i'm wondering if otherrs like me feel no effect from caffeine, or if any a calming sleepy feeling, i was also wondering if there was like a coffee alternative for people with ADD, just something to get you moveing in the morning, besides a kick to the balls

According to Dr. Amen, caffeine and other stimulants sometimes have the unusual effect of calming ADD people down... the thing is, our brain craves stimulation, and without it, we become hyper in an attempt to keep ourselves alert. Caffeine gives us that stimulation so we no longer need to be hyper, capische? Or at least that's the theory...

I myself have found that after being a caffeine drinker for a long time, it has less and less effect on me... I seem to have built up an immunity to it...

Try green tea, it's got caffiene unless it says "decaf". Coffee and diet coke are my drugs of choice...with no balls to kick, maybe I'd feel more awake if I had some.

Caffiene with either make me sleepy...especially in the form of a warm drink. OR will make my fog lift....as in drinking a coke. :D

I always used to wonder why I could drink (literally) pots of coffee a day and not feel the same effect as other people ... I get the fog lift thing, but I also feel physically calm and relaxed, almost sleepy.

It was always something of a joke until I was diagnosed with ADD and started on Ritalin ... the doc explained that I have been trying to self-medicate with all that caffeine :-D

I still love coffee, though!

Coffee does nothing for me, except make me more lethargic. That's fine bec. I don't like the taste. My cup is cream and sugar w/a touch of coffee.

I always told friends "caffeine doesn't effect me like other people", but never really knew why until recently. I could drink a pot of coffee or several sodas and go straight to sleep. Now I know the reason for this :)

Caffeine makes me jittery and restless. If I drink it too late in the day I can't sleep. To make matters worse, my body doesn't seem to tolerate it very well. I tend to get cramps and diarrea if I drink strong coffee or Coke. What's frustrating about this is I LOVE Coke! Arrrggg!

caffiene used to sorta work for me like a really light dose of ritalin (I didn't know this really but found I could get though the day better with it)

After I got diagnosed and begin taking ritalin caffiene has no effect on me

I've got the proverbial coffee monkey on my back too. Make that a whole tribe of them. We start each day with our friend 'Mister Coffee', and sometimes set up the machine in the kitchen the night before :) How's that for dedication?

But the coffee intake is finshed before the lunch hour. As a rule, maybe only one cup in the afternoon. I have found that it's a good eye opener, and can certainly lift the brain fog each day. But too much of a good thing, is no good.

mmmmmm coffeeeee

I work in the food service industry so coffee is readily available all the time to me, well, that and cola beverages. I usually consume 10 to 12 caffienated beverages per day. Like most of you, it seems to clear the fog and causes me no troubles such as not being able to fall asleep or jitterieness.

I always wondered why caffeine made me feel sleepy or had no effect...
Sometimes it makes me extremely hyper, but that's mainly if I drink soda.

caffene some times does nothing at all, other times just keeps me awake. My doc said it could help because its a stimulent, but its never ever been like any meds for me... still good to drink! love my cokes...

My friends all give me a hard time because if you give me more than one cup of coffee at a time I have to take a nap, but anything alcohol will have me up and running at top speed. For me it's not a problem, because I've learned to enjoy one (max 2) really, really good cup(s) of coffee...

"Big dark thick and delish.. lots "o" foam.. "

and I don't like to drink much because it's too uncomfortable not being able to shut down.

Mornings one cup of coffee will help me get focused, and throughout the day, an occassional cup keeps me there. Now that I've started with Ritalin, though, I'm noticing that I need to reduce how many cups I drink over the day because I get pretty jittery sometimes later in the afternoon.

's funny-i love coffee any way, shape or form (ever try to make coffee ice cubes? great for iced coffee) & i would swear that it has no effect on me x-cept that my wife would tell that im a slug, blurry-eyed & rude first thing in the am.

i too set my lil pot up the nite before so that all i got to do is flip the switch in the am.

i used to drive towtruck-15 years-& got to be a master at scarfing down double espressos, going right to sleep, waking when the phone rang & getting the job done.
of course now i work 8 hrs. only &have cut coffee intake waaaaaay down
but i do miss it whenits not around:)

I am sometimes stimulated by alcohol... it's weird seeing someone else point that out. I don't know if it's related to ADD but if it is then that only strengthens my chances of having it even more.

....I'm going off on a tangent here, but I was told that when I was six, and hospitalized to have my tonsils removed, that I had an anaesthetic injected into me. Instead of the desired result of having me knocked out, I became extremely hyperactive, started hitting the nurse and I was swearing at the top of my lungs. Funny thing is, I didn't actually start swearing until I was about 11. Naturally my Asperger's Syndrome was blamed for that, but it's pretty freaky how these things affect me in such an unusual way. Im a soda fiend! Im addicted. It has never made me hyper though. Nor does it make me sleepy. I'm just more alert, I guess.

I used to drink lots of coffee, but now don't drink it much because my current schedule doesn't call for waking up early. Thank god b/c Im useless in the morning.

Coffee does help wake me up but I wont even come close to being hyper. Im just maybe a little more alert. But I wont crave coffe like I crave soda.

At the moment Im trying to quit soda and cigarettes, with not much luck:(

Has anyone taken caffene pills for staying up at night studying or driving? Hows that like? Ive always wondered if they worked.

Hmm that is strange. Seems like something a knowledgeable doc ought to be able to come up with a theory for...

When I mentioned to my psychiatrist on my first visit how much caffeine I drank, he gave me a really funny look and commented how "excessive" it was. Since he started me on Wellbutrin, I've almost quit. Generally the most I'll have is a cup of coffee at the local Borders (good place to study for the licencing exams I have to take for work, plus the cafe girls are nice), or maybe a soda or 2. It used to be more like at least 2 liters of soda per day.

I drink a Diet Coke (I love Coke but after two cavities dentist told me to switch to D.C. - BOO) every day after I get home from class. It gets me through my late afternoon sleepiness, but gives me the jitters too. So I don't drink more than about 2 a day. I also love an occasional Cafe Mocha from Starbucks.

Also, I've noticed that if it has caffeine, it goes straight through me in about 30 minutes, all at once. Takes me two pee trips to get back to normal.

Weird, I don't usually drink soda at night, but I just had one and it really helped me focus on my homework. It made me jittery and anxious too, but I got through my homework really fast. *thumbs up*
