I just read something interesting about how people who's mothers smoked while they were pregnant with them have a higher incidence of ADD.

I'm wondering how many here had mothers who smoked while pregnant...mine was a chimney (she's since slowed down, but still does) who probably had at least a pack a day while she was pregnant with me. BTW: I have never put a cigarette in my mouth.

Has anyone else read anything about this? I'd like to do a little more research into it.

When I saw Russell Barkley last summer at a week long conference, he mentioned nidotime use during pregnancy as one of the high risk factors associated with ADHD. He didn't elaborate but perhaps his website might have more info. You could also check at the library of bookstaore some of the leading /current books on the topic and see if thats referenced.

If you do a search in the news section I'm pretty sure they are some articles there about this.

What I wonder is...if it's the actual Cigarettes that caused the ADD or if the mothers had undiagnosed ADD themselves and were self medicating.

My mother smoked with me and my brother and sister. I've never smoked but my sister does and my brother quit 3 years ago.

I have ADD they don't, I also have very mild learning disabilities mostly with math and so does my brother. My sister has much worst learning disabilities
(shes was called slow) than me and my brother. But my mom has learning disabilities like my sisters and so did my Mom's Mom. My Moms, Mom never smoked...

So my learning disabilities could be hereditary, althought I don't have the same learning disabilities as my mom.....

My learning disabilities could be because my Mom smoked, which might have caused the ADD that caused the learning disabilities and that's why I dont have the same ones as my Mom or sister........ ;)

Just asked my mom on the phone....yep, she smoked while preg with me.

My mother did'nt smoke and actually never did.
