Ha, first post in the Meditation and Spirituality forum!

The title is the name of a new movie. Very interesting stuff.
http://www.whatthebleep.com/
It ties quantum mechanics and neurobiology with spirituality using documentary style talking-head scientists, lots of cool animation and woven together with a traditional movie story; fiction about a lady as she deals with this stuff in her life.

I've heard about a lot of these concepts but never quite had the patience to finish reading that Stephen Hawking book. So the movie puts the pieces together in a very entertaining way. Lots of good info about how neurotransmitters work as well, which I guess would be the main relevance to ADD treatment.

It might be accused of falling into the category of "if you only tried harder" advice for ADD in which case just apply it to whatever comorbid conditions or just general purpose in life issues... or simply enjoy the intellectual stimulation of the topic. More of it is science than spirituality so it's not over preachy or anything... though it probably will bother anyone who has traditional religious beliefs.

This is a major movie and I expect it will do very well, it's not some little art house foreign flick thing but a big time commercial movie which is treading on untouched ground in that category.

Enjoy!

Oh, I had it set to display the last day only... nevermind [blush].

I'm tellin ya, they make it real easy & ADD-freindly to understand. Even my wife (who normally has zero intrest discussing this stuff) understood most of it and enjoyed the movie.

I'm generally very interested in those topics and have stumbled over some of those concepts for a long time never really understanding but I finally "got it". Reminded me of a lot of ideas I haven't thought about in many years.

I've watched "What the bleep do we know?" and I can say that I enjoyed it, and found it to be fun and entertaining.

However, I'm more than a little bothered by the fact that they make some very serious mistatements of scientific fact in order to "prove" their theories on quantum physics.... as far as physics goes, it is completely bogus, but still fun to watch.

The physics in this movie has nothing to do with the physics of science and/or Stephen Hawking. What they are really promoting is their own idea of reality. It is called "quantum reality" It is not a science, but is an attempt at building metaphysics on top of quantum physics. There are books on it. It is a popular fad as of recent. One nicely written book on the subject is: "Science and the Akashic Field". Do read it, it is enjoyable. But don't take it as sicence, because it isn't, and neither is this movie.

Science makes a terrible religion, and consequently religion makes a terrible science. I honestly don't think this film qualifies as either one.

Furthermore, I'm a little disturbed by the anti meds stance they take. I'm hoping some poor soul does not take the movie seriously and decide to go off of much needed meds because of the spiritual insight they think they gained from this film....

To his credit though Speedo, he did place it in the meditation and spirituality branch of the forums - a wise choice ;)

Yes, it belongs here.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the movie, I watched it several times to make sure I was right (about the misinformation) but ....

I liked the skit they did about biochemistry. It made me laugh.

One thing I should add.... Quantum reality is currently a popular field of metaphysics. It is not SCIENCE. It is metaphysics. It is more about the connecteness of ideas than anything else. There are a lot of books out on it, and a few of them are pretty good.

Be that as it may, Quantum Physics, and related subjects, is the new 'field'.

Newtonian Science still has its place in science...
But so does Quantum Physics and its disciples.

I'm not going to get into a debate about this, either.

I've done that already, and it's getting 'old'.

So have I.

There are other movies, which pertain to Quantum Physics/ Theory/ Mechanics, also, which I've found to contain valuable information, as well.

Nova, do inquiring minds a favor and list these movies. :D

-Beyond The Mechanical Universe

-The Quantum Hologram

-The Elegant Universe
(But that's Classical Science !! It's also Quantum Physics related !)

-The Secret

Just to name a few DVDs that I own besides WTB.

To those who have watched WTB and enjoyed it, do you have any specific segments of it, that you liked the most ?

I really enjoyed the entire movie, but I really liked the entire 'wedding' segment- from beginning to end. (0:

I liked the "Water" images in the film. Don't know how valid they really are/were but interesting none the less. :)

I understand that perhaps the science may not have been correct , but I think if you let that stuff get in your way, you will not experience that amazing Ah ha moment, in which you realize that despite all the **** life gives you, you have the power with in your mind to acheive what you want. You have the power to change your pardigm, to change how view experiences, and to be happpy. Unhapiness is created in the mind, you may not beable to change your external world, but the movie highlights that you do have the power to change you internal world.

I do not think the science was the main part of the movie, they wanted us to change how we view our self and our world. Also about the meds, I agree about the fact that many of us need our meds, getting rid of them is defiantley not the answer, but I think the point of getting off the meds in the movie was to show that we have more control over our lives by using the power of our mind . For instance the women thought that she needed " the meds" to control her reality basically, but at the end of the movie she learned that she could create the reality which she desired, by changing her paridigm " she could contol her anxienty". I think that although this excample may not be completely accurate, it could apply to different things. I think that this excample can relate to ADD, because a lot of us, believe that because we have certain deficeits we are not able to be as sucsessful as people who do not have ADD, this is false, we must change our paridigms, so that we know our ADD is not by any means a deficet it is a gift. If we tell our selves that every day, we will eventually begin to see events, that proove our thinking correctly, we will begin to create a different reality. This to me is what the movie was trying to get across, and I believe that in itself is extreamly powerful.

heh..yeah me too until I heard Brian Regan's comedy cd with this bit on it.
You can hear the clip here (http://youtube.com/watch?v=yvGtkodKltU) . The "I" before "E" part starts around :42. Funny stuff. :)

Very well spoken, SG. :)
That's the majority of what the movie is about.
