'm a closet drag racer and road racer.....

If I had the time, money and more gutts there are many other things I'd do.

jaimegerise - I can imagine some interesting folks at your husband's metal concerts. It's all about what gets your heart pumping! ;)

fasttalkingmom - I'm glad to see another racer on here! I've been racing something since age 5. You mentioned being a closet drag racer/road racer, what do you run?

I also have contradictory features.

I'm generally real careful, never been in a car wreck, never broken a bone. But yeah, I used to love downhill skiing the most adventurous runs, driving fast on windy mountain roads (sometimes). My worst anxiety ever was going down this super steep dirt mountain road too fast with someone else at the wheel (agh!).

I think it's a tug-o-war between the add, depression & anxiety! Overall I'd say I'm quite inhibited.

As a kid we had BMX style bikes ( I'm talking over 30 years ago) we had this hill on front of our house we'd line up in the street go as fast as we could and go up the hill to get some air time.. :D Now look at what the kids do ! I love watching it on TV.

We ( meaning my younger brother, sister and others on our street) had corn fields behind our house. We'd all have dirt bikes and would go aound and around till the owner of the land saw the track we had made and called the cops. We had someone on look out after that... Also love to watch dirt bike racing on TV......

The drags..... my first love....this started when I was in High school. I was the only girl in my auto class. I fought to be there the school didnt let girls in that class back then. Anyway, one day we come to class to find the fame of a dragster in our shop. We found out our teacher was part owner and pit crew of a well known funny car in our area. During class our teacher showed us tapes of drags...I'd never seen anything like it ! Years later married, one of the best drag bikers in our area. I saw him drag once and it stopped my heart....

I use to have this dream of being a hotrod dragster... :o

Now I dream of being a road racer. I can see me racing around the back of the track on my Buell ! ZOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMM ......
Never gonna happen..... :D But it's fun to dream

Thanks for this post.....love talking about stuff like this !

No Problem, I'm ate up with it too!

I started my obsession on the BMX track. I raced in the ABA for the majority of my childhood. Later in my teenage years, I raced a mini-stock on some of the local dirt track circuits for a couple seasons. While the racing was fun, it wasn't my crowd.

So my father and I built a '69 Prostreet Nova which I raced in the highschool drags. That car was an absolute thrill to drive. Launches hard enough to make you dizzy are awesome!

When I was stationed over in Germany, I had a Yamaha FZR 1000 that I raced for a couple seasons on Hockenhiemring. There is absolutely nothing like dragging a knee on a liter bike around a world class GP track. Of all the forms of racing I've done so far, this has been by far, the most exilerating! And yes, I've been down in Sachs Curve ;)

Sinse then I've raced some SCCA Solo II stuff, plenty more drag racing and I'm about to get road racing spoiled! There is a nice road course near here (Hallett) and they are building another one soon! Having two excellent road racing facilities means building a road car now :D.

BTW, I know someone selling a modded Buell here in Tulsa (dunno what he wants for it though).

Closet meaning most people I know I have idea I love racing and have ever dreamed of being a drag racer.... Also....Shhhhhh don't tell, I some times drive my 95 ford Escort Wagon (when alone) as if it was a fast car ... :D With my Escort it's more driving skills than speed...... Oh, but, not that I ever drive too fast or try to beat people at a red light that ___ me off or anything like that :o

I have a job as a store detective. I like the relationships with my co-workers and that is important to me. I like adrenaline or I never would have done this. I tried to get away from it by working in different areas, but I always return here.

I guess you can say I am a people watcher. I am a very sweet person, but I like to catch people doing things that they think they can get away with. I always empathize with them though. You have to be careful not to let your feelings out too much or they will walk all over you.

Thank God I won't be doing this for long. I graduate from nursing school soon.

As far as the drug addicts that steal and I catch? They fight me and curse me, but I really feel bad for them because I could be where they are now. If you think about it, say I was raised different, or had different peers when I was younger. Just because of low self-esteem when I was a teen, or some other scenario, I could be where they are.

Other than that....I intend on going skydiving before the year is out.

Been skiing in the "backbowls" in Vail, Colorado....powdered snow up to your chest, couldnt see your skis, and you just kinda leaned into the descent, and away you went....what a rush!!

Diffenently I mountian bike to get that rush. Going down a single track at 20 miles an hour coming up to a turn and decreasing speed just enough to make the corner knowing if you take it to fast you are going over the edge of a 80% slope. balance knowing the limits of your handleing right there in the moment. It takes all of your focus its the only time I am right there in the moment its like the hunting instince nothing but but making the best run ever. Your heart rates up you pick your line you can only look at the next 20 feet becuase of bolders logs and coners have to be calculated so you can make brake balancing and landings adjustments just in time for the next turn. me and nature. adrenalin for me is exercise sports is the release this ADDein needs its like back to my roots. Yall have agood one

I like driving fast, but only when I am the driver hehe I have control issues when other people are at the wheel.
A different sort of 'adrenaline junkiness' comes in my work, I work well under pressure, like working a code at the hospital, the fast pace and emergency of the situation gets my heart pumping and adrenaline flowing....after one of these experiences however, I am exhausted.

I love skiing! I picked up that addiction when I lived in Germany. Unfortuately, it kind of kicked itself when I moved back to the flatlands of the central US. Never sky dived but always wanted too. I watched something about some guys base jumping in The Netherlands and that looked AWESOME (but a bite more extreme than I am).

I've bunjie jumped before and that was alot of fun. Right now all my efforts are heading into building another race car for a couple tracks they have near by. Next year might prove to be a fun year!

About anything...my whole life has been nothing more than a quest for stimulation. I've been told I have a high threshhold for stimulation.

I have always loved fast cars. And the biggest rush I used to find was once that I had a cop chasing me was to flee & elude! That would get my adrenaline pumping so hard that after I had made my escape and hid my car, I would get out of my car and I would literally be shaking. What a rush!It didn't make any difference whether it was a regular city cop, county sheriff or state highway patrol. I did think the Staties were the best equipped both car and driver. So they were a little bit more of a rush. I can not understand anybody getting "a thrill" out of kicking the door open on another mans' home. That is scary! Do you also get a thrill putting loaded weapons to peoples' heads and standing on them while you're handcuffing them? How many times have you gone in and found out you had the wrong address? And scared somebody's Grandfather or Grandmother half to death?

So I've read that ADD'ers are adrenaline junkies. We require "highly stimulating activities".

I love being redced to a culteral sterotype...
......but, I stay at home when I can, and hermit.
masterbation is the only highly stimulating activity I indulge in.
