I also took some time to try vo-tech school for nursing, but that wouldn't have had anything to do with a bachelor's...so I only put one for my answer. I might could put 2 later on in the next year when I go back to school. :D Andrew 07-31-04, 02:50 PM I only went to one school to get my undergraduate degree...but, boy...am I lucky I made it! brilliantmoment 08-01-04, 01:38 AM So far (I'm only 20), I have attended 3 semesters at 2 different state universities, a summer at a community college, and currently working on a certification from an allied health program.. after that I will 'attend' a distance learning school to finish my bachelors. So it will be about 5 :) waywardclam 08-01-04, 02:12 AM Well I guess I will answer 2 so far... I did get a diploma from Toronto School of Business, which I will count as a school, but not as a secondary diploma, as it is worthless in the job market. :( irish guy 08-01-04, 12:09 PM I've been to 3....Still need 6 credits for a BA so if i finish it will be 4.:D Gracie 08-02-04, 09:56 AM After three schools and 3 major study changes, I wanted to change my major again (sigh). I was frustrated at having so many interests, I decided to be tested at the Johnson O'Connor Human Engineering Laboratory to help me narrow down my choices. Afterwards I discovered a lot about myself and two of my choices they confirmed for me. Wheezie 08-02-04, 10:13 AM 2 schools. i changed my major about every semester for awhile, until i stumbled into anthropology. i found that i could take physical anthropolgy, cultural anthroplolgy and archaeology classes and they all counted toward the same major! an ADD friend of mine got a geography major for the same reason, she could take physical or social geography classes and they all counted toward the same major. so, that's how two adders solved the problem of getting the required number of credits in our major requirement before getting bored... zaftigangel 08-02-04, 03:37 PM ...I think it's was 7 or 8 different universities before I got the BA, but same one for grad school...gosh! Energizer_Bunny 08-03-04, 03:19 AM Just 2 for me, because I moved from Beaumont to Houston. quietfire 08-15-04, 10:56 PM I'm 49 and trying to finish my senior year! Been to 4 schools....soon 5. I've also changed my major at least 5 times!! Everything is so interesting that I just can't make up my mind!! Conlaw 08-24-04, 08:57 PM I can only remember five. I think that's all, but one may have slipped my mind: Univ. of Ill at C-U, two different community colleges in two different states, UNLV, and I graduated from U of. Ill at Chicago. How many majors? At first, I changed just about every semester. When I returned to school at thirty, I calculated which major would get me out of undergrad and into law school as soon as possible - psychology fit the bill and I was into two years of hyperfocus. Susan rawsteak 09-01-04, 02:42 PM i was academically disqualified from my 1st college, am now taking courses at a community college to boost my GPA so i can try to transfer to SUNY Albany. oh yea, im majoring in computer science exeter 09-08-04, 03:02 AM I finished my BA at the same school, but I took 3 years off after my third year. (Yeah, dumb, I know. Sue me. :P) pinkie 09-13-04, 03:55 AM 3 schools. 1 semester at one, hated it so I left. 1 year at community college to help transfer into the next college. This December it will be 2.5 years at school #3, from which I will graduate. Changed my major 3 times in 6 months, from Dietetics to Marketing to finally Accounting. And now I realize I don't like Accounting, so I'll probably go back to school for Interior Decorating. healthwiz 09-16-04, 11:32 PM It took me 4 schools for the BA. I went a couple semesters at a university. I determined I was "not ready" for college (another ADD misunderstanding of self). I dropped out of school for 2 years and then tried again at a Community College. Before finishing community college 2 yr degree, I left and attended a 4 year college. Before I finished the 4 year college, I got depressed, major ADD symptoms, and dropped out for medical reason. Nine years later, I went to the registrar at the community college and asked if I could transfer in some credits and walk away with a 2 year degree, and the answer was yes, so I finally got a degree! Then I went back to another 4 year college and finished my BA. This all took from 1977 to 1998, so I'd say I probably have the record for length of time it took to finish that BA degree. I am glad I did. By the way, I graduated finally, with honors, "Cum Distinction" out of 2000 graduates. The dean of the college thought it was an amazing thing I had done, to finish the degree, and 3 professors nominated me for the honors, so there you go! It was worth the long road. Now if we can only teach younger ADDers how to shorten the road. Jonathan exeter 09-16-04, 11:43 PM It took me 1 school but 7 years to do it. :) I went for 3 years, got really depressed over a lost love (yeah, I know, it seems a bit pathetic in retrospect), screwed up, parents decided to quit paying for me to go to school, and ended up having to wait til I turned 24 and could qualify for financial aid on my own to go back. I did it though. :) AmyDand 10-09-04, 02:08 PM So Far only 2 but i am only a 1st semester sophmore... I am going to transfer for next fall who knows if i will like that school. I don't even know what i want to do lol inautumnforfree 10-10-04, 12:40 AM 3. senior year of highschool (01)-> i applied to a local university (a). i had decent grades got in. couldnt get into the program i wanted, my gpa was off by .2. didnt go there... applied to a private college (b) in the area my mom went too. did computer information systems for two years. way to many problems with the school. (spent fall 01 and spring 02)(fall 02 and spring 03) there. transfered to another private college for CIS (c). (spent fall 03 and spring 04) there. I was again forced to take more stupid business classes for a CIS major. my interests started to go all over the place, history, pyschology and philosophy. bombed out spring. came home. was dx'd with adhd. one of my roommate's was told me, "**** dude, i thought you knew you had add...). he knew it, i didnt... transfer back to (a). i was doing philosophy this semester, but im already bored with it (too much writing!). i am looking at going into computer science. Difference is that CS requires 4 math classes (2 calc, 2 higher level), and CIS requires 5 BUSINESS based math classes (2 stats, 2 Acct. and a calc) and the godawful normal business classes (something like 30 credits). i know if i take another business class i might murder someone, i dont want to take another seven business classes. I also found out this school has the best, or second best computer program in the state of Michigan. my uncle works as a CIO, and graduated from the same school (bs and ms). therefore, as my father says, 'you have connections'. f_wcomboadhd 10-10-04, 02:40 AM i only went to 2, one currently (seeming to be hanging on ok although i'm procrastinating about a paper due tommorow) and one that i attended on and off for a few years when i was younger..my best friend who is adhd as well has attended TONS of schools! she went to community college in houston, austin, beauty school, then artschool-dropped out-community again in houston, now is going to go to culinary school in nyc and 'says' that she will finish off her art school after that. i'm going to do as many hours as i can at my current school and then transfer... so hopefully by the time i'm finished with my degree i'll have a total of three.. T.Anonymous 10-12-04, 02:02 PM 1 for undergrad, but have attended 3 more thereafter for post bac work. notnow 10-29-04, 04:30 PM Started out at College 1 for a few semesters until grades went south. Took a couple courses at community college 2 and then went back to College 1. Grades suffered again and I ran into financial problems so then I moved to a different town and went to college 3. Things didn't go so well after the first semester there so I sat out a couple semesters and went to college 4 across town. Things got bad there too so I dropped out and moved back to original College 1 for a couple semesters (also took an emt course from community college 2 that I dropped out of). Dropped out again and moved out of state. Moved back a year later and went back to college 3 - got down to business and graduated after about 8 years of in and out of colleges..... top that!!! pembroke 10-30-04, 12:48 AM I have yet to complete a degree. I always get all done except that one last course for the degree..... I have enough cerificates, though. At this point I think I qualify for a masters in life. casper 10-31-04, 08:14 PM I have attended 4, and am thinking about transfering to my 5th! Can u belive it? Is this common for ADDers, or not? I just don't want to start over at yet another college. RUBICONCOWBOY 12-07-04, 08:10 PM 1 College so far but Now I want / need to move to E,Washington---or---N/Idaho cause a 3,2,2garage house here in Sacramento CA is like $340,000.00 and that is just a ok place to live . I wouldnt even have Turkey day here. so 1 college in CA 2 Up North . so a total of 3 colleges by the time I have a BA/BS Degree. vegansoprano 01-25-05, 02:40 PM Oops, read the question wrong. I've been to 3 schools total, but did my undergrad at just one. Spacey Cat 02-05-05, 12:04 AM 2 so far. In my 3rd year right now. Spent the first 2 at UM-TC, grades sucked, depression. Moved back to WI, and have 43 credits as of right now, and am at a 2-year community college, and will transfer to at least one more school for my b.s. If God is willing, I won't have to drop any classes this sem. or next year and I can not only graduate with my b.s., but stay at the same school for my d.v.m. So, after all the rambling, I guess the answer is 2 currently and 1-2 more in the future. rasberryrum29 02-05-05, 01:24 AM Oh man. I attended 3 diffrent schools and have yet to achieve my bachulars. i have an associates degree which i obtained from a business college but that did'nt do a thing for me in the work force. from there, i tried to get into a four year school but that failed to. i ended up having to attend and waste a lot of time at a community college in order to pass the entrance exam to the four year. (CUNY is so full of sh*t now you would not believe) After trying about 4 times to pass the math part i failed and just gave it up. i am now looking into another college and hope this will work out because i 30 years old and just want to get my life together. I tell you having add is hard as hell healthwiz 02-05-05, 09:26 PM rasberry are you taking medication? It can help with college a lot for some people. IT helped me become a much better student, and i did not discover it until i was 37 yrs old....so you can do it, your only 30? No problem! But I hear you, without medication, ADD is alot like being depressed...at least for me it is. Jonathan free2bme 02-05-05, 11:06 PM Tara, obviously you are not alone!! Here's my deal.....Started at Fordham U in New York, love it, contracted Lyme Disease while hiking in the mountains up North....had to go home and spend a year on and off in the hospital while they figured it out. Went to James Madison for a semester..too stuffy...hated it. Went to Virgnia Wesleyan and Old Dominion concurrently...and ended up graduatiing at the top of my class with 3 different majors including a hefty amount of Grad School stuff (thus the ODU part). There is hope!! Just keep your mind and options open. I'd go back in a heartbeat if I could......still dying to figure out chemistry. Happy studying! Deeperblue 02-16-05, 10:52 AM Free, I started an MSW program at Fordham in Tarrytown, NY during the mid 90's but to my frustration dropped out because I was overwhelmed by some life experience stuff. I graduated from Seton Hall in 3 years, though. I think some of that was because i met my husband and since he was a year ahead, well I just wanted to catch up with him. So I did a heavy full time and in the summer blah, blah blah. Still, I was not allowed to walk the same year as my hubby and i did not receive my degree until the following June. At that point I was heavy into baby and marriage and some teaching on the side. Over all, I absolutely loved college. I wish that I could get it together and go back onto the path. but I think that I have an idea in the back of my mind... I hated statistics. unless of course they are statistically significant. ;) |
